Alot of bottled water is from municipal sources. Most of them even say it on the bottle itself. Bottled water isnt even that great for you either. Not really sure what to trust for clean water since who knows how good the filters in the Brita type of water filters are. But it definatly tastes better from bottled water/Brita so I'll just take those.Originally Posted by Slapper
I hire poor Rhodesian children to cry in tanks which then are boiled by them in furnaces fueled by Coal Dust. After letting it cool I sample a batch and decide if it is worthy of being drank by me, if not all 100 gallons are poured out in front of the children.
I've used Homemade RODI (Reverse Osmosis De-Ionized) water for the last couple of years.
I had my water tested (well water) and it came out to like a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) Content of 94 Parts Per Million. Which is really high. My RODI takes the TDS to 0. I don't think my this of thing mentioned here would be picked up by a TDS Meter.
They had an interesting conversation on my local radio about this article this morning as well. A speaker from Columbia University called in and see this was a very serious problem for infants and babies, but not a serious problem for adults. She said these problems have existed for 25 years, but are just now coming to light.
2 parts hydrogen 1 part oxygen.
but seriously, if having all of this shit in your water hasn't done much to you up until now why will knowing about it change anything?
also, how does all of this shit get into the water in the first place?
The problem is apparently coming from excess medication that is expelled from the body when you use the bathroom, and people basically just flushing excess meds down the toilet.
And like I said before, it probably doesn't much if any affect on grown people. But it is serious when you look at babies and very young children.

But then again my city has been rated as having some of the best tasting tap water in the world.
Something about natural filters for our ground water or some shit.
I must say though, I'd take our tap water over bottled shit. Cheaper and doesn't have that 'manufactured' taste to it, yaknowhatImean?
Well actually I buy vended water and use one of those machines that make the water cold as shit. I dunno about your water, but here in southern california the tap water tastes like shit, you fill a cup with water and it takes awhile to clear up.Originally Posted by Maxxthepenguin

I drink from the tap a lot when I'm at home in Memphis, but where I go to school the tap water tastes like ass. So generally I'm drinking bottles unless it's Kool-Aid 8) .
My water runs off a cistern, so im probably drinking worse, and dont really care. Rain water tastes pretty good though ona cold day.
I'm surprised nobody here lives in an area without public water provided. Like in my old house in Connecticut we simply had a well of some sort that provided our water iirc.
Look one post above you, lol.Originally Posted by Maguspk

Ive lived in rural areas on farm like houses/properties my whole life, so it's nothing im not used to, lol. (drinking non public water that is)

Meh, for the most part, city water is required by federal law to be treated. The trick is, there's at least 5 methods for treating water to ensure potability (that means it's safe to drink). The most common/cheapest is chlorination (reason why some tap water tastes with a nice wang of bleach), with bromination/UV gaining in popularity.
Now, in most areas, the reason why you get particulates has to do with the surrounding aquifer/ geology. For instance, a well in my area (boondockistan, N Central Florida) would have a sulfur hint (bacteria/hard water) and a high amount of carbonates (limestone, duh!).
In reality, 100% pure water is worse for you than civic tap. If you try to drink distilled water, you will cause your bones to leech minerals.
I just kinda grew into the business (family owns a wastewater/water consulting business). Only reasons to have a RODI system is if your well water is coming out super nasty or personal preference. Me? I'm happy with aerating my water in a pitcher then cooling it. HEY! It's the same thing as the fancy bottled spring water!

Yup, the only reason I have the RODI is b/c I keep Coral Reef Tanks and using Tap Water for fill up/water changes is basically a "Kiss of Death" for the harder to keep corals. I need to keep Iron, Copper, Phosphates, and Nitrates out of the tank water as much as possible.Only reasons to have a RODI system is if your well water is coming out super nasty or personal preference.
My well water is bad with sulfur gas as well. It dissipates quickly but the sulfur smell sucks. We don't drink anything out of the tap. It's either RODI, or from the fridge which is carbon filtered.
Also, here is a sense of the scale that I saw posted on a Reef Tank Forum I frequent during the day at work:
"If you drink 1bil liter of water containing 10ppb pharmaceutical residue, you will also drink 10bil picogram (10mg) of the residue.
In order for this to occur, you would need to drink the recommended 8 cups of water per day for a mere 1,447,518 years! (1bil liters = 4,226,752,838 cups/8cups = 528,344,105 days/ 365days = 1,447,518 years)."
My grandparents had a well, but they somehow got the water to their faucets without the use of buckets. I think it was called a pump. They also had a water softener and other crap.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX
