    Dynamis Calendar - Alternative

OK, here we go, dynamiscalendar.com seems to be gone for good.

I have created a new calendarsoftware a while ago and released it about 2 weeks ago. I wont go in the reasons for creating a new one because they are obvious. I also would like to ask everyone to keep this thread clean from offtopic spam or discussions about the need of a dynaimscalendar. If your server has a working solution thats great! If your server is dominated by japanese dynamis linkshells which do not care about calendars {that's too bad} I can't help you then, it wont change anything if you state it in here. (yea I do realize that asking for a spam-free thread on this board is useless, I do also realize that saying that, will get quoted and used for exactly that matter, so go on I cant stop you but I asked nicely ^^)

    Anyways, URL is http://dynamis.devs-home.de

It still IS beta, but it allready has alot more features than the old calendar ever had. It blocks other linkshells from booking timeslots already taken by someone. It also supports timezones so you can post in EST but someone who has set his timesetting on CET will see your posts in CET etc.

It is self-written, so kinda everything can be added or changed. And thats what I would like to keep the thread for, discuss about the software. If this thread is getting too much offtopic I will ignore it, in this case everyone who likes the site and has questions/suggestion can find how to contact me on the site itself.

    Re: Dynamis Calendar - Alternative

So you don´t get spammed with the same stuff, I post it here.

Please choose a Login-Name for this Site.
(Can leave 'for this Site' out too, people are not dumb , or just put Login-Name, same for rest of Register Page)
    - just a suggestion -

Anyway here we go. I think a feature would be helpfull that let´s you select the Linkshell Names in the Calender or the Linkshell section and shows all their Dynamis runs in the future for people that are not logged in. (right now only admins can do that). That way people (ls members) do not have to select every day to see when their ls goes. (of course you could post your dynamis schedule in forums too but hey some people are lazy). Helpfull also for someone who wants to go with another Linkshell for Clears, to see when they do the Dynamis he/she needs. Probably best is to be able to click on the Linkshells name on the ".linkshells" menu.

Right now we are limited to book 3.5 hours for RoZ-Dynamis. Some people only farm 3 hours (like Beaucidine sometimes, or Sandy), others might want to reserve 4 hours, because they might enter 20-30 minutes later. (happens sometimes for us too). Would be nice if we can select reservation from 3 to 4 hours. Not nessesary, but maybe it is possible. I like the fact it does reserve the full Dynamis time just by selecting the start time though.

Maybe different colors for each Dynamis-zone? Bastok blue, Sandy red, Jueno brown, Windy green, Beaucidine purple, Xarc, black, Buburimu orange, Valkurm, light green, Quf, light blue, Tavnazia, grey? Don´t know if it will look nice, it does on our current site and maybe you (and others) like it and you might want to add it, depending on people´s reaction.

Beside that I wouldn´t add or change anything else, except the layout which you mentioned already. Nothing too important I posted. Site can work just fine without that too.

Maybe make the site in German and Japanese too. Shouldn´t be too hard I think later. If you need assistance with Japanese I am sure we can find help on the Forum or via JP friends. German is np since your german. French probably then too.

For each Server maybe a small discussion section? Maybe for leaders only? Again not nessesary.

If I forgot my PW, what do I do?
(don´t see anything in the login section)

Bug: If I click logout, the site is not automatically refreshing, only when I click something else like ".events".
(I logged out and can click on add event)

I can help for the French translation, but I don't think I have the tools to edit the pages myself.

Feel free to PM me with the strings you want to translate if you want, I'll reply asap.

OK well, interesting aspect. So far I have not thought about LS member using such site. I kinda like the idea but I would not give it priority right now since there are other things with higher prio first.

About the reservation times, when I started to work on it I was thinking about adding a 30 min buffer on each run... Of course would it be possible to use custom timespans here, but I would like to keep it as simple as possible. Maybe more people can give feedback on this?

