    HD Analysis

I've been having some issues with my PC lately, that I'm going to blame on my HD. my rig is somewhat old'ish, and has a 80gig HD on it. as of now I have about 4.3gigs free, which seems to make no sense seeing as how I dont have FFXI (or any other games for that matter) installed on my pc anymore, maybe at most 10gigs of music, and like 2gigs of porn. does anyone know of any good software for HD analysis that will tell me exactly what is eating up so much room on my PC? BTW I've done disk clean ups and defrags (which my pc is in bad need of) but I still have no clue whats taking up all this space on my HD

    Re: HD Analysis

Have you tried going through your add/remove programs list to see what is there? Also, try clearing out your temporary internet files if you haven't done so those can really add up of you haven't cleaned that out in a while. I'm not sure of any good programs for hard drive analysis, I'll ask around my office and see if anyone knows of anything.

Check the size of your system restore folder. Check your temp folders, not just temporary internet folders.

There's a windows tool you can use for basic stuff, open My Computer and right click on your HD icon then select properties. There'll be a tab with some tools on it, including a disc cleanup.

I used this http://www.andyhsoftware.co.uk/space/ the other week for that purpose. There are certainly others around if you seach on Google or something.

I had a similar case where the drive was pretty much full and it was due to McAfee AV generating large log files for some reason...seriously, like 50GB worth...

    Re: HD Analysis

I remember back in the day, running Windows ME on a 2GB drive. System Restore bloated itself so that it filled the HD completely and convinced both Windows and the FAT that there was about 180GB of data on a 2GB drive. hi2u fdisk!

    edited for disgraceful spelling

cc cleaner or whatever removed 5GB of crap from my HD previously, just be wary of installing it because it does add spyware (yahoo toolbar and other useless shit)

sytem restore and other shit leave stuff filling your hd (i never lead sys restore on its useless real backups are MUCH better)

even when you add/remove programs you could have some resiudal crap left over

You could well be right, I've seen machines with 100GB+ of porn lurking in the temporary internet folders on more than one occasion.

    Crap cleaner.

Pretty good program for finding out what is taking up your space and getting rid of it.

Movies tend to take up a lot of space. If your not a person who downloads anything, then maybe you should run some spyware and antivirus to make sure your computer isn't a dumping ground for someone else.
