OP works on a need to know basis. Even though Robin pretty much knows everything (Guarentee she knows if Roger had a power, same with WB, top marines etc), she's just not going to spend a whole chapter talking to us about everything.

His grandpa would have been able to give him a lot more details about the new world. Many people he met in Alabasta were probably informed to some extent about the situation. Aokiji? The lighthouse dude? ..etc They act like the world is a huge mystery ahead, but they know a damn lot about it, and have no reason to hide that information.

Also, there is thing like the shikibukai that were suposed to be unstoppable. However, the more you progress, the more you realize they werent that strong, and many goverment official would have been able to stop them.

I seriously doubt that uffy's grandfather would be a source of info about pirates for one reason. Luffy wanted to become a pirate. Telling luffy about a superspecialawesome group of pirates with a cool name like nova to boot would be a stupid thing to do. He wanted Luffy to NOT be a pirate. telling him about great pirates would only encourage Luffy.

The mystery part seems to be more of a rite of passage thing. They already had a chance to find out everything when usopp decided to do the smart thing and ask what was at the end. Luffy refused to hear the answer because it would ruin the fun of everything which gives a "valid" excuse for everyone that didn't explain it all off the bat. The entire journey through the grand line seems like a sort of test as well. If the journey was easy or you knew what was coming things would be too easy and the artificial difficulty helps thin out the weak and the strong with each step increasing their rank(bounty). If you had two pirates that made it to the end and you had to pick one which is better? the one who got there first or the second one that had the maps and prior knowlege? You might say the first but that technically isn't true since you don't know the true strength of the second because the second got the easy route.

He is the one who introduced the 4 pirate king in the first place, but he was mysterious about them. If anything, it will have the opposite effect on Luffy.

Which chapter. ill have to see how he introduced them. Was it more of a warning to prevent luffy from being stupid enough to fight one(like that's gonna work) while only giving such info reluctantly or was it a bout of random stupidity? Both seem in line with the current character. There's a third option in which he only talked about em to advance the plot. I'm sure I can makeup tons of excuses. I want to know the full context of when the info was given before i makeup any wild theories as an excuse.

Thing like this shouldnt have been a mystery since the beginning imo. It's just kinda weird they are introduced after 500 chapters.

Like I said earlier, you can explain everything case by case, but as a whole, it just feels like they should have known about this earlier.

You listed mostly Marines, why would high level marines tell some new upstart pirate the details about the entire world?

Do they have a reason to reveal that information?

With the exception of irrational bragging rights to pad one's low self-esteem, people generally don't break into lengthy exposition without a good or immediate reason, or do they?

There was no reason to introduce them earlier. What the hell is knowing about the Yonkou going to do when the crew is still in the East Blue or GL? Hell, Luffy still hasn't met any one of them, barring Shanks before he became one.

Same thing with Supernovas. We found out about them last year or so, but theres like 95% chance they'll play a huge role in the New World due to how much emphasis Oda places on them.

Because they already gave luffy this kind of informations, except they gave him in a cryptic way?

You have to remember that you're reading shonen manga so expecting more complexity and depth than the simplest of narrated foreshadowing is setting yourself up for disappointment no matter where the story takes you in the end. Ultimately everything that comes is simply an excuse to keep throwing larger and more difficult bad guys in front of the protagonist without resorting to DBZ's 'well just turn your hair yellow and get huge' answer to why bad guys are getting stronger.

"I'm not saying it's an horrible thing either. Introducing bigger and badder characters is the norm in shonen.."

That's what I wrote 3 posts ago. I know it's a shonen, and I never said I cared to the point it become a big issue. However, it's not perfect either. The sentiment of "mystery" that came from grand line, and now the 2nd half of grand line does feel artificial to some extent when you look back at how thing really work versus what was announced.

The way One Piece story structure works is that it focus's on the current story/situation/location with a moderately healthy dose of foreshadowing thrown in.

What you're asking for is simplified IMO as 'over doing it' in the case of foreshadowing. If Oda started trying to explain things that where going to happen 200 chapters from now.... lets say just before the crew got separated; who the hell would understand what was going on? You'd think that something really big was going to happen next, not 3 years from now. OP doesn't break from the main story to show a side story unless the 2 are about to become intertwined.

Explaining everything for a new situation has problems: setting up a new location, new characters and new background. Its much easier to gradually introduce these things as the focus of the main characters than to abruptly shift to them in the middle of another story with none of the primary cast around (Oceans Unmoving from Sluggy Freelance is a perfect example of this and its 'wtf' effects on the audience)

Am I saying I wouldn't like it if, say once every few months they had an chapter that used past characters to foreshadow new events that might not happen for a while? They almost do this on the anime but instead of foreshadowing its recap QQ.

TL;DR : When you foreshadow something to far in advance you're just going to have to repeat yourself again later, and its going to break the pace of the current story.

    Kinda spoilerish.
    Spoiler: show
I was watching the anime to catch up from where I left off and just remembered something. Rayleigh uses his Haki in order to hit Kizaru, right? I think it's obvious how Luffy will win against Magellan. What with already having some minor, on the sub-conscious level, control of his haki.

It is not explicitly said but I assume so.

Also I think that is exactly what will happen. From the introduction of Haki I have thought that it was going to be how Luffy would be able to fight any given logia type (though Magellan isn't technically a logia but it is the same idea).
