Fishmen island and Caesar arc were pretty disappointing imo, but I'm glad it's picked up again, I'm enjoying Dressrosa.

I liked last arc, fishman island had too much fishman flashback bullshit I agree.

I think the biggest problem with the Fishman arc and to a much lesser degree Punk Hazard, was Oda's thing about making the big bad look like as big a dick as possible.

It's worked for him with Arlong, Crocodile, and CP9 especially well, but I think he was having trouble scaling it up to match the current power/societal levels the Straw Hats have now. Arlong fucking over Nami was simple, cold blooded, and you saw the emotional effects of it right away and were ready for Arlong to get his ass beat. The Fishman stuff was long, convoluted, and Oda hurt it himself by making Hody more of a wannabe villain than anything else. So it was hard to care about the whole fishman plight when the main villain just wasn't that interesting. People just wanted to see the Strawhats use their training and Oda kept pushing that back with flashbacks, it made for an annoying arc overall.

Doflamingo and Caesar are just naturally better assholes than Hody could hope to be, and the Mera Mera no Mi alone is already a far more interesting stake than almost everything that happened in Fishman Island.

Agreed with all of this. I think this island is pretty top notch so far. This weeks chapter was ok despite shitty scanlation.

I'm still willing to bet going into the water will wash off the "art" changes.

That's a pretty good analysis and I agree with it. There were a lot of ways Fishmen Island could have been better. But considering what we got out of it, the only chapters I even remember liking were the ones when the SH crew started going apeshit on all the fodder showing off their new techniques. The moment Luffy took out 50,000 of them with just his Haki, glorious.

The way I see Punk Hazard is that it's like Water 7. A setup for a bigger storyline. Water 7 led into Enes Lobby which was fucking amazing. And so far Dressrosa has been really entertaining for me at least. PH again had it's moments, but just hasn't been too great. It does pale in comparison to Water 7 though, despite me comparing the two as setup arcs. I mean, Water 7 had the Merry Go story, and Luffy vs Ussop, and Robin being all secretive and then the beginning of Aqua Laguna and Luffy and Zoro being stuck in buildings after being beat, the whole thing with Franky and his master (I forget his name, but that Fishmen who ironically wasn't boring lol) and the blueprints for the giant weapon, and then the train ride to Enes Lobby as well as I'm sure a buncha other stuff I'm forgetting...

Yeah okay, my earlier comparison was terrible. Both Water 7 and Enes Lobby were both pretty fucking awesome. And Punk Hazard doesn't compare at all lol

Were you guys reading week by week then? I recently read through the entire manga, and the last 2 arcs seemed much better when I didn't have to wait a week for another boring flashback. I mean, it wasn't amazing like some earlier arcs, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was on my first read through.

Arlong, Alabasta, Skypea, Thriller Bark, Water7+Eneis Lobby, Impel Down and Marinford were just great imo, Fishman and Punk Hazzard felt pretty uninteresting in comparison and I suppose Havcoxx assessment is fairly valid. They did feel more like prologue to the bigger saga which revolves around Doflamingo(finally)and that I believe will continue to become pretty epic.

lol, This one came out like 4 days early from a chinese translator. I mean, non Stream sites can suck sometimes, but this week was pretty ridiculous.

Well he was nicknamed Garp the Fist. I assumed there was a really good reason for this. And yeah looking back at least the flashback was quick. But man was mangastream just filled with random fucking pages this week.. actual chapter was really short.
