It's true for Thriller Bark kinda (we had to meet that Shikibukai sooner or later), but the plot twist near the end was still interesting. Wasn't the best arc tho.

Skytopeia was also useless to some extent, but there was some decent character development, and it helped show why Luffy and Gold Roger are above the "normal" pirate.

Other arcs flow well with the story most of the time, and they are solid on their own.

They have never shown Jinbei before. He was one of the first Shichibukai mentioned (back during arlong days), but the last one actually shown. A few chapters ago they said they imprisoned him because he started rampaging and not cooperating with the world government.

Throwing him in with Ace is just fucking weird though. Maybe there's not alot of room down there?

They don't seem to place much stock in solitary confinement in Impel Down so far. It seems the tortures are enough such that watching one suffer is enough to keep the rest in line, witness the prisoners fleeing back to their cells in level 2 even after they were unlocked.

I thought we'd be getting 3-4 months of filler, I was surprised it was only 3 weeks. The sad thing is that most OP filler isn't truly horrendous unlike some other shonen jump shows. I mean that Brooke episode they just did was actually pretty good.

So I went to visit my brother a few weeks ago, and we went to a Japanese store. Lo and behold, in the candy section, there was a Luffy figurine! For $5.00 >_>;. I've seen them before too, and at conventions they range from $20~30 per ;x. I'll take a pic of it, it looks really badass.
