    BRD at Proto-Ultima

    Hi,

I am due to attend my first Proto-Ultima run this evening. The LS has killed him many many times, but I am a recent addition.

I will be going as BRD, and have done some reading, but nothing beats experience, so I'd really appreciate advice from experienced folks as to what to look out for during the run.

A few of things I am particularly interested in are how hard it is to land debuffs on him (my Wind+Singing approx 500, CHR approx 120), how to tell who is the current target for Citadel Buster, and how to avoid getting hit by it. Also interested in frequency of status effect moves he tosses out.

Advice on other aspects of the fight also very welcome. Thanks.

[edit - group uses mainly BLM and SMN on most Limbus runs, if this is helpful]

Help erase people who get hit by Chemical bomb and -na for tp attacks after nuclear waste, keep stoneskin/blink up, it will eat Holy2's that may be randomly thrown your way and absorb some damage from Armor buster. Chances are you wont have hate during CB but if you do just throw up hymnus, /assist to tell its target. Not much more to it really.

Hate frequently switches to me (I'm bard) during CB so watch out!

/assist <t> and t is Ultima. Your target will change to the person who has hate. Citadel buster is damage to anyone within 30' of the target. Typically we have our target stand in a corner away from the alliance.

Mm, debuffs aren't hard at all, I've never had a problem with Elegy in just my normal meripo +14 skill setup and cat CHR. Threnodies land np as well. Requiem... I don't think lands because he's light based, but I dunno, sometimes things like that are weird, and it's been a while since I've fought him and I really don't recall for sure.

Every 20% HP, starting at 79%, he does Dissipation which can be stunned. Dissipation is a full Dispel, Terror, and hate reset. Stunning = good.

Chemical Bomb is a double Slow (Slow + Elegy), which requires 2 Erases. This I believe can only be used until Ultima is at 60% HP.

The others are mostly just damage, no status effects, outside the breath attacks after Nuclear Waste - the status effect would be that paired with the element of the breath attack. Mm, ones to worry about would be Smoke Discharge, which is Petrification (for WHM worries only, obviously); Hydro Cannon has a strong Poison; Cryojet is Paralyze, Turbofan is Silence; and the Flame Thrower has Plague which ticks down TP so should be removed.

Ultima itself has no TP regen so will only use TP moves upon receiving TP, outside of Dissipation usage.

Holy II shows up later in the fight and is slightly random targeting, though it's typically a person close by. Our fights it is usually our tank that gets it, but I as BRD got hit a couple times too, and I believe a random BLM got it once.

Citadel targets will a) be drawn in if they try to run, and b) can be found by targeting Ultima and typing /assist. Ultima doesn't attack or anything during the countdown, so everyone can just book it out of the room and the selected target, again, will be drawn in. I survived one once on BRD, one of those random critical resists; I died shortly after by being smacked around a bit.

Basically, as BRD, try to keep track of your songs on your tank... if you're under a minute or something and it just used some crazy TP move, go in and resing then rather than risk being around for a TP move. Be sure you're nowhere near it when Dissipation is set to go off. Be ready to Erase on Chemical Bomb, since it needs two; you and the WHM or whomever can each Erase and then tank can get re-Hasted.
