I got laid off.
It was cool.
Grats on the Mac book Air though.
Nothing sexy. I work in the operations side of the US and Canadian Apple Retail stores. One aspect of my job is that if you go to any North American retail store and we are stocked out of what you came to buy then there is a chance that I might be to blame.Originally Posted by Royal

She's still cute. :ashira: However she has a BF but I predict it won't last another year. Plus I'm dating someone myself. (That might not last another year too. lol) At any rate, I told myself that I wouldn't date people I work with any more. Of course my penis keeps making me break my vows.Originally Posted by Takiwaki

Thanks. But unfortunately it's not totally free. I will have to pay income taxes on it next year.Originally Posted by mootsfox
I'm typing on it right now. The SSD is pretty cool. Totally silent machine. And boot ups are super quick. Of course I don't have anything loaded on it. I am not sure if I'm going to keep it. I already have a company issued Macbook Pro which is more powerful and has a bigger screen so I doubt that I will make the MBA my work computer. I could make it my primary home computer and get rid of my PC tower that I bought before I started drinking the Apple kool-aid.
The other option is to score points towards being the best uncle in the world. My niece is going to graduate HS in another year so I'm considering letting her have it for college. My sister is divorced and her ex is a deadbeat. I know she can't afford to buy my niece a decent laptop for school and this is more than decent. I could play with it for another year then give it to her for graduation.
Thanks. Good luck on finding a job. I got laid off twice: from NEC and from Siemens. The first one was expected and we had a year's notice. I was fine with it. The second one felt like a firing. Got called into the office of my VP out of the blue and was told by some German guy who they flew in to chop heads. Then security escorted me out. Even my director got the boot. In the years after, as I was a ronin looking for a company with a future, my ex-coworkers told me many times that they were hiring again and they could get me back in. I never applied even when I had no job or was floating around temp jobs. I'm still bitter about how my layoff felt like a firing.Originally Posted by Heian
Life is peaks and valleys though. A few years ago I was calling in sick to work so I could make some Dynamis runs for some AF2 armor that I would never get. I was getting fat and lazy. Not knowing if I would still be employed in the next two years. Now life is good. (well, mostly)![]()
(I have to admit that I do miss FFXI sometimes and miss the days when I could play all day every day.)
You should totally delete MacOS off that thing and install some flavor of Linux or BSD on it, then take it to work like that and get recordings of everyone's reactions. Then put the video on YouTube.![]()
A bet a MBA doesn't look as cute cooking you breakfast the next morning in the nude.Originally Posted by Norelco

Now install Windows on it so it does more than look pretty!
Ohhhhh
I think it's awesome how Apple cares about their employees so much.
Unfortunately, I wish more American-based companies were like them and actually gave a shit.

I disagree- I went mac for a long time. I went back to Linux. My roommate has been a mac guy for years and Leopard's bullshit is making him seriously consider doing the same.Originally Posted by Saphirea
Maybe its because the majority of my time on a computer is spent using photoshop and illustrator, which could very well be the reason why.
Also, it plays WoW pretty damn well too.
I had to choose between Mac and PC for my latest desktop.... It was tough, but I eventually went with a PC (because its waaay cheaper for the equivalent parts, if you're building it yourself), but got a lovely giant Mac monitor. Best of both worlds! Games might run weirdly on it (I havent installed anything, so I dunno), but mmm, Photoshop. I've been trapped with just my Mac laptop for the last 2 months though... I miss it. ; ;
How well does it play wow? I was looking to either upgrade my PC for about 500-700$, or drop money into straight out buying a PC, mac, or laptop/macbook (if i can get loans for one with school loans). All I do nowadays on my PC is listen to music, browse forums, and play wow... but i play alot of wow, and i need it to be played damn good by my computer. I rarely play UT3 anymore so it's no longer about compatibility issues.Originally Posted by Saphirea
my work laptop and my macbook pro are almost identical as far as config.
my mac kicks the everliving crap out of it performance wise, I have everything set at absolute highs and still get better performance.
2.2ghz macbook pro with 2gb of ram and the 128mb gf8600m runs WoW slower with low detail settings at 1280x1024 than my Athlon 64 3500+ with 1GB of RAM and an AGP Radeon X800 Pro does at the same resolution with much higher texture quality, aniso and antialiasing enabled in addition to all other detail settings maxed. Kind of sucks, but oh well.
I keep thinking that I'm missing some settings inside OS X somewhere, because it feels like this laptop should kick the everliving shit out of my 2 year old desktop.
Do you seriously get called a "cunt, bitch, or slut"? I can't imagine going into any store to buy something and be so angry if they didn't have it in stock that I would lash out at a salesperson like that. What is wrong with people? As for your supply, all I know is that supply should finally be catching up next week. That thing sold a lot better than Apple anticipated. In fact, most of the last few product launches have been selling a lot better than anticipated. It's to the point now that we are setting crazy high sales goals on each new product and it's still not enough. Everyone's drinking the Apple kool-aid.Originally Posted by elphaba

Well, to be fair, like all companies your mileage might vary. As you can see from elphaba, working for Apple ain't so good sometimes. There are even a few people in my department that are burned out and dislike their job. And from what I read, those people who work close to Steve Jobs have it pretty rough. He might be able to pull out the best in you but he'll also pull out blood, sweat and tears in the process.Originally Posted by kuronosan

That's a little weird, unless the desktop's OS has been reinstalled more recently. Laptop ram can be slower sometimes, or maybe WoW just likes Radeon cards a lot more than GForce. It's running natively on MacOS, not through a Windows emulator, right?Originally Posted by netz
Nope! I haven't reinstalled XP on that machine ever since purchasing a legitimate license for it... probably early in 2006. I got the MacBook in July 2007. I am using the native client.Originally Posted by Charla

If I was running XP on this machine there probably wouldn't be any issues with WoW performance being disappointing >.> Don't get me wrong; the game actually runs pretty well, but it doesn't knock the socks off my desktop machine like I expected it would, and it manages to look worse somehow.
