    Samurai weapon question

Hello, I have Onimaru, Ushikirimaru and Soboro Sukehiro, and I want to know which I should use while saving up for Hagun.

    Thank you

I would say Ushikirimaru or Onimaru for any situation your going to use 300tp or honestly Ushikirimaru isn't bad for regular use until you get Hagun. I think I would only use Soboro for exp use or salvage use though for quick constant dumping of tp. Being a sam though as my first job and having played since launch though I never had the luxury to use Soboro until it was introduced many years after my sam had been 75. More importantly get Hagun asap! Hope that helps.

Ushi so people will assume it's a Hagun and you won't look as gimp.

    Really:

If you're going to be sitting on 100+ TP for extended periods of time: Ushi.

If you're WSing at 100TP: Oni.

pretty sure soboru has an edge over ushi/oni,the ws dmg doesn rly have too large gaps here to justify any of the 2 last named

if you use sam outside of an xp pty use onimaru tho

    Re: Samurai weapon question

Under 100 tp, which includes WS, Onimaru has the following:
    Dmg: 83
    Acc: 5
    Att: 18

    Ushi:
    Dmg: 82
    Str: 2
    Enmity: 2

The additional Str will hit an fstr tier half the time depending on your current Str, giving you equal damage on the two. Then you have Onimaru's Att and Acc bonus. Oni is clearly the winner under 100tp, and for WS.

Over 100 TP Onimaru has Dmg: 73, making it clearly inferior.

The question is, how much time do you spend under 100tp, and over 100tp. If you are playing Samurai correctly you should be either WSing close to 100tp, or holding to 300tp for a lower dmg:tp ratio. Onimaru wins in both of these, with its superior WS numbers.

Unless you spend significant time TPing over 100tp, which you will not likely be doing, Oni wins.

Soboro is a special case. It's usefulness depends on your stats, as well as your playstyle. If you have a lot of DoT damage compared to WS damage, it will probably not be the katana for you. This is commonly the case before a 6-hit build, as you WS significantly less frequently. Its not something you can categorically say is better worse, you just have to try it.
    Keys to Sobo being effective:
    6-hit setup
    WSing @100tp all the time
High Str for improved WS numbers

I use it on anything out of xp that will not kill me/my party with TP spam.

    Re: Samurai weapon question

while saving up for a hagun, most everyone has covered the basics, but wanted to throw a couple things in.

a 300tp ws, onimaru's gonna come out on top just barely over ushi, tho they are both great katanas(pun intended lulz).

soboro at endgame exp/meritpos i really don't care for, even with a 6 hit build unless there are special circumstances. the two of those being sam/rng, it's basically a ridill and sidewinder is your rampage, to use the axe/sword comparison. the other i've seen recently that really impressed me was sam/dnc w/ a soboro. it allowed hiroya(the other sam, i was /war using hagun) enough tp to maintain drain samba 2 on, curing waltz when necessary(i didn't check him in the heat of the fight, but the only visibly gearswap i saw was him putting on osode for waltzes), and still ws with fair regularity.

i will say this tho, if you're a fan of meritpos in the mire, do not use soboro. ive actually left parties because another sam was using one(rare occasion, im not that much of a party snob) just because while yes, esp. w/ crit hit merits and a 6 hit setup its very nice, it didn't offset the spam of cursed sphere and abrasive tantra, to the point that our healers, who were not subpar by any means, had to rest enough that we never really saw past chain 7-10.

generally, unless it's right before a ws or you have someone that has magically loaded ineverlosehate.exe, keep seigan up, demand haste from your mage, and a soboro won't be devastating at bird camp, just kind of annoying unless said soboro using person is using their tp to give you curing waltz to offset the pecking flurries taken to the face with 3 seconds left on third eye.

edit real quick: being elvaan, str has never been an issue for me, and i agree at the post above mine that higher str does mean higher numbers of course, but especially in exp situations, don't discount attack. normally at birds, yes, you can statically push a higher possible ws number swapping to osode for example, but i've found that other than swapping askar for alkys(i have dusk for my other jobs, i just hate running slow and the dex and eva from askar hands is worth the sacrifice of 1 haste for me personally... i also don't have a haste belt, currently 0/7 on swift, hoping to make it 1/8 tomorrow tho ^^), byakko's for shura legs +1 and turban for shura kabuto, keeping the hauby on(i have a +1 and short of having relic, where that 20 acc on the weapon allows you to explore things like byrnie +1, hauby +1 is the superior choice for /war wsing). subbing thf, which unless you're exping on like aura statues or in dynamis, isn't worth it, obviously, drop everything and put str there(ie, i swap out my sniper's +1 for flame, life belt for warwolf, hauby for osode), but try then to at least keep attack food on, even with a brd.

I got in a big argument about hagun vs. augument GK...

Is it true that no matter what augument you get, hagun is still better?
