Steady, reliable hangs every 4 secs on ffxi?

I guess this would go here, if it doesn't please move for me >.>

Anyway, after the new HD got installed and most of my stuff has been reinstalled, I tried firing up FFXI. Its been running ok except it will hang exactly every 4 seconds for roughly .5 secs. I've tried killing background apps, lowering the graphics settings, all to no avail.

Only difference in hardware between then and now is my HD is 160GB instead of 80. RPM is the same.

Before I was able to play relatively smoothly with 1280x1024 overlay and 1024x1024 background, with moderate compression.

I've turned compression all the way up, overlay to 1024x768, and background to 512x512 (ow my eyes) with no change.

My HD is defraged, I've run scan disk, I'm running out of options.

Any ideas?

Sounds like it could be a graphics card driver causing it.

do you have any anti virus install? Because last time when I'm using the Kaspersky 5.0, it will doing a scanning every 5mins, which cause my FF hang for 2-3 secs.

Check your fan to your graphic card and check internal temps. I vaguely remember the same thing happening to an old laptop when one of the fans ate shit.
