OK, so this update note was just old weapon models? Oh my stars and garters, they certainly have never done that before! I mean, using an old model for a new weapon or armor, utterly unheard of! I think that people are falling victim to their own unreasonable expectations. "We want weapons that sparkle out pink glitter and float on a cloud when they aren't in use." I want Galka g-strings with extra bulgy action, but I am not going to get my hopes up that it will ever happen.

As with every update, the grand bulk of the weapons/armor/foods/etc will be worthless, maybe some that are OK to good for low to mid levels, perhaps a few side-grades, and if we all wish upon a star one or two gems that will be good at 75. Expecting anything else is just foolish and setting yourself up for disappointment and heartbreak. Yeah, they could come out with several new sets like they did when Salvage came out, but the point is that you shouldn't hold your breath and expect Ridills when you should be used to getting Bee Spathas.
I thought whining and complaining was an integral part of the game? Have I been mislead all these years?

I thought that was an integral part of anything you pay for continuously, if it's not continuously improved upon and kept updated and with the times? Have I been mislead all these years?

I'm facing an identity crisis! :rocl:

Damn straight. I always want to say this, but then I feel like whining about whining is just as gay, but come on - with the tiny amount of information in this update, there's absolutely no way anyone can justify bitching about it. If there's one thing that's worse than whining, it's pro-active whining.

"We want weapons that sparkle out pink glitter and float on a cloud when they aren't in use."
That would actually be really cool. Maybe sans the pink.

I want Galka g-strings with extra bulgy action, but I am not going to get my hopes up that it will ever happen.
I'm beginning to see where your sig came from.

The man speaks truth. And my Bee Spatha +1 rocked for more than a few levels as a PLD, for the record.

If you are dead set to wait until the update is released, then wait until the update is released for a good week or two so that people can form proper opinions about it and then come back and listen. Let me repeat that last word, because it is very crucial, listen- L I S T E N. Not fuss, not whine, not bitch, not moan, not complain, not gripe, not bewail, not grumble, not criticize, not henpeck, not denounce, not decry, not hissyfit, but LISTEN. Then come up with an opinion if you want to rejoin or not. And make sure to keep that opinion to yourself.

And yet you're apparently perfectly fine with this, as you've come to expect the non-quality that SE provides for you with each update. This is why I love players like you -- you've become so used to the drivel that they provide for you that you've actually become tired of other people remarking on the fact that it is drivel. Honestly, who smiles more when they post their side: you getting mad at other people's displeasure, or other people posting their displeasure, and then scampering off to have some fun?

You're not saying anything that some one else hasn't said before, just like us who are unhappy with bits and pieces of the game and how archaic they are aren't saying anything that some one else hasn't said before. We respect your opinion, now offer me and others that same respect towards our opinions.
Who said that I am fine with it? But sometimes we have to accept things for what they are because no amount of wishin', and hopin', and thinkin', and prayin' will make them otherwise. I have plenty of fun in the game, but people who can't find fun in FFXI need to look elsewhere instead of whining about not having fun. I am A-OK with people bitching, in fact, I love to bitch too! Hey, I even made several front-page updates bitching about things like king camps. But there is a time and place to bitch, update notes are not the time and place. "Oh wow, look this one is vague", "Oh wow, who cares about quests", save it for extreme stupidity like "We know that the players love the drop rates from Einherjar" or at the end when there is nothing but 10 fish ranking update notes- preemptive bitching accomplishes nothing but to make you angrier.

And no, you aren't saying anything that hasn't been said, and I am sick to death of it. How many times does it bear repeating? Does it say more about Square for releasing the content, or the masochistic tendencies of the people who hate the content yet for some unknown reason stick around to bitch about it time after time after time after time after time? I would love a huge update filled with Adventuring Fellow quests and armors and ENMs and Assaults and what not, but I feel no reason to beat a dead horse about it. That is all that the whiners in this and the other update threads are doing, beating the dead horse. Then kicking it. Then driving over it. Then shooting it. Then going over it with a steamroller. Then backing up with the steamroller and going over it again. Then steamrolling it for a third time. Probably a fourth and fifth time as well.

you consider players, like septimus, sad for accepting things the way they are now.
but there's nothing sadder than someone who quit, moved to another game, but can't let go of the old one.. and spends all their time posting in a internet forum about the previous game.

i don't mind when you throw suggestions out there that are actually good. but the flaming of people who prefer ffxi over WoW is just retarded. just move on with your life.

ts like some sick Pavlovian classal conditioning experiment.
Maybe I could do a thesis on it.

I can't figure out why you damn stupid people like apples, when clearly all that should be sold are oranges! Yet you allow yourself to suffer over each apple you eat. Maybe when you get smart and cool like me, you'll learn to like oranges instead.
This might be relevant if I was the one saying "I'm tired of you WoW-haters whining!" Complaining is a part of life -- I accept it, and embrace it when there is actually something legitimate to complain about. "Sucking it up" for this long is just masochism, heh; unless, of course, you're on one of those "winning teams" that gets every claim. Then the game is magical and legendary!

And my Bee Spatha +1 rocked for more than a few levels as a PLD, for the record.
I loved mine too -- the acc on it was hot (in this game, not compared to other games). I just wanted to drop some enchantments in it so it would last longer.

