    Browser can't access Internet

    First off I'm posting from my iPhone so excuse me for anything out of place.

    So tnight I'm randomly browsing and I decide to install iTunes. I download it and restart my pc when it asks. When I get back on I find that all of my tabs all look like I was trying to connect with my modem unplugged, but I'm still connected fine on XI, vent, aim and IRC. I shutdown and reset my modem and router but that didn't fix it. I uninstall iTunes and everything it came with but that didn't work either.

    I'm at a loss for ideas now... I have no idea what would even cause this. My connection is fine and I'm connected to everything non-browser based. Its just when I try to go to a site everything is "server not found" both in ie and firefox.

    Halp.

    Oh ps I connected my iphone to my wireless network too before this started happening if that means anything.

    Go into the browser settings and make sure it's set to "Connect via LAN" and not "Dial a connection". Also make sure you have no proxy settings. If you do, just disable them.

    Tried that, everything is still configured as normal. If it helps any, the error I'm getting in ie is "res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm". I googled it and found a few threads with people having the same problem, but the fixes they did didn't work for me. A lot of it had to do with phishing filters and firewalls but unless iTunes changed a setting on its own I know that isn't the case. For the record firefox doesn't give an error like ie does, just says server not found.

    Pretty close to just reformatting but that's such a huge pain that if there's a way to fix this I want to try.

    That error makes it sound like something is blocking your browser from communicating with the outside. First of all, within Firefox when the page fails to load it should have a link to "diagnose my problem" or something like that, try it.

    Next, disable your firewall. If it works after that, make sure your browser is listed on the "allow" list. Maybe iTunes messed something up in there. You've probably done this, but disable the security in IE and all that.

    Finally, open up your network connections, right click on your active connection, click properties, scroll to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" click properties, and make sure your IP and DNS settings are set to "obtain automatically" and that no static values are set. This probably isn't the case since you can connect fine to everything else but... worth a shot.

    If all else fails... try uninstalling IE6/7/whatever you have and redownloading and reinstalling it. That's all I can think of.

    So, I'm back on my PC now... you wouldn't believe how I got it to work again. I knew all my firewall stuff was disabled from before, but I figured maybe if I enabled it then disabled it again something would click. Turns out that ENABLING the firewall caused both IE and FF to start working again.

    Weird. =\
