I tried this but they still showed up on online matches. I don't know why.

Ya items are fucked up online. I think it randomly chooses someone's item choices in brawls, which is frustrating to say the least. I kept trying to make it all pokeballs and never succeeded..gave up after like 8 matches of trying to turn all items off except pokeball.

Stop QQ'ing about Wolf's Final Smash: all, I repeat ALL, Final Smashes can be avoided somehow. Even PK Meteor or whatever it is called can be dodged (although it's pretty rare).

Final smashes aren't going to be enabled in tourneys at all. They add an element of randomness far greater than that which is added by some of the banned stages in melee.

Oops, forgot about Kirby altogether. I guess he's the only exception, even Capt. Olimar's can be dodged IF you have a character that can maintain altitude for about 3secs (when the ship goes up) and stay off screen for the massive impact.

every FS is pretty easy to dodge in a 1v1 situation i'd think.. in FFA its too hectic to know whats going on. someone can knock you into the FS, etc.

kirbys is definitely dodgeable. i was right next to him and i didn't even go in

By dodgable do you mean "air dodge at the right moment" or "it whiffed me but I have no idea why"?

Aye, we had a Kirby ditto and we got FS's back to back, and both of us dodged them. I didn't even try very hard to dodge it. Air dodge seems to do the trick since an air dodge is longer than a normal dodge.

Another way to do it, which may or may not be harder depending on the situation is relying on grabbing the ledge at the right time it seems.

I've been doing this. Also been better at avoiding horrible death thanks to this thread, though it may have been because it was 3man fight as opposed to just one opponent.
