Your Achilles tendon might of been damaged during the basketball accident causing the other tendons to work harder. Had something similar happen to me, my general doctor thought I had gout because my foot was so swollen. I saw a foot specialist for a second opinion, who pointed the whole Achilles tendon out to me. I had to get fitted for a couple of custom made foot orthotics. It's been a couple of months and my feet are a lot better and I can do things normally again. You should seriously still go see a doctor though.
Chances are you'll get the "rest and pain killers" treatment from the doctor. I've run most my life and have had similar foot injuries in the past. Usually resting + ice/heat (30mins at a time of each) was the key. If it still hurts like hell after a few days, see a doctor.
That's just what I've learned from personal experience as a long time runner and football (sorry, soccer) player.
See a podiatrist. Don't take medical or health advice from someone over the internet. If it's an emergency, i.e. unbearable pain, go to the ER, then see a podiatrist later.
