How often is Nami's backstory mentioned for someone if you ONLY read the manga? I didn't like it in the chapter either, but I watched the anime until Thriller Bark or so, and they had a flashback (maybe two) to retell backstories and I've recently been rewatching the anime, etc. so I know I've seen the story more than most people.

I mean, OP came out 13 years ago and Nami's story was most likely in the first year, maybe second. That's a long time ago...

I think all the Arlong references were worth it after the big thing mentioned from Sabaody in this chapter. That's pretty win from Oda.

I think my disappointment with the flashback is that it comes too soon after Oda doing it properly with Buggy and the Impel Down escapees learning that a) the fuck Buggy fought with the son of Dragon b) the fuck Buggy served on Gol D Roger's crew c) the fuck Buggy is friends with Shanks JESUS CHRIST BUGGY IS AWESOME.

That was by far my favorite thread weaving in and out of the Impel Down -> Marinford arc and it was outstanding storytelling that didn't get bogged down in flashbacks. Meanwhile we get 'Nami This Is Your Life' told in xeroxed panels. The Arlong/Sabaody Park bits were nice but that was all that was required I think.

Everything with Buggy in ID, and afterwards, was gold. I also like how each character in ID didn't need a big flashback. This was mr3, we'll see him for the next year~ or so but all we got is a brief description of his powers. Same with buggy, croc, etc.

I dunno, I'd think Jinbei is going to be too busy doing shit elsewhere to join. But I guess they could make it so Jinbei believes the only way the world will get fixing is him joining the crew or some such thing.

Think the whole point of Nami's flashback is to balance out the other story. Had there only been the arlong/ shaobody part our sentiments would have leaned towards the fishmen. A simple comment on Nami would not have caused any emotional reaction, it would have simply reminded us of what happened.

The whole point of the balancing out of our emotions is for us to see how there is two sides to the story about to be told, Tiger was both extreme and racist in his ways but also a hero and idol to the fishmen.

The Buggy thing wasn't for our sake but for plot sake of having the prisonors follow him, the Nami flashback was for our sake.

I liked this chapter and I honestly don't mind the flashback cause it's interesting to hear the story of fishman and how things came to be, hell it might all tie into the blank century somehow too if he plans it that far ahead. I honestly cannot see jinbe joining the team just because I don't think his personality would mesh with the rest of them. While serious, zoro is also an idiot at same time so it's cool, while jinbe is just straight up serious and he's not dumb either. If he joins I think he would just be too powerful to follow in the voice of reason side; like how shit with nami and usopp being voice of reason to remind you of shit but they still go with luffy and doing their shit, just can't see it happening with jinbe lol.

My god that was hard to read. We didn't complain about the past of the sun pirates, we just didn't like the panels of nami backstory since it wasnt needed in this chapter.

Jinbei is joining the strawhats there no other reason for him to stay once this arc is over

I thought that was just a fast-forward of the story they were telling Jinbei. Regardless, it was only 2 pages, so it didn't bother me too much. It wasn't needed for the reader's sake I guess, but it could be a kind of disconnect if Jinbei just suddenly acted like he knew everything that happened.

Animation is cool, but song sucks. They should really just stick to We Are.

Song fits the animation. I really like it (not really like the song specifically, but the overall OP). Only thing it should've done is have Laboon in the Brook section of the flashback part.
