Re: Changes Scheduled for the March Version Update (03/04/2008)

The problem with SE, is that they take so long to add stuff. If the stuff mentioned in the OP was 1 update, then it'd be good. I like the new exp ring and hope it doesn't suck. /dancing will be fun for 3 seconds. I don't play pankration but it sounds cool. But, the only problem is the time between updates. If this was one of the monthly updates then sure, it's ok. But hoping the exp band isn't the best of the whole big update? Hmm. And it's been how many months since WotG now? And this is our first update?

But now it's March, and we're hoping that this update will be salvageable. If we had an update in January, then WotG expansion update in February, then adding this stuff in March, you'd see less people complaining.

Have we even got any WotG information besides the generic "More missions! Quests! Medals!"?

Also, gogo very narrow foresight on naming the ring? Emperor Band > Empress Band? Bound to raise a bit of commotion.
The new exp ring *sounds* good... kinda like i thought the Chariot Band was going to be win.
What can I say? I'm a hopeless optimist!

Re: Changes Scheduled for the March Version Update (03/04/2008)

I believe my discontent is somewhat along the lines of that it's window dressing...

It's all fine and good to tell me about "all the neat stuff" that's coming out. I'm glad for the people who use those facets of FFXI. I don't. Haven't even walked into a Pankration match since it came out. It's not what I do.

Much as some people may love Chocobo racing, and Pankration, etc... It's not the core of the game. And I believe that the majority of posters who are decrying these announcements are expressing just that...dissatisfaction with the attention paid to the core of the game.

It may be that SE has their "super secret wowza update" in store for us. Somehow, having seen patch updates come and go? I would have thought that at least there would have been something other than the gaming equivalent of cotton candy. You may like the stuff, but it's merely sugar and air. A steady diet is going to give you a massive case of heartburn...somewhat like these "fluffy" announcements.

Why would you expect game updates in January, February and March? They have never done that. This update is a little late (a week or two), I do not know why anyone expected this update any earlier.

So what does bitching on a forum they probably don't read, accomplish?
    oh.. they read.

maybe not the person you're specifically looking for.. but they have a representative that reads BG.
they actually have several NA reps and JP reps, and most of the dev team reads the forums as well. Face it, we find a lot of problems, broken things, like clerics pants +1. Not listening to us and the game would be considerably worse, we are the best beta testers they have. Remember the devs dont have the final say in adjusting kings either, just fixing errors in the program, so we can bitch all we want about how much fail they are, they want to fix it. Sage motherfucking Sundi wants to fix them, but the guy in charge says its fine and should stay.

They read every post we have on the update, I am 100% positive we scare the shit out of them if the updates are less than stellar, they know we are the bastion of the community they really have to appease because we influence the younger players who want to be like the endgame elites.
Sorry to disagree with you Sono, but it's preeeetty obvious that the "bastion of the community" in their eyes are their fellow countrymen. That's pretty damn obvious from the sheer amount of attention and publications that the Japanese receive, versus our Brady Games Guide, for one example.

The Developers seemed pretty shocked to hear us boo about certain things at FanFestival. And if that surprise is indicative of anything, it's that they don't listen to us. Consider that even though, perhaps, BG was "responsible" for finding the problem with the Cleric pants, more than likely, some Japanese person or group found it first, told them, and we were playing catch-up.

I don't want to turn this into a JP vs NA argument. I just want to clarify the reality of the situation. On a pie-chart of care, JP's receive 70%, NA's receive 20%, and EU receive 10%. Everyone else sits on the circumference.

Re: Changes Scheduled for the March Version Update (03/04/2008)

I remember boos for Blm not getting a better fix. Other things were there, but not all come to mind.

I went to the Fan Festival before ToAU came out, I can tell you from the venue... they really don't care about NA audiences as much as JP. Either that or they let someone plan it and they were made of fail (not the announcements, people were ripping the tent down at chocobo racing and shit... the tent itself was a bad idea for a rainy, cold day. By comparison, many of the JP events happen within super-nice hotels). Either way, kinda sucked, but at least I have my Moogle Rod! (kupo)

An edit in: I've heard that the panels don't really know what to make of "boos" when they get them because Japanese audiences usually don't react in the same way- I think they tend to bite their tongues and ask questions later. I guess the key difference is they actually get to ask most the questions.

Well, all kinds of stuff. I can't even remember, there was so much stuff. Of course, the main one being that they once again gipped us on Absolute Virtue.

I also have been to both Festivals, and I can tell you, I really don't remember the ToAU one invoking so much negativity.

How would the update after the expansion have anything to do with the "validity" of WotG's release? It's no longer the "release".
Maybe because WotG still sucks horrendously while ToAU isn't even technically finished yet. You seem to be a real advocate of WotG, can you justify all this regurgitated nonsense in the name of a new expansion?[/quote:1pd1rnhi]

Reading questions before answering them would be nice.

I can't judge WotG's first update by the contents of the second update. I can't judge WotG as an expansion until all of its updates have come and gone.

Not that I physically can't, anyone who would is retarded.

Perhaps not as eloquent as an above poster, but I think you're giving this place too much credit. For all the Zam bashing that goes around, I'd say the two things that are consistent are negativity toward SE and our fellow players for reasons obvious and some not.

I just said yesterday that SE should give PUP a chariot pet. This Pankration business, totally unfair.

I think the big shocker of this update was supposed to be the AV video. I think they honestly thought it was going to be the saving grace and people were going to figure it out and it would be the best Christmas ever. However seeing as how people are no closer to finding the right combination of random ass shit to kill it, SE failed in this patch and I doubt they have anything super amazing to add (Ie: Scholar suddenly can equip Morrigans! If you can read this FFXI dev team, do that and we'll call it a win). Either way some of the stuff mentioned so far isn't so bad, so provided the AF gear is useful then it's not so bad.

It doesn't take a genius to compare an expansions release with another expansions release, as well as their respective first updates. At this point in time people were skeeting all over ToAU's merit areas so the first update wasn't as critical as the regurgitated garbage being fed to us for WotG.

I'll simplify things, WotG should've never been released, at least not in its current state, and resources should have gone into finishing ToAU. The SkySerpent quests alone are better then WotG's garbage at this point.
