How could you see it coming? It was impossible to forsee O_o One Piece -ALWAYS- has happy endings, and their were 2 whole arcs dedicated just to free Ace. What I, and I think most people saw coming was WB dying to free ace, not this.

People just like to take credit for everything!

Personally, I didnt see it comming at all, and I still find it hard to believe Oda actually killed someone like this. That said, I'm all for it since I've been asking for a death since I joined this thread (it was the first argument I had here iirc).

It's especially funny, because 2-3 weeks ago, I complained about Whitebeard's death not being satisfying for a "first death". It was foreshadowed, but it never felt needed to me. Now, with Ace dying, I can totally see it, and I have very little to say against this arc (aside the long long fight before)


However, I feel that Oda could have done a little more with Ace's character before killing him off. He never got to talk with his "grandpa",and we never got to see him do something as gold roger's son (even if WB is his "father").

I think we will get a time skip, as Oda did say that we're seeing the last of Luffy the 17 year old. But I'm sure we'll skip the emo period in the time skip, and luffy will go right back to being the way he was.

Yeah, that's a possibility. I really want Luffy to laugh after all this, and show us he will never change. I don't want him to see him become less carefree because he is afraid to lose people.

I will trust oda on this, but I still think it's a risky move he just made.

No duh that no one could have predicted back at the beginning of the Arcs but ya Ace's death wasn't something that ever made me think, oh that'll never happen. Oda has never killed anyone which is also why this death has some real impact.

I was wondering about that too. I think he gets cut, but is then able to reconstruct himself because of his Logia devil fruit powers.

So the murder of Ace was broadcast around the world right? Does this put the sympathy of the world on Luffy's side and expose the Marines/World Government despite their efforts to the contrary? Pretty sure this event is exactly why Sengoku wanted the coverage suppressed in the first place.

We were just shown how many people despised Ace because of being Gol D's son, I doubt people are sympathetic to him (other than pirates). The whole point of this was the execution it's not like the the WG was hiding the fact that it was an execution.

About the haki slash, maybe he did feel it. It just didn't cut him, being able to reform, but his body might have felt it.

Why is Garp so pissed off in the last manga. He was about to execute him a few chapter ago? I can kinda understand why (since he thought for a second he would be fine), but it's kinda weird.


Anyway, am i the only one who is more interested to see with WB and Garp's reaction in the next manga than Luffy?

Garp Obviously faked being knocked down by Luffy so that Ace could be saved and he wouldn't have to fight. It was kinda obvious that he was taking a dive imo back when it first happened simply due to Garp's general power and rank that we've seen hinted at previously.

Nope, we already pretty much know what luffy's reaction will be. (Que epic Simon speech from Gurren Lagann)

Wasn't that after Ace said he wanted to live as well? Ace had also committed to not wanting to be rescued to simple stop the bloodshed and the imbalance the war would have caused in the world. Being that Garp started to see Ace wanting to live and that he had found joy in his life despite his roots that may have changed his thoughts. I'm pulling at strings tbh I'm not even sure the time line in the fight fits to well into that.

Either way though what Akainu did wasn't honorable at all that's another reason Garp might be very upset. Even if Garp hated pirates he still had respect for his opponents and gave them a fighting chance from what we've seen.

Garp was obviously conflicted about the execution. Him and Akainu are on opposite spectrums when it comes to their beliefs on what the marines should be like. Had the executioners killed Ace Garp would have thought of it as his fault, for not doing anything, insted we now have Akainu kiling him. The executioners were fodder it's not like Garp could blame them for doing their job, he can though blame Akainu. Especially considering Garp had just allowed Luffy to save Ace. Garp must have already disliked Akainu and would have felt anger towards someone, himself, the moment Ace was killed, now we have the anger transferred to Akainu.
