I'd think so, the clusters/malboros/ravens and stuff are different color depending which you catch, and I've even seen those tiny yellow spiders from the "Come into my Parlor" BCNM.Originally Posted by Spira

What I wanna know, is this:
Where the fuck is the stuffed moogle cait sith normally rides on?
Btw, loldances, now dancer is obsolete, lolpankration, that's been obsolete, guess the caps are cool for the 10 or so people who did the gold pass (gl recruiting ppl these days).
As for the ring, well, we all thrive on faster methods of exp, so I can only hope this is win.
Uh, is the only FF you've played FF7?Originally Posted by neochaos
May not be huge, fantastic news, but I'm still curious about this new exp band. Would be hilarious if it worked like an Anniversary Band, but only in Conquest areas. XD I'm sure that would get at least a couple of parties out of the over f'in crowded ToAU camps. The other day my meritpt ended up going to KRT (3xMNK COR RDM PLD/WHM) because literally everywhere else was full. Made decent exp, too.
I hope those of us who DID do the whole Gold World Pass thing can still get the caps. :/ I got a GWP for my ex-bf about 2,5 years back and got all my rewards, and when he quit the game he left his char to me. I want the cute hats, and I wanna know what they do! (Inventory -1, hello!)
Pet peeve coming up, though - with all these minor tweaks and tiny things (emotes, Pankration mobs, etc), how can it be that they still haven't added "Why?" to the auto-translate? Is there a translation problem of some sort? I don't get it. :/

Personally, I think this is EXACTLY the reason we're seeing so much internet drama right now. That and Allah's been on and off for the last week. But more so that everyone was expecting SE to have an AV video that wasn't the equivalent of an SNL skit where the actors are laughing.Originally Posted by Not Kuno

I think some people were speculating about whether this new ring could be used in addition to the Empress Band, so I thought this was relevant. I quickly looked through the thread to see if anyone posted this, but didn't see anything about possession. Please note, however, that only one of the above three can be in your possession at any given time.
Yeah, that's definetly different to what it originaly was. Well spotted.Originally Posted by hammy
actually, this is just one kind of attitude. from where follows a quite pointless discussions if it's good or wrong. This is the correct attitude. Yes we should expect new stuff, yes there should be good stuff, but if you expect too much you will be disappointed.
I dont agree on pointless, endless wines but also people should understand that some of us are simply attached to the game: to its locations, to tarus and RDMs. so the whole comment "either you accept this mediocre content or quit" doesnt apply much.
I dont believe expecting a new avatar after about 2 yrs and them stating "there will be new avatarS" is childish. I'm not wishing for 10 new avatars released one per month.
I dont believe expecting new BLU spells, BLU relic armors and such to be inappropriate. 2 out of my 3 jobs are from ToAU, so basically almost every limbus/dynamis run for me is equal to ZERO expectations, and it's not a nice feeling. more, i can't have goals of pimping these two jobs since there is basically no gear aside Homam and Crimson maybe.
Finally, it's not wrong to expect new gameplay elements from a new game that clearly was released too early. so the 3 strongholds give me nothing new? i'm dissapointed.
That's actually a good question. A lot of the stuff already in the auto-translator doesn't translate exactly, but "Why?" doesn't present any new translating problems. I guess it just depends on what type of "why" they use. There's ?????, "what's wrong?", ????, "Why/how?", or the more urgent ????, "What for!?" Though it's probably just not on their list of priorities.Originally Posted by Lexa

This is solely my opinion, but I agree with this statment. Now I am not FFXI bashing, but I had already quit for 6 months because this game was getting real stale to me. I came back for WoTG and have had nothing but letdowns. I would like to see a real effort put into this update. I am keeping my fingers crossedOriginally Posted by Sykes

