Same I was holding out to see what Sony would say about the White PS3 but this.. just blows that shit away.

I'm not concerned about the time the system will last, more about how long it'll be used before it's put aside. Part of what keep Xbox360 in use is the online multiplayer, and the large variety of games. PS3 doesn't have any PS3 only games worth playing, granted I liked Resistance one, I still haven't touched the PS3 since I beat it. Double goes for the Wii. What was the last game I played? Poke'mon Battle Revolution, or that Bug Island shit? or was it Bleach.Originally Posted by Larsa

PS2 has lasted almost 8 years this year and is still coming out with a few games I am looking forward to. PS1 also was ridiculously expensive and had no games worth buying. It's only been a year and a half (less?) since PS3 released, as I recall PS2 had some pretty shitty games until MGS2 hit. I think MGS4 is going to do for the PS3 exactly what MGS2 did for the PS2.

For the PS2 though, MGS2 and FFX came out 1 month apart from each other IIRC correctly. And they weren't a year late, either.Originally Posted by Larsa
MGS4 will tide enough people over for the PS3 to get back into the game though. It's not a HUGE title, but enough people are willing to pick it up, being a very polished title and everything (well that and the amount of MGS4 commercials Sony has been pushing for the last couple of months will surely do their job.)
I still fail to see how Sony is going to make money from this bundle... but I guess the consumers can rejoice, and hell maybe in the long run it'll actually help them (assuming that they created the idea of this bundle in order to push more consoles into homes for the sake of games still to come.)
I don't know about you but I loved my Dreamcast. Though I guess it couldn't be considered competition compared to PS2. What I am trying to say here is I'm not talking sales, I honestly don't give a shit about sales. Quality games like MGS4 is what I am talking about here. I know for damn sure no games this year will hold a candle to it. GTA4 will probably be awesome, but my love for the MGS series just can't be overlapped by something as mainstream as GTA4. Mainstream aside, the GTA games have always been fun. I will definitely pick it up, it looks like it will be good shit.Originally Posted by Deejay
What makes Metal Gear so great? I never really understood how to play the Metal Gear games. I started with Splinter Cell, and MGS just seems weird to me. I can't figure out when to play stealthy or play actiony. I might get a PS3 for this, still thinking about it. I know i'm going to play Ratchet and Little Big Planet but nothing else really interests me from Sony.
Team ICO's next game (guys who did Shadow of the Colossus and ICO) will most likely be amazing as usual, LBP honestly isn't wow'ing me as much as it should, Ratchet and Clank was really fucking awesome but real short, I beat it at my buddies in the span of a weekend. I know Metal Gear Online will hold me over, hell MGS3:S's online mode sure did long enough until the releases of a few games I wanted hit.
Deejay everything about MGS games make it great. I'll admit I didn't actually start the series until early last year. The epic soundtrack, gameplay, the unique story, little easter eggs just hooked me. I love the fact that you can choose to be stealthy or just run in and kick ass. Of course the point of the game is to be sneaky but I usually just switch off and on depending on what kind of situation you are thrown in.
There is a MGS bundle coming out for PS2 including MGS1, MGS2 Subsistence and MGS3 Subsistence for $30 bucks. I highly recommend you pick this up.
For the record; I am not being incredibly biased here, I actually know a lot of people who own both consoles and the stories they have for the broken down 360's has really dissuaded me from buying one. If MS put out 360's on the market with a low failure rate, I would buy one day one for sure. There are a lot of games I would love to play on it, but until then I am going to just stick with PS3 whenever they decide to put out this kickass package.
eBay a PS3 with no HD - $140
80GB HD - $70
MGS4 - $60
Congratulations, you just saved $230.
Production cost are probably lower, or will be lower by June. There was probably some sort of deal between Sony and Konami for the bundle. More consoles means more games sold.Originally Posted by Exoduso
Honestly catching up to 360 is probably Sony's main goal, and they've been pretty good at it. Selling 1.5 million consoles more then 360 in 2007, a mostly shitty year, shows how strong the brand is. In 2008 with a bunch of exclusive titles being released they can probably do even better. I mean why worry about ~4 million MGS4 games sold when you have things like GT down the road which could easily outsell games like Halo3 if the install base is high enough? It also helps a ton with multiplatform games, although I'm sure Sony wishes they'd have this out before GTA4 hits which is obviously going to be the biggest selling game of the year.
Meh I would rather have my products new. I don't know if it's an obsessive thing or not but something about it just makes me feel more satisfied with it. Just hope that the seller isn't shady and the PS3 won't come bricked.
Must get DS3 and MGS... /foamy mouth

PS3 might not have a great lineup yet, but just the simple fact that you're getting so much for such a great price attracted me to purchase one(Blu-Ray, very good 2008 game lineup, etc). Sony's loss = my gain.

It was said before in the other thread, but it would be considered very good if MGS4 had a 1/10 ratio.
MGS2 sold 7 million and 3 sold 3.5 or so... Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying it's not an AAA title because it is. These games also get extremely high scores. That still doesn't mean that everybody is going to be buying MGS4. I bet for quite a few it will be the first Metal Gear game, though, seeing how Sony is pushing it with commercials, etc.
Alright I'm not sure if I really want to know, but why are sales such a big deal to you guys? Don't people care more about the game itself anymore? SMT Nocturne in my mind is the best RPG in existence today, and it sure as hell didn't win any sales records. Well actually it probably wins for the most ridiculously overpriced game because of how hard it is to find nowadays.

It doesn't really matter, but it does effect future games in specific series, etc., as well as whether the developers would choose to go multiplat or not to try and cover the cost/cut down on losses/make more money cus they're greedy whores/whatever it is that makes their day.
Honestly, half the reviewers bashed LO and it's a great game. I stopped trusting sales/reviewers a long time ago, I just try the game for myself and if i'm not sure i'd like it, I gamefly. (yeah I know, taboo right? sorry, next time i'll spend my 65 bucks on a game I didn't like and end up trading it in for 30 after a week. >.>) If I hated it, no harm no foul.
Really looking forward to this game, at least i'll have some other purpose for my PS3 other than the occasional Uncharted/bluray movie.
Stupid question, is 80 GB the one with full backwards compatability? My PS2 stopped reading discs a long time ago so I missed out on alot of games I wanna play, I'll definately be picking this up if it comes to Europe and it's the one with full/almost full backwards compatability.
Its not full, but the 80 GB is up to about 98% BC. Pretty much the only games it doesnt play are the games no one cares about. So unless you want to play games like Barbies dream house or some shit like that, it'll work.
How did you know?Originally Posted by kazen
Thanks, now to just hope they bother to release this bundle over in Europe.
