I have both an electric rotary and a manual razor. The issue is i miss spots with the manual but the rotary electric hurts for some damn reason n leaves me with ingrown hair >_< Can i use shaving cream with the electric to help or what? I need tips.

Electric is more for maintenance and should use it only if you shave every day. The problem is with electric is that if the hair gets too long, the spinning blades tend to wrap/pull the hair out rather than trim it. So, use the manual once and try and get everything, take a bit longer to do it if need be. Then just maintain every day after with the electric. G2G

I would straight razor across my carotid before ever buying a $800 electric razor; it seems a bit extravagent. My manual Gillette Fusion works wonders for me.

Regular razor only. All electrics are a step down from something like a Mach 3, end of discussion. It sounds like you're just not using the "manual" razor right. I shave every morning with a Mach 3 and I don't use shaving cream, only warm water, face is as smooth as the forehead of this whale like creature from Bubble Bobble .

    Re: Shaving

I get horrible razor burn with mach 3/fusion for whatver reason, on the ends of my upper lip. Electric is the only thing that prevents this from happening, though of course my shave isnt as close. Havent used a real razor in years ><

ever since i got out of the army i refuse to be "clean shaven". i got beard and mustache trimmers and just cut it down to 5 o'clock shadow every morning. my girlfriend likes the look as well as i like being lazy.

    Re: Shaving

I've had my mach 3 for ages, and just got one of those electric ones w/ the 3 things in the triangle shape. If i keep up w/ it every day the electric works well, but leaves w/ a vaugely noticable shadow. If i let it go for 2 long, it feels like its yanking my face off. I tend to use the mach 3 the most now due to ease....

Electric kinda out of the question because shaving kinda awkward out of the shower o.O
What do you guys do, put a towel under your legs and hope it catches everything?

    Re: Shaving

Shaving in the shower (hot shower) works wonders -- I do it after I shampoo, by that time the heat/steam has opened up my pores and makes it extremely easy.

I don't use an electric, well not a good one anyway (i have some dinky one I use to clean up if I missed something). I used the Fusion, but that thing cuts too much of my skin, so I have recently been using mach 3. As was mentioned earlier, just pay better attention and use a blade versus electric.

Quick question -- whenever I shave (and I mean whenever), a day or two later I get bumps that look like mini-pimples that hurt like hell. I've done everything, I can't go like three days after a shave without these popping up. I always use shaving cream, I've tried using a new razor, rubbing after shave (lotion or alcohol based), using aloe vera, etc etc. It only happens on my neck though, but it seriously happens every time, and I have no idea how to deal with it. Any helpful suggestions?

    Absolutely correct.

Warm showers are the best, i usually wash my face before i shave, this causes the hair strands to be softened and like what Tyr said in the above quote for the pores to be opened up, all adds up for a much more easier shave.

And definately manual gear is always better than auto gear.
    Stick to manual shaver.

    Re: Shaving

You want to put hot water on your face before shaving completly, but if your just trimming up a beard or goatee, you want it dry.

Use razor for complete shaves, electric isnt that good for that job.

Yeah, its all about the shower. Otherwise mach 3 makes my face look like rocky against ivan drago.

Philips Philishave was also fun to use in shower.

So, while we're on the topic of shaving, what's the secret to shaving your bodangle without cutting your dabongle? Closest I can comfortably get with a body trimmer even with a guard leaves it looking very uneven, although an unmowed lawn is certainly is better than the amazon rainforest.
