Quoting myself since people seem to be ignoring the aspect of "new armor" and this got lost on the bottom of the first page.

I looked hard at the picture, hoping that you were correct, but here's a small problem with that:

If they were introducing new armor, why in the blue hell would they showcase one of their pictures wearing a low level set that's been around since the beginning of the game? I mean seriously, this game has been out forever -- you'd think there'd be countless new pieces of gear, or at the very least, some reskinned centurion's scale, but no. That's the equivalent of promoting a new, exciting line of cars at a dealership while driving around in an 87 Geo Metro.

I mean I know SE has a habit of not putting in any effort, but they could have at least used some Salvage gear to showcase this stuff in. Also, can I please just get ONE effect on ANY weapon in this gear that has a visual? A glowing blade, a trial of fire, some runes that light up slightly on the hilt -- something other than reskin after reskin?

Its funny cos one of them shows lowbie gear and another has WAR AF2..
its also possible that those weapons dont belong in the same grouping...
maybe 2 are from like nyzul.. and the last one is just a AN weapon

Speaking of that, the colors in this game (especially the towns) are actually pretty droll. They could use a bit more vibrant in whatever new zone they're going to come up with -- more things that look as colorful as sea or the jungle or something. Also, give me a jump button so I stop clipping up against every invisible inanimate object that's near a hill or ledge, please.

Absolutely: those who would pull the "I spent 3 years getting ridill and full adaberk and kaiser and blah blah blah.. it should always stay the best because I had to work hard to get it while watching my LS bots do their thing. If they made a new, better set that was easier to get, it would devalue all the effort I put into this game to get this, blah blah."

Seriously, people throw that card out all the time, but I'm happy each time the system is made a little easier for the next guy, because in games with good actual progression (*cough*WoW*cough*), whenever one thing gets made easier, its always a precursor to new content coming out over the horizon that's harder than the current hardest thing out there now. In that perspective, the people that always "rush" to be the first to clear the new content are always the ones that consistently have the hardest battles, and are the ones that always complain about things being made easier for the next crowd.

The ones that take an enjoyable pace through the adventure always find just the right amount of difficulty and reward. Both people progress very happily for a long time, as opposed to FFXI's system where new fights are not necessarily harder, and certainly don't provide better rewards, to the extent that many groups outright forgo them in favor of staying with the content that provides the best rewards (the same kings as forever ago).

But yes, some people would complain. Absolutely.

PS2 limitations, the 'excuse' they use - PS2s HDD isnt even half-full with 3expansions and POL onboard doing something like showing slight visual effects or making better reskins. (Salvage sets looked decent reskinwise, some sets are pretty well-done reskins... some look like ass) Simple en-spell effects that could be toggled on and off would be cool, just recycle the enspell effects from FFX or something - im sure that isnt going melt PS2s and 360s causing firey debris to kill people.

Why cant all enspell effects be 85%-100% proc is a question id like to ask a SE developer, 1/10 hits if your lucky, whats the point of additional effects then.

I'm going to try not to talk about WoW's crazy effects on weapons, but if FFXI needed a place to look, fuck, just look at FFX -- water, fire, ice; all of them had their own graphical effects, and they didn't look half-bad to boot. SE's just fucking lazy -- they'd rather give a weapon a 5% chance to pop a pre-rendered en-effect on a weapon than give it some kind of light aura.

Look at the Flame claymore. The fucking weapon is ON FIRE in the picture, and all you get is a random "poof" on a random hit. That's just laziness.

Yes, it's Voulge style. I just saw one last night. It's black with a silver design on the handle and some silver/gold on the blade itself too. Not a bad looking G.Axe if you ask me.

I also agree with some other posters that banner released is retarded. If there is such a plethora of new weapons and armor, why don't we see the armor and/or NEW skin weapons in the ad? I really hope I get "wowed" by this update, because as of now, I'm feeling quite pessimistic.

I don't play WoW, so the whole "wowed" thing totally went right by me. I only got into the MMO thing because it was in the FF series. It's definitely a neat genre though.

ya guys god wow is so cool let me tell you about it im a troll hunter and i started in babud and met this female gnome named cindy who is a real woman irl and she told me how awesomethe game was at first and im like ya right ffxi all the way this game is dumb and then i kept playing with her and realized how fkn awesome wow is compared to ffxi i mean like WOW its that good like when you dance it actually dances and after i get all this new gear it becomes total crap the next month and then i can finally play by myself since people dont rly like me hahalol but this one time i was killing this rock golem and it linked with to others so i ran and then this noob priest healed me and aggrod then killed him lol it was so funny his name was pooppants and then i went to the auction and realized its impossible to list things correctly unless you use things that arnt included in the game so i got ripped off like 200 gold but its ok cuz everyone buys gold anyways so im never really on a shortage

but ya wow is fkn awesome

OK, so this update note was just old weapon models? Oh my stars and garters, they certainly have never done that before! I mean, using an old model for a new weapon or armor, utterly unheard of! I think that people are falling victim to their own unreasonable expectations. "We want weapons that sparkle out pink glitter and float on a cloud when they aren't in use." I want Galka g-strings with extra bulgy action, but I am not going to get my hopes up that it will ever happen.

As with every update, the grand bulk of the weapons/armor/foods/etc will be worthless, maybe some that are OK to good for low to mid levels, perhaps a few side-grades, and if we all wish upon a star one or two gems that will be good at 75. Expecting anything else is just foolish and setting yourself up for disappointment and heartbreak. Yeah, they could come out with several new sets like they did when Salvage came out, but the point is that you shouldn't hold your breath and expect Ridills when you should be used to getting Bee Spathas.

Theres a difference in something that looks good (and something that they've done before), and something that looks wrong.

And yet you're apparently perfectly fine with this, as you've come to expect the non-quality that SE provides for you with each update. This is why I love players like you -- you've become so used to the drivel that they provide for you that you've actually become tired of other people remarking on the fact that it is drivel. Honestly, who smiles more when they post their side: you getting mad at other people's displeasure, or other people posting their displeasure, and then scampering off to have some fun?

You're not saying anything that some one else hasn't said before, just like us who are unhappy with bits and pieces of the game and how archaic they are aren't saying anything that some one else hasn't said before. We respect your opinion, now offer me and others that same respect towards our opinions.

Every MMO has their flaws with players, but the overall, lasting success is totally dependant on a combination of profits earned, total subscriptions, positive publicity garnered, overall game reviews (FFXI started strong, but the subsequent expansions earned weaker and weaker reviews vs. WoW's extremely high reviews of both the original and expansion), total years lasted in the green, and personal enjoyment on the part of the playerbase. Which perfoms better on the grand majority of those?