Hey, I'm attached to the game too. Otherwise I wouldn't still be playing after 4 years. And you're absolutely right, when they say "we're considering adding this" or "we're going to add this" it's not unreasonable to think that they might ACTUALLY fucking "add this". The gap between our viewpoints is simply that I believe that they will "add this" eventually, whereas the vast majority of people posting in this thread seem to believe that they will "add this" right fucking now, simply because they mentioned it recently. I know we may have some newer players here, so let me share some observations over the last 4 years with you, to help set expectations.Originally Posted by Tomino
The FFXI Update Schedule
New Expansion: Approximately once every 12-18 months.
Initial Fixes to New Expansion: Will occur anywhere between 2-10 times for up to 1 month after initial release of new expansion.
New Quests & Missions: Initially are added with each expansion, and are added 5-10 times over the life of each expansion. Mission (story) updates are always small chunks of the story, i.e. no more than 5 discrete "missions" that go into your log. There will be no more than 1-3 mission-related fights per update. It will take at least 6 updates until the story for each expansion is complete. People think the ToAU mission update scheme is a new annoyance? You are wrong-missions have been delivered in this manner all the way back to Zilart and even the original Country missions, it's just that many of us were either too low level or not even playing yet for that to be relevant to us.
New Content (events, bc/ks/enms, new NMs, etc): Will occur 2-6 times for each expansion. Ones you care about (because nobody cares about them all) will occur 1-2 times per expansion. Additionally, endgame content will almost always be delayed until 6-12 months after the initial release of the expansion (Sea, Salvage, Limbus, Dynamis, lolEinherjar, virtually anything endgame people care about was NOT released until several months after expansion release).
New Gear: Will be added at the beginning of each expansion. Will also be added over the life of each expansion 1-4 more times. Overall, at best there will be 1-3 new endgame-worthy pieces of gear per job. For some jobs there will be 0.
In-game Events: Will occur every 1-3 months. Unless this is your first trip through FFXI, you will generally not care. You may find 1-2 events per year you enjoy. Regardless, this is considered an "update" and generally takes the place of development you would prefer being done.
Bug Fixes/Rebalances/Game Mechanic changes: This refers to Ulli/AV/Salvage/Besieged/Assault etc. fixes, anything that isn't working right that the player base is bitching about. This will "officially" occur no more than 1-2 times per year. Unofficially (the ninjafixes) will occur at least every update, but then we have to fucking figure out that LBC is no longer suicide by biting the bullet ourselves, for example. Additionally, these changes will NEVER occur less than 6 months after initial release & initial bug fixes. Unless something simply doesn't work at ALL, SE prefers to implement and see if it's "really" a problem before addressing it.
And finally, the ever-popular...
Job Fixes/Rebalances/Buffs/Nerfs: At BEST this will occur 1-2 times per year. It will NEVER occur more than that, and it will ALWAYS take at least 6-12 months after a significant change (a new job is added, 2 hand weapon calculations are changed, merits are added, etc) for further "refinements" to be added. The only exception is if it is a nerf. Because by god, if something gets buffed too much, we can't Possibly let the playerbase enjoy it for more than 3 days.
This is how it is. Yes, you'll get what you want. If you're willing to wait 1+ years. I enjoy the game, I have stuff I can do while I'm waiting, so I'm ok with that. Should it be this way? I think we'll all argue that with the $ they've made off of us they should be able to assign more than 2 developers and a retarted monkey to work on FFXI, but that's simply not the case. Either reset your expectations or move on, because it's not going to change.
My main problem is that there are updates they have been promising for months (and some for years) and all we are getting is updates about fellows, caps, and useless things that they call "changes" when they're not really changes. So whoo. Now we can watch our party die to chariots so we can capture them and send them to fight in an arena.
I think the main thing most of you defending SE are missing is not that we don't acknowledge they are listening... it's that they listen to the bullshit changes like "give us dance emotes" and not to the real changes like "give us something different that's worth our time". Seriously.

I always figured the problem wasn't so much in how to translate "Why?" but the fact that it's an open-ended question that isn't going to be easily answered in auto-translate most times.Originally Posted by CeridwenOfKujata
Except, we won't know if they've been listening until the actual update itself. They've told us that they'd make additions/changes to the jobs/new avatars/etc. at Fanfest. I don't remember them mentioning updating Pankration at fanfest, or making changes to the NPCs, or anything like that.Originally Posted by kuronosan
I think maybe SE was using their promises at the Fanfest as like a preliminary update notice, and now they are filling us in about all the stuff they are doing that they didn't mention at Fanfest so they can show off how big this update is going to be.
Also, I think most of the people defending SE realize that not everything that they post is going to affect everyone or make everyone happy. People get pissed when they log in and find that the update note posted wont affect them in the least.
Case in point, here's a post from this thread, which doesn't affect Sath in any way:
And here are two posts from a thread that delivers content relevent to his interests:Originally Posted by SathFenrir

The same can be said for for instance "How?" though. I don't speak a lick of Japanese, but have succesfully held long conversations with Japanese (I'm from EU so I used to play in their primetime a lot before I switched time zones) purely through auto-translate, so it's always been bugging me. :/Originally Posted by Alistaire

(tho, not how).Originally Posted by CeridwenOfKujata
or, they could just ignore the repercussions of adding that term and use the generic ???or ?????to cover it.. its one of those things i guess...
another puzzle with the translator is why Relic WS isn't listed in it.
