I've seen Gaffigan's stand up like 4 or 5 times...even when he does repeat material I love it. I think it was the 2nd time I saw him when he started doing the audience-like voices in the middle of his act (i.e. "he's weeeeeeird" in a low whisper), and I just couldn't stop laughing. I think I almost broke my jaw from laughing so hard. Hot pockets never gets old.

Daniel Tosh and Russell Peters are great too. Demetri Martin's probably #2 for me, but I dont know, nothing makes me laugh like Jim Gaffigan's material/performance.

I put on headphones when I go to sleep and listen to comedy every night. Last week I listened to George Carlin. I thought it was horrible. I didn't get his comedy at all. I think the CD I listened to was "You're all diseased".

Carlin tells hippy jokes, that's mostly why people don't get his humor. I think he's fucking hilarious.

I prefer Alan Carr to Jimmy Carr (not related) although both are hilariously funny. Alan Carr's latest DVD from his Tooth Fairy tour had me splitting my sides when I saw it over Christmas. Eddie Izzard is f00king amazing, had the opportunity to see him live couple of years back and loved every minute of the show. Another good live act that surprised me was Dylan Moran. I wasn't a big fan of "Black books" on telly (TV show that he did with a fellow comedian Bill Bailey, it was only ok funny imo) but his live show was awesome.

Chris Rock's "Bigger and Blacker" routine saved me from many boring days at work on .mp3s... same for Billy Connolly's older stuff, both comedy classics.

Bill Bailey and Billy Connolly = yes. They're both the kind of comic that doesn't rely on one-liners or gimmicks, but can just talk, or in Bill Bailey's case dick around with a Theremin, and be hilarious.

Yes! before listening to Billy connolly I thought all British/scottish humor was dry and often stale but the way this man tells his stories is just genius

Laugh at me all you want, but Larry the Cable Guy is my favorite. And yes, I'm serious.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. Why the fuck do people think Larry the Cable Guy is funny and how can we get them all in one place so we can turn on the deadly neurotoxin emitters?

As for favorites.. Daniel Tosh and Jim Gaffigan for sure. I also love Jimmy Carr, though he's more of a british thing I guess. He did have a special on Comedy Central, though...I love anyone who can turn a phrase really well, and he definitely qualifies.

Some people have a different sense of humor? Not hating on you or anything because you dislike him, but I guess that's just the way I feel about it.

Most of my favourites have been mentioned, Bill Hicks, Jimmy Carr, Eddie Izzard and so on, I also remember loving Eddie Murphy's early stuff when I was a teenager, and although I've heard him more doing comedy songs, Kevin Bloody Wilson is pretty amusing.

Just saw Juff Dunham last month. I have to say i am a sucker for puppets. He has a x-mas special coming out on Comedy Central that he was testing jokes with. Walter reminds me of my Grandpa. So yeah he is my top.

Jim Gaffigan is right uphtere too. Plus people say my kid looks like him.

he played bernard black on black books w/ bill bailey. he's an irish comedian and fucking hysterical.

also, zach galifinakis, eddie izzard, jim gaffigan and patton oswald are all amazing.

of those no longer doing standup, mitch hedberg, god rest his soul, and steve martin. if you get the chance, listen to 'let's get small' by steve martin, recorded at a tiny comedy club in san francisco in the early 70s.

edit: forgot to mention henry rollins. he's not quite a stand up comic, he's what i, in a nod to mel brooks, call a stand up philosopher. being from the same part of the country as he is, whenever i get a chance to see him at the birchmere in alexandria or the 9:30 club in dc, he always tells stories about he and ian mckaye doing crazy shit in the early 80s. but i spoke to my best friend who saw him in birmingham alabama the other night, even when not a 'local show,' he's a combination of bill hicks brand of social criticism, while being hysterically funny(my two favorite stories of his are his first ramones concert in falls church virginia and getting caught by tony iommi(sp?) of black sabbath making out with the guitar that iommi used to record iron man)
