NAAAAAKAAAAAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!
That's why I think, when Luffy & crew get to the end of the line, they're going to find Gol D. Roger's crew (maybe their remains), or a poneglyph telling the story of Roger's voyage and how they all became nakamas. Something that shows nakamas are the most valuable treasure.
Yeah it's gotta be something we won't expect or it'll be lame as hell.
I heard when Oda started working on OP he knew what the 'one piece' would be, so I think he's got some good plans for the end of OP already.
Don't tell me you honestly think "One Piece" is a real treasure? A big pile of gold? Or maybe whatever creates the devil fruits? While I can see there being treasure on the island, I really think he was being metaphorical about it. I think his crew made a stand on the island for something they believed in, and that's what he meant by "One Piece. " I'm not saying the Straw Hats are going to get to the island and see the reference to nakamas being "One Piece" and turn around and go home enlightened. There will probably being many large fights over what is left on the island, probably destroying whatever it is in the process (maybe the whole island) and the Straw Hats will escape victorious on the Sunny. Nami will be pissing and moaning at the loss of whatever it was, but Luffy will say something adamantly insightful about how everyone is more valuable than some treasure while eating a large dinner. Then Luffy's curiousity gets piqued about something random and they continue on with their adventures.
My bet is that One Piece has something to do with an artifact that will be able to tear the world government apart. But something about the world made it so a lone band of pirates, no matter how famous at the time, couldn't use it to do so. But if a larger portion of the world was a pirate and the world government was split dealing with all the pirates OP could take it down.
I think Roger turning himself in and everything was just some big play to get rid of the World Government, it probably has to do with the missing century.
If you want my honest opinion, I can't shake the fact that Luffy will go down the exact same path as Gold Rogers. We ALL know all the big dogs see Luffy as the next Pirate King, and I won't be a bit surprised to see the manga ending with Luffy being executed. I really don't want this though... I'd seriously cry if they killed anyone from Luffy's crew :/.
I see where you're coming from, but I don't see it happening. Gol D. Roger went and was learning about the history of the world, the missing century, formation of the world government, etc. He also turned himself in. There had to be a reason, he had some plan made so that his actions would cause that information to become widespread and get rid of the "evil" world government. Luffy is going to be the one to complete that plan, knowingly or not. I think that's a safe assumption, just not sure exactly what that plan entails other than having something to do with overthrowing the world government, lol.
plus roger was sick for the entire journey. even if he had the greatest treasure of all time he couldn't take it with him to the grave and enjoy it in the afterlife. Instead he decided to fuck with the government by restarting the age of pirates. Screw dying slowly. He just spent who knows how long enjoying every last moment on earth being a pirate and sailing the grand line. To hell with laying down and waiting to die. Time to flip the bird one last time spectacularly.
