Its easy to debate this ignorant way of thinking on internet forums. But, its not even a debate in the real world, no matter what your race is. If you know so much about the word's usage in today's society, then you'd know: who can use it, why they use it, and what they use it for.

Wafik just told you that Lebanese people in Australia call each other "nigga". I guess the UK and Australian folks use the word "chav" for willfully ignorant and socially irresponsible dirtbags. In America, that class of people identifies itself as "niggas", due to no small part I'm sure of the overruse of the word in the hiphop scene. I made the comment in my post that I hate people based not on the color of their skin, but the content of their character(or in the case of bottomfeeders, the lack thereof). Nigger is just a word, and it's a word that should reflect the classness inability of common white people in the Civil War era to properly pronounce "negro", but I already mentioned this. Now, as for me personally: I don't use the word nigger except on rare occasions. I don't use the word in front of anyone unless I know for a fact they aren't offended. As someone else said, words only have the power you give them. Out of respect for others, I don't spout the word like American rappers do.

To summarize, race is irrelevant. I try to follow King's ideal and make judgments based on content of character. However, it's common knowledge that humans make their first judgment based on what they see, for the simple fact that vision is usually the first sensory input you receive. You can normally see a person before you hear them or smell them, or get to know them. With that being said, when a person has the same appearance as a certain group of people,(thug, dork, guidouche, rich kid... pick one) there is an automatic initial association with that group in the mind of the observer. Everyone does this, no exceptions.

I didn't say it's common usage is entirely accepted but it is most assuredly transitioning towards that, and the sooner that happens, the sooner the word loses it's power and becomes meaningless. When black people fight this trend they only increase how long it takes.

The LISTENER creates the offense. This is a sound linguistic principle here. If the listener chooses not to be offended(and being offended IS a choice the listener makes), then the word has no power. This is especially preposterous in a 3rd party situation (an asian man calling a white man a nigger, and a black man who over-hears it gets offended and reacts. It is obvious being used out of original context, and another listener makes a choice).

Yes, those people are racist if they call you one based on their opinions alone. This has happened to me once before. I'd be at a concert or something and some dude is acting like a dick to someone. I'll call him out and tell him to knock it off, immediately they pull out the racist comments just because I'm a different skin color. However, all my friends know that I don't put up with anybody's shit and I will speak up if someone is in the wrong, regardless of who they are or what they look like.

As long as someone isn't going around saying "that stupid black guy" or "fuckin whitey" or "drunk mexicans", then I think they'd be safe from being called a racist. Once they include their 2cents about someone's skin color along with why they hate them, they've unconsciously(or consciously) made the decision to group everyone in that race for no reason but to pre-judge.

When my close friends use the n-word it's not going to garner the same reaction out of me than if a random white person says it. Telling people to just "get over it" is like telling the Jews to not be so up tight about Holocaust jokes.
