Edit: Reading up on the wiki and that explains some things. I just wonder if the typical shonen trope of "flashback = death" plot line is going here with Donflamingo. We're learning a bit too much about his history for him to make it out of this alive.

After countless breaks, "fake" fights, we finally see the real fight and this happens. I like this and all but.. we even get flashbacks during the flashback. What the hell? My problem with this entire thing is the timing.

I want to guess that the flashbacks will end in 2 more chapters. I liked them, and while I think they're necessary to telling the story, I really want to see Luffy kick some ass.

Also, does Law having the D (lol) make him a cousin of Luffy's? =/

The D aren't actually related. To me it's more like.. when someone with D dies, they get reborn somewhere else? Kind of like Devil Fruit. That's how I imagine it, at least.

D is shaping up to be a sort of meta-power given to those marked by it. Roger could read poneglyphs. Teach can eat more than one devil fruit. Law can cheat death. Luffy can sway men (and beasts!) to form an army behind him without trying. Such powers can certainly be interpreted to be going against the very rules of god. I don't think the powers themselves are hereditary, but that they are only gifted to unique people born during a generation.

I dunno, given the people who have had a "D" in their name I can't help but think it's more a lineage thing rather then a reincarnation/power type of trait. I'm sure it's all connected to the Void Century and the treasure of One Piece and etc, etc. The world Government and the Celestial Dragon's are all connected to the Void Century, and given that this most recent chapter drew parallels to the people who bare the name "D" and how they're here to overthrow the gods (aka Celestial Dragons), I can't help but think it's more history/void century related than anything else

Ace and his mom also have D but I still feel its some sort of reincarnation thing. Luffy is talked about as having Rogers will very often, etc. It might be heritage but from when law talked about his D (oh my) it didnt seem like his parents had it and wanted to hide that he had it.

The D. seems to be passed on in the family. Saul D. Jaguar said everyone in his family had it.

I would guess that those who have it are the descendants of the people of Raftel.

I'm not sure reading the poneglyphs is a D thing. Robin isn't a D, and she can read them.

As for dual-wielding fruits, it could simply be because people with the name D are more resilient and powerful, and are therefor strong enough to not get ripped apart from the devil fruits "fighting each other". It could also be something as simple as certain devil fruits being more compatible with each other. It could also simply be something unique to the yami yami no mi. Perhaps one of the special powers of it is to absorb other fruits - it being gravity and all - and could theoretically create a singularity in thatch himself to hold the other powers. He did, after all, seek out the yami yami no mi specifically.
