Re: Battle System Improvements (02/22/2008) - (Nothing good)

Battle music: I wanted it ages ago, but now I play with music off, I guess I couldn't care less.

Macro porting, I think is a nice tweek, I once played on PS2 FFXI(I play on PC usually), and I had to spend 1h or so trying to recall how my macros were set and setting them up... I guess it's nothing for the windower-macro/PC-onry players, but it is nonetheless a nice tweek for those who play on more than just PC/PS2/360.

It's more "Battle System Tweeks" than "improvements". Fixing the buff/debuff lock when engage/disengaging, fixing the "you can't hit this monster that is chewing on your right leg because you just killed a monster." and etc would be "Improvements", the things mentioned are just "tweeks".

Is it me, or does this teaser just sound like what they usually release in the Updates notes when the patch has arrived? Are they running out of things to make teasers with, or are they just gonna surprise us with an oh-em-ef-gee update when it comes??

In any case, our next teaser will most likely be about how many new words they added to the Auto-Translate function?

Re: Battle System Improvements (02/22/2008) - (Nothing good)

Finally I can hear the awesome CoP Battle music in Sea on my BLM

Macro storage doesnt apply to me since i have only one compy w/ FFXI... but its nice to have just in case I dont use windower macros (or the page switching) since i havent found myself switching a lot of gear... yet.... but even then i guess i'll use the page switching: Hit macro->Switchgear->hit same macro-> WS not that hard

Mob name color was needed in the beginning.. now if only <bt> worked (although i like /assist <name> better =/)

The only other thing i think is a necessary battle change is the "additional effect:Terror" its gets very annoying when im engaging a mob and i get cured =/ or trying to run away from a spellcasting mob that aggroed me >.>

oh.. and one campaign related fix...... NPCs should be colored Light-green or something(not a big issue) and NOT be targetable by "F8" or nukes =/

all-in-all SE could have don better but atleast they did something =/ something that the playerbase wanted on top of that

    Oh, wait.

It's bad enough as is using X360 with no windower functions (or PS2 with no windower functions and HUGE F*CKING MENUS THAT TAKE UP 80% OF THE SCREEN). Having immediate access to my standard macros/markers (without spending 2 hours typing them in by hand) at least makes it playable.

Now it'll take me ~10min to go through and edit my macros to remove all windower macro calls (using halfassed gearswaps instead) instead of hours to rewrite from scratch.

Re: Battle System Improvements (02/22/2008) - (Nothing good)

I honest to god would love for this to be real.
You, me and have of the active playerbase and that would be all while keeping the labor on SEs side to implement this to the utmost minimum.

BRP, SE did announce the expanded macro space - people just thought it meant more actual lines when SE meant more macro palletes.

Calling chocobos in other areas would be well-received just because anything that allows faster legit travel is welcomed by most everyone. But as for Fellowship and Brenner, I mean there might be a few people who would be excited about it, but chances are this thread would be three times as large full of people bitching about how little they care about it. I'm remembering fellowship updates from back when it was actually newish content, and stuff like Fish Ranking here.
Im trying to convey that while it wouldnt make everyone happy that it'd start to loosen the deathly grip this game has on content that isnt cleaned up for a sum of years. Chocobo Raising tweaks would validate raising one, which in some cases would mean more people using the items associated with raising which means a revival of something otherwise a 'useless' novelty. Expanded NPCs would mean more solo capability in more zones which means you can skillup outside the usual places, the NPC system has enough limitations to prevent abuse.

People will always bitch, the main issue is trying to express to the playerbase that you know what they want and leaving the 'creative ideas' like this announcement to a minor patch. Give people a reason to do the old and abandoned content, slap some new items on poor souls like Jormugand, Hydra, the HNMs in ToAU dungeons, add some new items for doing Conquest-related activities, flesh out the PvP a little, just adjust drop-rates in Einherjar towards being reasonable, switch a few monsters around in zones to space out the merit community, add like 3 KS99-ish ISNMs for those imperial RMT ingots and other sidegraded items, change around those "In Besieged:" items (the NM drops across toAU) to something a bit more reasonable like "In Aht Urhgan" or "Sanction:"..... if SE did half the amount of housecleaning that could be done then the 'waits' for new content would be moot, people could just do the new 'upgraded' old content to pass the time. You will never make everyone happy, but it'd help to flesh out the game more without SE actually doing much.

