Hello all,
Looking for the method used to force check/update on FFXI. I saw something about change a file and do a check. Which file is changed? and how do you force the check? Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
-Nicholette

I know this is a bit after-the-fact since it's a day late and all...Originally Posted by Nicholette
I doubt you want to check everything and would like to try to download an xi patch ahead of time. At some point during downtime (usually 2hrs or so before scheduled to end), 'Check Version' appears on the XI front page where 'Play' usually is. That'll patch you so you're ready to go when the server go on. At least, theoretically... for smaller updates you can usually get it done in time, but even though I started 90min early last night it wasn't finished until about 3 hours after the servers were on.
Except like yesterday when check version wasnt up until a half hour until servers came up and most people spent all night downloading.
Me on the other hand, did the file check around 3 hours before server-up and got mine done in 30 min.
Anyway, the way you do it, is on the main screen (the screeen where it shows all your acct names)
Click "Check files"
Use the up/down key next to "Playonline" to change it to "Final Fantasy" and check.
I didnt have to change any files to get it to check them (though i have brandson's maps and icons so it might have found a difference there)
I tried check files up to 6 times before you could do it from the "Play" Button later, it would complete it's scan and say nothing new was needed. I then purposely changed/renamed some files, and still nothing. How were those people, especially some of those dataminers getting it so early?
I moved an entire ROM folder to my desktop and it started it, but then check version popped up 10 min later.Try just moving a large batch of files? Maybe it'll realize "oh hey all of the mithra .dats are missing maybe we should fix that" Not really 100% sure what triggers it though.
Probably don't want to waste time re-downloading that ROM folder. You'd have to re-download entire zone .dats and everything from that expansion installation disc. Why not just pick one, random, remote little file buried deep in one of the ROM folders and move that?Originally Posted by Falisa
I was saying this in reference to Koyangi's statement, as I got the same problem. I moved 1 file off of the Final Fantasy folder and it would tell me everything is fine when I did the check file. I moved a smaller folder off to the desktop and it worked.Originally Posted by Khamsin
Why, oh why would you want to fix this? lol. You could instantaneously eliminate 90% of non-HNM claiming drama by just wiping them off the face of the earth. ...Or the manthra, at least. ...Ohohohoho, but our WotG windy storyline brings that into question...Originally Posted by Falisa
I have only one change which is the Brandson Text files and it picks it up and allows me to get the download via the force check early. I only do it on big update patches like the other day. Took me 45mins or so to do a full check and download the new files and I was updated 90mins before the server came up. Was one of the first online in Lakshmi.
