No one is going to say they're racist, publicly. (Thankfully) racism is absolutely taboo now, and also logically indefensible, and people know they'll get torn into if they try to defend it in any form. The best you'll get is the already seen cop-outs/maddoxisms "I hate everyone equally" or "I don't hate black people, I just hate niggers". Even though statements like those don't explicitly imply racism, they come off as (laughably) self-empowering and asserting of one's perceived superiority, and (perceived) superiority is kinda what racism is all about, in theory.
Prejudice and discrimination are generally more relevant in this day and age and definitely this audience, and while a part of racist behavior they also exist outside the realm of racists. To get the ball rolling on that, I'll admit that I prejudge in monologue semi-frequently. When I see SoCal VonDouche driving daddy's BMW through campus, I often can't help myself but cast a passing judgment on him and his parents.
This is not a cop out, it is a statement of fact. Calling this a copout means you define 100% of the black population, and only the black population as niggers. We already defined the word earlier in this thread. It has evolved(regardless of what Jesse Jackson will have you believe) to describe a lifestyle and an attitude, as opposed to a particular ethnicity that it defined in the past. I don't hate anyone because of the color of their skin. I hate people based on the content of their character. And yes, I did just reference Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech."I don't hate black people, I just hate niggers".

I also agree with pretty much everything that's been said so far. People put far too much much importance on race these days.
I suppose I'm "racist" but not in a serious, demeaning, hurtful way? Is it racism if you make a joke out of stereotypes without intent to actually inflame someone?
I've definitely said "racist" things but I don't consider myself full of prejudice or resentment towards anyone. I suppose my next question would be has our society reached the point where racism has diverged into almost accepted self-mocking and still taboo hate-based?
I pre-judge (all races, mind you), find racist jokes funny and I'm around people who constantly drop the word "nigger" as a derogatory term without finding myself offended (similar to "fag"), but I wouldn't consider myself racist.
I still consider all races to be equal and wouldn't treat one differently from the other.
No, it's a cop out. If you were looking for a term to state that you just hate ignorant people, you could state "I hate ignorant people", and it wouldn't have to bring up a race in the slightest. Hell, at least sath actually included the others. The fact that the racist question automatically brought up the canned response in regards to just black people when there are hispanics, asians, white trash etc already proves you're just being a regurgitating tard or are just predisposed to judging people not based on their lackings as a human being in general but rather their lackings as a human being in regards to their race. As a result, you're racist.Originally Posted by Melchiah

