I think it just maybe that the anime seems to do about 2 manga chapters per episode and tends to be consistent with this method. So with these two chapters being relatively small they had to waste some time to have a full lengthed episode.

I don't mind these breaks and small fillers because the pace of the story in the manga going smoothly comparing with Bleach/Naruto and we don't have to deal with 20+ fillers episodes like we do in Bleach/Naruto so we can't complain.

This. For example bleach just started a 30 ep filler arc, and naruto just came off from an 18 ep filler arc....

The only shit that was significant filler in that episode was that stupid (possibly parody?) reaction from the Amazonian chicks at him being a man. That "Kung Pow-esque" reaction that had the little sound effect.

I wouldn't mind 6 min OP, 4 mins gold roger intro, 6mins recap etc. if the actual episode won't drag things out (although it'd be short, but idc about that). Even fillers would be welcome if they're really that close to manga, then I could just skip them and continue watching when it's back to canon.

But if these chapters are short in the manga and this is just a temporal issue then whatever .

It should get back to a better pace soon. But generally any chapters in a manga used primarily to show new scenery translates poorly to anime because a few panels of a jungle in a manga is only a second in an anime. Fights are coming shortly and that usually lets the anime spend extra time on that.

Yeah I'm surprised they still do the damn Gol D Roger opening as well, but then again Bleach still does the intro with Rukia and how he got his shinigami powers so I guess people who watch Shonen's must have the memory of a damn goldfish. : p

Oh god I'd never rewatch the anime. Don't get me wrong, I like the anime and I reread the manga every so often but.. the anime is just way slower sometimes. I could never do it.

There are certain parts off the anime that I could watch again, like the Water 7/Enies Lobby arc, but trying to watch the whole thing again would be rough.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't do it either; it's just that my buddy's watching it for the first time and I have all the episodes so as long as he's watching them at my place, I'm watching them too.

Side note: I had forgotten how fucking harsh Robin is, especially in the beginning. The big dude in Skypeia that destroys all ruins while attacking her...she doesn't fuck around; just takes him out.

It doesn't mean they aren't related. It just makes it very probable that they aren't brothers. I can see Rogers entrusting Garp with Ace because Garp could be Rogers brother. That would make Ace and Luffy second cousins. Also might explain why Garp wanted Luffy to be a marine instead of a pirate like that side of the family, or a revolutionary like his dad.
