I guess people just want to see a DBZ effect, where watching a friend die somehow rejuvenates a body to not simply full power, but far beyond.
I don't want to see Luffy fight. His role in this for now is over. It would make absolutely no sense for him to revive himself and fight right now. He's pushed his body past its limits - think of just how much fighting he has done in the past 24 hours. If he somehow willed himself to fight now, all that lore about how Ivan's techniques could shorten a lifespan would be moot.
This is Whitebeard's show now. When Luffy comes to, he will be a changed man, and I look forward to seeing the direction of his growth. This is the most excitement I've had about the series ever - I can't wait to see which way the happy-go-lucky Luffy swings now that he's seen some -real- personal tragedy.
He won't be some Sasuke idiot, but I want to see if he becomes more like Crocodile, who had his same demeanor and aspirations younger, or if he endures and continues to promote "his nindou" of sorts. Everyone's been commenting on how Luffy hasn't seen enough experience out at sea, and that his naivety will wear off -- its time to see if they were right.
