Old Hd in a new rig

So I am fixing my buddies computer and I ran into a major brain fart. We are using his old HD( only a couple months old) Everything is up and running. An I went into the BIos and set it up to the best of what I can remember. Cdrom is mainboot and then it should trickle down to the HD.

The issue I have is that I don't know how to approach the next step. Do I reboot with the mobo disc in the cdrom drive, or do I throw in the windows xp disc and boot that up first. Then go ahead and reformat his HD and then install windows.

System specs is a 680i LT SLI rdy board
    Q6600 2.40Ghz
    2gigs consair ram
    8600GTS 512mb
    Sound Blaster card
500Hd (thus why we kept it)

If you are looking to reformat, then you boot up with the windows cd and reformat and install. The mobo drivers are installed when you are at your desktop, then you put in the mobo drivers disk.

XP CD > SATA/RAID drivers during XP install > Mobo drivers once inside Windows.

OK I see what the issue was. When I put in my xp cd is asks to boot from cd the hit any key. The problem is that message is pretty quick. If you don't hit it right away it takes you to wht ever is on the HD. Thus why it wasn't working and confusing the crap out of me. Honestly I don't remember the prompt for it being that quick.

Well right now the xp cd is in. I deleted his old partition and were starting to reformat. I chose the slower install hopefully that wasn't a mistake, But I figured I could eat something while its formating.

So after it formats and installs windows the first thing I do next is install the mobo disc and update those drivers? Then update all drivers and then security for windows. OR should I go from the mobo disc to windows security updates and then drivers?

What I'd usually do is download current drivers on another computer, put them on a USB key or a CD-R, and install those, plus antivirus software, etc. Do that before you ever connect it to the 'net. Depending on what hardware is in it, chances are you'll need to install at least some drivers before the ethernet or whatever will work anyway.

I just went ahead and used the discs, I had an AVG copy so I had the virus program on my system and then with firewall set up I went on the net and got all my windows updates. I then went and got him th elatest drivers for his board and card.

I am having an issue I'd like to address. When I power up the system it gives the MoBo brand name. The next pages displays is that bios pages that checks stuff before it send you to thew windows load screen. The only problem is it doesn't automatically send me there. It ggives me a choice F1 to continue and Del to go to bios.

So its painfully obvious that I need to tweak some things in Bios. I just am not sure what.By the way this message is brought to you by his new rig..

I think that's bypassed by enabling "Quick Boot" or "Fast Boot" in the bios, look for something to that effect.