People will always like content so long as it gives something as a reward for time invested, the item doesnt have to be the new best shit but for crying out loud why do they expect things that offer 'nothing' but a timesink to be fun to the majority? It'll just end up dead content.

Exactly. SE never said more lines.

The fact that they never release info on the Friday and that it was something miniscle like this can have a positive, people: imagine if next week is indeed the penultimate week before the update and this gem was one of the last two major announcements for the patch.

I do seem to recall SE specifically mentioning that they were increasing the number of macro lines to some number.

And they did indeed add more macro lines. They just did it by adding more macros, rather than expanding the number of lines per individual macro.

The speculation was on how they were going to achieve the new specific number of macro lines they cited.

well they kinda did... but yo have to hit the macro a couple of times for example:

    Alt+1:
    /equip Head
    /equip Body
    /equip Back
    /equip Legs
    /equip Ring1
    /page 2

    then hit Alt+1 again
    /equip Ring2
    /equip Waist
    /whatever
    /weaponskill
    /page 1

then hit w/e macro you have to change gear back to normal
Disclaimer: Commands might be wrong.. but you get the idea >.>

so basically we have more than 6 lines... but it requires more work =/

Yeah they did say specifically more lines, its just people attempted to plug common sense into the equation and it didnt compute. 'hey your getting more macro spaces!" yay!!! 'We mean more pallets not actual lines' FUCK!

so basically we have more than 6 lines... but it requires more work =/
Lag fucks up long macros where you have to string things together x.x

I like the macro thing, I still have pretty bad macros on my 360 and PS2, and just put off making all the macros for all my jobs on 360. So it looks like now I won't have to spend like a day or more putting the macros on my PC on 360 and PS2.

You guys should go easy on Kenji for the next day or so while he waits for KI to load.

Anyway, I'm still pissed that SE added Books of macros with new commands you need to be sufferring from severe OCD to actually use instead of just adding five lines to the ends of the current ones and letting people use their windower macros. >.>

Being able to store macros server side rocks though. Not wanting to rewrite all my macros was half the reason I didn't play on PC after getting a copy of the game for it.

The battle music change is nice, I guess. Seeing "reddish-purple" names on mobs you can attack is ok too. I'm still more looking forward to the SMN, BLM, etc changes they've been talking about for a while now more though.

Re: Battle System Improvements (02/22/2008) - (Nothing good)

I meant to point this out before but reddish-purple named mobs will be nice if they are associated as "Foes" for purposes of chat filters. It's annoying to have to unfilter special actions on/by others/NPCs in order to see self-targetted weaponskills readied by a mob when the last action taken on it was performed by a member of a different party in the alliance. Also if the music trigger is a common radius that is used for other things ingame, it could also be useful when you don't use distance plugin/windower/PC (not to rederail), for positioning. For instance if it's 10' from target or from the nearest engaged player it would be helpful in setting up mages for Zhayolm Remnants boss, etc.

Hmm interesting, maybe the music triggers when you aggro a mob. Useful to despawn corses at Tiamat. :D

P.S. I hate most of battle music anyway >_>; [To keep the bitching pattern]

They actually gave some away as prizes at Fan Fest 2006, so I'd think they're okay as well, given that fact. :X Then again, it's SE so who freaking knows.

You're not quite getting what I'm saying. What you're saying is they didn't announce more lines per macro. What I'm saying is they did announce more lines without specifying if it'd be more lines per macro or just more macros. I'm not saying they announced more lines per macro, just they announced more lines total.

Kenji while I agree with your standpoint you have to realize the majority of posters on BG don't. And arguing against the BG community is like having sex with a hooker, It feels good for a little while at first then you eventually just give up and die... of some STD.
