I worked at Gamestop for a year back in 2003-2004, and worked there as well this past holiday season...Gamestop employees are allowed to check out games/DVDs for 4 days. This can be used or new. I always felt bad checking out a new game so I tried to stick to used games, or if we had guts already of a new game so I wouldn`t open a new one.

The disk doesn't get used, it's touched (on the edges, I was always very specific during training of new employees to not touch the optical reading side of the disk for any reason) for all of 5 seconds, it's as good as it was from the factory.

What has GameStop done with its policies to earn the trust in the 'most gutted games are as good as new' statement? I don't shop there for a very specific list of reasons. The unpleasantness of the experience is paramount amongst them, and the gutting of games and selling of them at full price is just one of a very long list of irksome practices that make GameStop just reek. It's not as if somehow tomorrow they announced they're dropping the price of gutted games by 5% that suddenly I'm going to start shopping there. Any store that puts up hurdles in what should be me having fun with my hobby is due for negativity anytime their practices get discussed.

Marketing requirements. That's EB/GS corporate's issue, not the local store management (by and large).

I like the people in the one near me, and all. I've never had any sort of bad experience, but I guess that's because I don't live in a big city, so it's not it's own separate store or anything. It's in the mall. So, eh. I don't know really.

I've worked at gamestop off and on for the past 5 years and we never gutted 20 copies of any single game. One copy of each game always gets gutted; that's it. If you're buying a gutted copy, it was probably the very last one in the store. Sorry if that's already been stated.

If some fat ass did have his greasy fingerprints all over your game, it only takes a couple of minutes to squirt some windex on that disk and wipe it clean. I'd only complain if there were scratches. I realize one can argue, "But I just bought this game new. I shouldn't have to clean it." All I can say to that is go get laid.

The few times I can remember buying a gutted copy, I'm fairly sure they told me it was the last copy at least which made it a non-issue to me.

And in Gamestop's defense, their employees are generally pretty nice based on the ones I've encountered. It's just the gutting that irks me.

honestly ive never seen a store gut 20 copies of a game, if they do, id agree thats pretty frickin ridiculous. we only gut 1 copy and all the stores around here gut at most 2 copies or so for "new release" sections. we killed those sections cause no one really cared anyways and it made for more gutted copies.

if i sell you a gutted copy its because it literrally is the very last copy of the game i have. ill let you know that when i sell it to you, and it'll be in perfect condition.

It's been open and touched, not new. When someone touches it (most likely mishandling it and touching the bottom), its value has decreased, and it should not be sold at full price.

I actually lucked out on my "NEW" car. When I picked out a car I want, the dealer showed me a stack of invoices, and the one I had picked just happened to be on the car. When they rollled it out for me, it had less than half a mile on it. I was stoked.