I don't think anyone can honestly pick "no", there's always been a few subconcious thoughts at least, everyone has had 'em, you pick out the stereotypes being played out and think "no fucking way"
except maybe Colbert.
Honestly I'm a bit like this. A few friends and I always call eachother a nigger (We're white folks from Alabama mind you) and not so much in a "Nigga please" but like.. "You're a nigger, ho." Or something like that. Same with fag, yet I have no ill feelings towards either as Xavier said. D: Does that make me really a racist? Maybe a little bit I guess, but I don't mean it in terms of taking a whip to a "black boy's" back and make him pick my cotton or some shit.Originally Posted by Foof
I'm not racist. I despise stupid people regardless of their color, creed or lifestyle. Unfortunately, that includes more people than I'd like to admit.
Not racist racist, but certain ethnic cultures end up pissing me the fuck off.
Examples :
Lebanese people coming up to me thinking I'm going to discount stuff for them because we're both lebanese. There are 181,200 lebanese people in australia, you won't be getting any "Minority discount" from me. Also here in Sydney, a lot of lebanese people try to act like they're hardcore rappers, they are Chavs, and call eachother nigger, it's funny to watch them.
Indian people on call centers. These annoy me to no end because my ISP decided to outsource it's helpdesk, to people I can't understand, who can barely understand what I am talking about - the other day I called them telling me my modem lights aren't flashing at all, the cable is dead, they told me that routers aren't supported by my ISP and if I unplug it the problem will resolve.
It's not their fault I know, but I just hang up when I hear an indian on the phone, or ask to be transferred to an australian person, because I'd actually like help for my internet.
I don't consider myself racist, because I don't hate all aspects of Indians or Lebanese people, some things get on my nerves. I think that's the case of most people here, although I know some people are purely racist, like my family and extended family.
The whole lot of my family hate asians, like full on hatred, I can't understand how they all can hate asian people as if they were brutally raped by them or something, like when I went to japan, they were saying "Yuck, why would you go anywhere with ching chongs all over it?". The only people who aren't complete racists in my family are me and my sister. They also hate black people and think they're are revolting. My mother didnt want my sister (from USA) bringing a black friend over for my other sister's wedding (in Australia) because she didnt want to be "embarassed" by her. I find that so horrible.
Actually nvm, I actually am racist, I can't stand aboriginies. But ask anyone in sydney and you'll get the same answer >_>
I love this Chris Rock stand up routine, I think this is an example of what people were talking about.
Anyway, my brothers are racist. Not slightly bigoted, not kind of intolerant, not sort-of prejudiced, not very close-minded, but full-on, hard core, balls-to-the-wall, petal-to-the-metal, "honey what happened to those new white sheets" racist. The funny thing is that they think that they are good at hiding it. The one always makes a show of asking me why I don't bring my roommate (who is black) to family functions, and I always tell him that, firstly, I am not dating her, and secondly, that I wouldn't want to expose her to their racism. This last Christmas they had a 15 minute diatribe about how black people are lazy and blah blah blah (I try really hard to tune them out because I don't want to have a "Chair of Tolerance"™ incident), once they were finished, I asked the one brother, "So this is the part when you ask me why I didn't bring my roommate for dinner?" Yeah, he really wanted to hit me. (Oh, and don't feel bad guys, they hate fags even more than other races, they just won't talk about it when I am around.)
The point is that you can get over how you were raised. No matter what the national origin, no matter what the race, no matter the religion, no matter the gender, no matter the sexual orientation- people are inherently the same. And sadly that means that 90% of them are total fucking assholes. I call it better human relations through misanthropy- once you realize that most people suck, you can try to make yourself a better person that doesn't suck. If more people did this, we would have a less sucky world.
As I like to say "Assholes come in all sizes and colors"- never think that there is any greater or less chance of someone being an asshole because of the amount of melanin that he/she has, or any other superfluous label our species of hairless apes may happen to imagine.
Nah, people who hate other's based on stupid generalizations based on the colour of their skin, ethnic background, etc. are ignorant. Most rational individuals can see that from a mile away, which most of you jackasses can't.
It was a tossup between that and the Chris Rock routine, and Septimus flat out beat me to the punch on that one.<Turkeyslam> oh man I saw pure gold at lunch, I was sitting near this group of black guys at a table and they all had tucked in shirts and shit, looked educated, I think they were studying calculus or some shit
<Turkeyslam> and across from there, there was another table with a bunch of white guys, all ghetto looking, three of them wore fucking grills, sagging pants, and one was playing some 50 cent ringtone or some shit
<Turkeyslam> going "yeah boiiii"
<Turkeyslam> and one of the black guys in the table next to me muttered "fucking niggers"
<Turkeyslam> I choked on my fucking jolt cola
I'm not racist. If anything, I'm more along the lines of what Wafik said.
/linguistics professor on.Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you're warming up the noose and finding some matchlight and a cross but seriously now, find new material.
You should be encouraging him to use it, and use it more frequently.
Words only have the power we as people give them, words are not static, language in an evolving, constantly changing living thing.
Historically, the more culturally accepted a word is, the less power it has, until eventually it loses all power and becomes a normal part of our lexicon, and then eventually becomes antiquated.
Look at the stages of the evolution of Nigger:
Used as a mispronounced slur.
Used as a serious slur.
Becomes taboo.
Used as a not-so-serious slur.
Used in common language.
Used in a *new definition*
We as a society now define the common usage of Nigger to mean ignorant fucks who may/MAY NOT be black. Eventually it'll evolve further and be used primarily to mean ignorant fucks, and you'll get into situations of two dumb-ass white boys standing around calling each other nigger(Hell this happens now).
Point is, if you truly want to see the word not used, the best way is to use it. Linguistic history has proven this time and time again. No one likes anything that's been overplayed.
To be honest, it's been the black community who has kept the slur a slur as long as it has by harping on it. People will *always* go for the hot button, and if you let it be a button for you, it's gonna get pushed.
Again, word's only have the power we give them, and if you yourself give them that power, then you have already lost the fight.
In conclusion, Y'all Niggers.
I have different thoughts if I pass a white, black, or hispanic person in a store.

Demonstrations>Take the Race IAT or others if you want, it's kind of interesting
Anyway, I agree with the person on the last page, who I'm too lazy to go quote, but basically said everybody is racist but it may be subconscious. A lot of us can easily fool ourselves into thinking we're not racist and some actually might not be. But the fact of the matter is, whether we want to realize it or not, we may have deep issues we don't even realize exist or realize we might even act on. I know for a fact a few of my friends are racist but they will swear they aren't. I can literally pick out the times they've said things unknowingly or even acted a particular way in situations where it became abundantly clear to me how they really felt on the matter.
Also, using the word nigger to define a lazy person is such a fucking stupid cop out it makes me want to shoot anyone who claims it as such in the face. Sure a nigger is a lazy person but the levels of lazy a "white man" has to stoop to in order to be a "nigger" is much lower than the level a colored man has to stoop to in order to be branded with the exact same term. It's such a joke to just say "oh it's ok to use this disgusting word because it means something you didn't know it meant." No it's not a way to call lazy people, it's a way to get away with using a word with a negative connotation and have the worst argument ever to back it up.

Am I close?
I dont know if this is racist or not, but westerners (white people) I wouldnt try to hurt them, i wouldn't be mean to them, but i just stay away from them. I got used to it, they look at me weird, and i look at them weird too. Well, they look at me weird when they find out im arab. I have to say not all of them are like that, but most of them are, atleast in this part of the world.
