You must of had a ton of fun playing previous Mario Kart games with 2-4 people on your sofa in total silence.Originally Posted by Maxxthepenguin
hows this any different? you can still play 2-4 player on same system.
you miss the fact that there isnt a wii headset?
Well, I prefer to play online games that lack tedium (aka not RPGs) without voicechat anyways... The complete anonymity lends itself to complete assholishness.Originally Posted by Xavier
And seriously, did anyone expect it to have voicechat? Having text chat is better than what I was expecting (nothing). I have no idea what everyone else was expecting. There is no freaking headset people, how can you be disappointed by this?
I guess that because there isn't currently a headset that there can never be a headset and releasing one would be absolutely impossible because there isn't currently a headset.
My complaint is that you might as well be offline, even though basic text chat is a good start.
Until they actually announce a headset it would be wise to not expect it lol
And online is necessary because AI can only be so good, online means different people will play different ways. Plus, you DO have text chat between games... and worse comes to worse you can even vent or call with friends while playing. Freaking out every time there is not voice chat or some other feature that you KNOW isn't going to happen is silly
most likely planning on doing most of my playing offline anyways, and i dont really feel like a headset would give the game a better feel, as more often than not i hear garbage on headsets. its not a game that needs team coordination. it's a racing game.
I don't exactly think I'm freaking out, I just said one sentence about it. I didn't even randomly capitalize words to express my anger.Originally Posted by Maxxthepenguin
I'm hoping they bring back the Battle Mode though. :nikkei:Originally Posted by izembo
I wasn't expecting any form of communication either. Then again, I don't really care as long as the game is good and fun.
It's not such a bad thing that there's no voice chat... we know how annoying those 10 year olds can get.
Still no fun to have to resort to text-chat with friends only between matches though.Originally Posted by Exoduso
Unsure why they couldn't just add the support for your average USB headset (the Wii has two USB slots) then come out with an official solution in the future, and just keep voice-chat locked to friends-only.
I agree, although in the case of MKDS snaking was a huge issue, so I'm hoping Nintendo has ironed out every possible means people could possibly come up with to get an edge over people without callused thumbs. And online is necessary because AI can only be so good, online means different people will play different ways.
I think any form of disconnection should count towards a penalty for your char, have a "Disconnection rate" next to the player name.
Soccer / Zelda etc, a lot of nintendo's online games suck to play online, since when you win, you lose, because people pull the plug.
I hope their next console has real online modes instead of this 1980 ancient version we're using with nintendo.
WHAT?!!! i fucking love mario kart. i can't wait for it to come out. i could care less about brawl.Originally Posted by Lordwafik

I was slightly disappointed before, but now, well, haha.In our original article, we speculated that players might be able to use a USB keyboard or at the very least the Wii remote to enter customized text messages. Not so, according to a rep for Nintendo of America, who contacted us today to clarify. Apparently, gamers will only be able to select from a pre-determined number of phrases that can be sent along as rudimentary texts before matches. Nintendo is clearly playing it safe.
heard the wheel gimmick is completely retarded.
I'd be discarding that for a regular controller asap if I was female and owned a wii.
really that's perfectly fine, it doesnt really need any kind of text communication.Originally Posted by Xavier

So because Nintendo is consistent with shitty online play, you can't complain about their online play?
I've said this about Smash Brothers too. If your only communication online is a series of pre-made phrases, then you might as well be playing offline against very intelligent AI players. If there is no sense of competition among peers, no opportunity to express yourself, then you're just playing a computer. AI is more than capable of randomly saying quirky one liners.
If you find that people are annoying while playing online, I understand that, but most games allow you to mute/ignore players. Annoyance isn't really justification for Nintendo being 10 years behind the curve.
