I don't like it either. They spend like two years hyping up the Ace rescue, and he gets trolled by a marine and impaled? Ace is supposed to be (and fucking is, goddammit) cooler than that.

It's not just a marine it's an admiral, and the one with absolute justice at that. Personally I wouldn't mind Ace getting killed here. His rescue wasn't hyped up for two years. It was this eventual war that was hyped and it needs some consequences. The arm through the stomach looked plain painful, I really believe Ace could end up dead even though Oda never kills.

One piece until now hasnt killed a single character in the present, not even the "evil" one. If Whitebeard is the first one to die...I seriously doubt they would also kill Aces.

Beside, if Aces die, it would make WB sacrifice worthless...I just don't see it happenening.

You forget that whatever happens to Ace + WB was planned from day 1 from Oda. If someone was gonna die it was going to be one of the main characters to force the story along.

I think Ace's "death" was the only possible choice, as well as WB's one. The concern here is not to kill them or not, more about putting them off stage. Oda can never kill anyone but characters can indeed step out.
WB role is coming to a proper conclusion with one of the oldest pirate facing up with his formest enemy. Now the plot can move toward the "dark side" of the world government since WB is basically wiping out its standard forces.

Aces? Him making his own crew would be, imho, unnecessary. We all know Luffy's crew is gonna be the star so there would be no point in making another secondary crew with Ace and other fellas.
Also, Ace joining Luffy's crew always seemed unlikely to happen.
So killing him now would give Luffy a lot more motives and even putting him into an angrier state of mind, maybe letting Dragon getting closer to him.

Ok I don't understand all of you guys Q_Q over the last page...Ace is a Logia so I don't see how he going to die with that punch lol and killing him off that quickly is not Oda style..but I do agree WB going to take down the island along with him

Because he just aid he can beat fire type logia and his vivre card pretty much vanished instantly. I mean he did get punched straight through the chest. >.>

I agree I don't see what role Ace could possibly play if he survives.He already gave up his drive to become king, and Luffy just got Law and Kid as his friendly rivals which seem to be his versions of wb and shiki. Him protecting the islands wb protected is also unnecessary as they're probably going to be used in creating conflict for the next part of the story with everyone fighting over them.

I don't see dragon showing up now, there's no need for it yet. Also there's still BB who promised to do something.

Its fairly obvious how the rest of one piece will play out:

Enel will descend onto the Earth once more after being bored of the moon. After doing so he looks below to find Marinford and the current battle taking place. Enel decides that this island is where he'll make an enemy of the world and completely destroy everything on it. With all the combatants on Marinford gazing upon the airship miles above, an enormous lightning descends in an instant and kills everyone.

Because Luffy was not completely immune to such a great attack from Enel he is knocked unconscious. After a week has passed Luffy wakes up to a ruined world ruled by Enel and he goes out to search for his companions whom he was seperated from in an attempt to launch a counterattack against Enel.

(I couldn't sleep so it came across to me that Enel could be Kefka to a certain degree.....)

High class fights are governed by Haki, which allow even non-Logia types to fight Logia types as if they're solid. As well, this guy is a counter Logia of Ace's. There are times where similar Logia types can fight to a standstill against one another (Smoke vs Fire and such) but with both a counter-type and extreme Haki (because as an Admiral it's possible he is more powerful than Ace...) the attack could be made on Ace as if he was solid.
