well, I'm not saying what he did was in anyway right, but I'm not going to compare the life of a dog to his...I don't get why people would like to see him blown up, if he had thrown a baby over the cliff then I could see that being a possible reaction...

Maybe it's just me and my crazy dog=/=human nature. There's a lot worse things that people have done to animals, I'd say religiously beating an animal over the course of its life would end up being worse than having it (hopefully) instantaneously die on impact.

Your hinging the degree of cruelty on how sudden the dog's death was. It's just as likely the dog suffered contusions and broken bones but didn't die immediately. It's barbaric any way you slice it, and even if it's not a human being such casual disregard for life is not a trait I want expressed by men and women trained, paid and fed on our tax dollars.

Why are people so shocked and appalled? It's not like there aren't many activities now a days were cruelty is constantly dished out to animals. Hell, in the Middle Ages people used to shriek in laughter from watching animals being burned alive, and don't even start with the "well, we've evolved" shit. I could understand if you're point of view is that animals deserve some sort of respect to, and this guy clearly isn't providing that, but people constantly try to personofy the inanimate and other animals and sometimes end up feeling even more emotional for other animals over their own species. I'd argue that he, like many, just don't put the same worth as they would to a human, to an animal, but he's in the military so that goes out the window.

I agree with what you're saying. Some animal fanatics really make me angry. My aunt, for example, is a cat lady. Somehow we got to the discussion of how she would rather save an animal's life over a human's, so I asked her if both myself and her cat was in a life threatening situation, who would she save, and she wouldn't even answer. I figured it'd be a no-brainer answer, but some people are just fucked.

See here's the thing that really bothers me. Yes the guy basically was cruel to a puppy for no particular reason other than it was unfortunate enough to walk in this guy's path. Now what happens if it's an Iraqi child? The guy is already showing by his actions that he isn't exactly the most compassionate person around.