If you don't like the game now, chances are that one update will not change it. In fact, chance are that nothing will ever change it.
Chances this and chances that. There wasn't a chance in the world I would have went to WoW (I said it myself for years), but lo' and behold, here I am, and loving it. There's always a chance that a new update with some pretty intense content could suck me right back in. I'm holding out for the Hydra Corps information -- a part of the game that has enthralled me since my first visit to a dynamis, years ago. It is possible to enjoy parts of the game, while disliking other features of it, you know. Expecting me to be some "all in or not in at all!" player is foolhardy at best. I like to take what I like, and leave what I don't like for some one else to take.

If you are dead set to wait until the update is released, then wait until the update is released for a good week or two so that people can form proper opinions about it and then come back and listen.
Its quite enjoyable to talk, and most importantly, to share thoughts with like-minded individuals, and to hear the viewpoints of those who don't share my sentiments. Its called conversation -- please forgive me for not knowing that BG allows spam threads, n00b threads, veteran threads, informative threads, non-informative threads, but does not allow for the simple sharing and bouncing of ideas and viewpoints across from one member to another (if those thoughts and ideas are critical of the game).

Yussah, massah'. Yo' be wantin' taht' co'n shu'ked as'whel, massuh'?

I'm not flaming anyone for liking FFXI OR disliking WoW, but (no offense, and certainly no disrespect) I'm not going to roll over to some moderator just because they have a shiny name badge beside their name and some internet-based power. I rather enjoy a lot of septimus's posts, topics, ideas, and rationales, but I can heartily agree to disagree here, and that's what I'm doing.

If its that bad, then slap the "Gigantic Faggot" tag on me, and thus nullify all ideas, contributions, and posts I've ever had on this good forum. This is the best place to post thoughts with other veteran, long-standing members of the FFXI community about a plethora of topics: voicing displeasure with a particular aspect should be one of those topics.

I see Ryko is allowed to do it just fine -- our only difference is that he still plays, while I am waiting for the update to play again -- I guess if I logged in, sat in my MH, and watched my moogle spin while I posted, all would be vilified.

I thought the complaining was supposed to happen before the update, then the rejoicing when the update happens, then finally back to complaining when the update has been dissected of all useful content?

I thought that was simply the cycle of life in FFXI, going down

I'm just following the usual progression of things. There's never (or shouldn't be) outright complaining after they release the bulk of the update in a huge message, as that's when the speculation and elation begins of who got what (kinda like Xmas), and there shouldn't be complaining while everything is being .dat mined, as its fun finding out what gear has what stats.

Normally there isn't even complaining after everything has been mined, unless SE completely forgot to include anything useful, which has never happened -- they've always released at least one goodie or tidbit. This time period is when all the complaining does happen -- long after the previous release, and during the time where SE continues to release those lame-brain little teasers.

So yes, this is the cycle of life -- some are getting tired of it, I guess, but its no more repetitious than SE's policy of actually presenting their content. A lame chunk here, a good chunk there, and then the huge update that gets everyone's eyes all googily.

If you don't play FFXI don't bitch on FFXI forums.

There are plenty of other forums for you to drip in.

Thank you Septimus! I too have become quite annoyed of late at the level of whiny immaturity that has spread to these boards. If you want to wine, you want to bitch, you want to moan, go back to alla where you belong and stop trolling our forums with your blackened tears. If you hate the game that much, the door is right over there. Just don't let real life kick you in the ass on the way out.

Why hello there ToAU Relic Armor [/quote:3jbriwpv]
Ghanraam : <playername>, you might be interested to know that my knowledge of ancient artifacts extends beyond what you can find locally in the ruins of Alzadaal. I was a bit of a traveler as a youth, and one of most memorable journeys was to the Middle Lands during the Crystal War. Perhaps you are familiar with the era.

Ghanraam : The Crystal War produced some of the most powerful weapons and armor for the age, as wars often do. I visited the Middle Lands as a young historian to conduct some independent research, and possibly add some articles to my gallery (ho ho ho!).

Ghanraam : During my travels, I had the opportunity to meet with some of the greatest leaders and bravest heroes of that great war, but most important of all was the equipment they wore into battle. Oh, such intricate patterns on the robes! Such shapely pauldrons and glorious crowns! And, please, don't get me started on the subligaria. I replicated each and every piece of equipment in painstaking detail into my notes. Every thread of fiber, every curve of steel and every band of mail was captured on those pages...

Ghanraam : ...but then disaster struck:

Ghanraam : Moments before I boarded my ship home, I was mugged by a trio of the native beastmen-- a massive turtle, an oversized frog and giant bird! While I escaped unharmed, my notes were shredded in the fray and finally seized from me before the fiends escaped. I tried to recreate the armor from memory during the voyage back to Aht Urhgan, but their designs are basic and hardly match the impeccable accuracy of my original drawings.

Ghanraam : Ah, but they are history now. I hope I haven't bored you. Surely you must be eager to massacre more chariots and boil more frogs, but if you'd like to see my simple sketches you are welcome to have a look whenever you'd like.

    >>Select armor set for listing of pieces

Ghanraam : You would like to see <armor set>? Certainly.

    >Select specific piece for pop-up display of stats

Ghanraam : If I remember correctly, <selected piece> was made of <new and absurdly difficult to obtain material>, 12 <currently inexpensive materials, but value will quickly skyrocket> and a <piece of equipment purchased with AN>.

Ghanraam : Of course, without my original notes no artisan today could craft the actual armor. What a shame...