Coloring the zones in diffrent colors was a request on the KI boards as well, I also like the idea and will try out how it will look like. Tho, this would be best placed after the site got a new layout (what hopefully will happen soon, but thats not in my hands ;_

As of translating the site, I dont think translating it to german or french would be that necessary. Translating it to japanese on the other side could help greatly in getting japanese linkshells to use it. Since its using parts of the code from our LS website (which is belingual) including the basic database structure that wouldnt be too hard to implement at all. I just dont know anyone with good enough japanese language skills. So if we can find someone here willing to assist, that would be great.

The logout bug is known and on my ToDo list. Edit page for the LS profile is on my list as well, same goes for password receiving. This kinda goes hand in hand with a verfication system that I dont know yet how to implement. The system was designed with a focus for the odin server where I can get in contact with each shell very easy if there are any problems. Since we are talking about cross server now, there need to be a solution for this, any ideas are welcome here.

PS: @bercus, wir müssen uns immer noch treffen, nächsten dienstag lust auf kino?

I'll try to spread more of the word on Odin; as you know, we had a lot using the old dynamiscalendar site.

Whatever happened to the good old days of just scheduling yourself 10 min before someone else? Then you don't need calendars!

Funny you should mention that, dev was involved in several instances of that on Odin. It culminated in an incident where when mischeduling for Dynamis-Beaudecine one week got him with too many members unable to enter a scheduled Dynamis-Xarcabard run, he shifted his scheduled run over a NA Linkshell's scheduled Dynamis-Beaucedine and used his EU timeslot to block them out. Unfortunately, didn't work out quite that well for him when his members were lax in glass security, and I do believe someone from the blocked shell ended up MPK'ing most of dev's shell repeatedly during that run.

The project looks interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it's taken. However, I've heard several people on Odin mention it with caution due to the creator's proclivities.

On the other hand, blocking Dynamis entry repeatedly for other shells on your server will generate a minor modicum of drama, so this does look promising on BG...

Nope, I'm from Odin but 98% of humanity is dump, working as software developer thats one of the very first rules you learn ^^

    Beaucedine and Tavnazia are misspelled.
    Not anymore, thx tho.

Thx Ashira, actually I think we've covered most of the odin linkshells, who is missing right now as far as I can tell is NBK, BBQ, Misfits and ExplorerII. I've talked with the first 3, tho I have no contacts to explorer :/

and I do believe someone from the blocked shell ended up MPK'ing most of dev's shell repeatedly during that run.
actually we made the win and the ppl trying to mpk us went to gm-jail. But thanks for bringing up 3 years old storys

How about we skip the drama and try to all be civil and get participation on the site? So stupid shit happened before; it takes a better person to let it go and move forward than to bring it up every opportunity they get to make someone look bad.

I'm entirely interested in a drama-free Dynamis scheduling solution, and I'm more than willing to work towards that. This was my first, and last time to mention it.

However, considering I said I was interested in a drama-free Dynamis scheduling solution, I considered mentioning this once reasonable. Just so people are fully aware of all factors.

That being said, hopefully this does work better. I'm more in favor of a properly written database solution than a cobbled together approximation through a calendering system of a forum. So the stuff he's got here does look good. I'll have to give it a further look and see what further extensions/changes will seem reasonable to suggest.

    Yes dev is from Odin.

Yes many people of my Linkshell are already always trying to find mistakes in my booking, damn stalkers .
Should be a nice feature for later. Will help making it more public too.

About the reservation times, when I started to work on it I was thinking about adding a 30 min buffer on each run... Of course would it be possible to use custom timespans here, but I would like to keep it as simple as possible. Maybe more people can give feedback on this?
Maybe a little box to mark for additional 30 minutes, which makes the reservation time 4 hours.
I can asure you right now, many Linkshells book Dynamis for 4 hours.

As of translating the site, I dont think translating it to german or french would be that necessary. Translating it to japanese on the other side could help greatly in getting japanese linkshells to use it. Well there are 2 users on the BG Forum I would try to ask about it. Elmer the Pointy (translated my last Interview) and Lyramion. Both should be able to translate or help translating.

About the verification thing (Probably best to use E-Mail, but I don´t know which risks come with that) I will ask our programmer of our website, maybe he knows what to do.

I'd suggest not using that one since you may get visitors who don't know what Dynamis, let alone FFXi is. :rocl:
