The key difference is that he was trying to deny everything, saying he's not gay, wasn't soliciting gay sex in a public bathroom, etc. etc.

If he'd owned up to it the piling on wouldn't have really happened, like in this case.

Unless you think Jason Giambi owned up to his mistakes as well, then Spitzer didn't own up to anything here either. If someone is going to own up to a mistake, they at least need to say what the mistake is they're owning up to.

He was involved, i.e. some form of pimp's pimp or something, as in organized crime, not going out and buying a hooker.

I don't think thats the case. He was a repeat customer.

Guns aren't designed to incapacitate without killing. If we wanted cops to only incapacitate, we'd give them tazers and maybe that active denial heat ray thing, then wring our hands when they get slaughtered in a driveby.

He really had no choice.. and it's not going to stop the possibility of federal criminal charges for the interstate transport thing either. Only way out of that is probably to cop a plea deal.

The reply from Charla was read, as well as your rebuttal post. However, your reply was posted as I was typing mine. To clarify any animosity, my reply was stated with the strict definition of the word "ignorance" in mind and in no way was intended to offend or question you. If you are in the Law Enforcement profession and have a point of view on the issue of utilization of a firearm, then I welcome a discussion on the matter. If you've not been trained on such, then you could not know what a deadly-force encounter entails simply by proxy.

I see CNN mentioned it in the resignation story, has anyone else noticed news stations reluctant to mention that part?

I agree with Shuemue that we should probably be keeping the gun debate out of the Spitzer thread (at least now that there's actually movement in the Spitzer story).

Completely agree, setting aside the inevitability of impeachment and upcoming criminal charges, you can't survive politically with this level of hypocrisy.

I don't think its a conscious effort to ignore it, its just the Spitzer story is so juicy, its sex/comedy/drama/politics all rolled into one, so naturally its gonna get the lion's share of media attention
