All that board punching though, for what ultimately, after a certain point you're not going to be hitting someone more effectively because your bones are stronger.

I'm not sure if I feel that the harder your bones are, the harder you hit. There's so many other factors in the mechanics of a punch, that the toughness of the bones on the very edge of your knuckles (the only part you're conditioning) play such a miniscule factor in it all, especially with gloves, 4 oz or not. Not like your bones give, I'd say doing something to strengthen your wrists/grip would be a lot more productive, as the solidity of your fist itself (your grip) and the strength of your wrist, not the bones involved in it, effect the punch moreso than anything. But yeah, DERAILLLLLLL.........so back to Daydreamer's discussion.Originally Posted by noblemountain

I know i have worked up wicked calices on my feet from running all track season with out shoes. Turns out i end up running better with out shoes just from me being able to feel the ground better, Then again i run 400m hurdels and steeple chase, so thats really a diffrent story the sprinting.
GOD I miss my foot calluses, I used to freak out people by jumping up and down on rough ass gravel (I mean like, the kind of shit you find at the end of someones drive way in the country, 1-3 inch diameter hunks of rock) in the summer time, or putting out cigars and shit barefoot, nevermind crashing through the woods like that.
Making your knuckles harder won't really affect how hard your punch is, a simple fine tuning of the technique, strengthening your wrist, those things will help you punch harder.
Getting steel bars implanted in the bones of your hands would too, but bone is only so heavy, and isn't going to get much heavier, nevermind that it's already hard enough to break other bones when struck obliquely against them.
I started to get into the knuckle toughening thing, then I just decided that punching better would do more, and my knuckles only needed to be tough enough to not break if slammed repeatedly into a skull.
Rerail: The dry towel is really the best option unless you wish to callus the hell out of your hands, I have had my feet so tough I could walk out from a cool floor directly only midsummer, noon, clear day, texas black tar asphalt and stand there, but I also had almost half an inch of rough skin on them.
I self condition daily, it's good for your hair, makes it nice and healthy, I recommend it.
