With BLM sub, SCH gets an additional bonus to black magic when in DarK Arts. this bonus appears to significantly increase both MACC and MATT. It should be noted that this is in addition to the MAB that /BLM gives to any job. This information was released at the Osaka Altana Festival and appears on the official Japanese FFXI website.
Is there any truth to this? I tried testing the WHM part and my Defense went up precisely 0, which makes me think this is a pile of crap.
Sounds like someone discovered Job Traits.
shouldn't this be easy as hell to test though to figure out if its true? sch/blm and rdm/sch (with same elemental skill and no other gear/mab and try to keep int the same nuke same mobs. If its true then sch will nuke higher (all things being the same) if its not true they should hit the same dmg.

Technically true, as a White Mage sub will give you more Vitality and the Magic Defense Bonus Trait.

False. Scholar gets Magic Attack Bonus II at 60 over other subs, but there is no additional increase because the Scholar is using a Black Mage subjob and Dark Arts. Dark Arts gives no bonus to Magical Attack and gives the same amount of skill, either way.[/quote:2kp8g59c]

That's -43 there. I think I miscalculated by including Concealing Cuffs (-5) and Goliard Trews (-5) which I'm still looking for. That would give you -46. Then add -4 from possible merits and that will give you -50.

SCH doesn't get too much in terms of gear so I figured filling slots with - enmity gear is most useful for now.

Had a look into it, and at great length, I found this to be the absolute BEST a Scholar can achieve. Keep in mind that if indeed at -50 Enmity, you have half hate from everything, -66 a third, and -75 a quarter, and that the purpose of this setup is to cure as much as possible before drawing hate...

    • Weapon : Apollo's Staff (10% Curing Potency, MND+2)
      Sub : Staff Strap (Enmity -2, MP+20)
      Ammo : Hedgehog Bomb (Enmity -1, MP+30)
Head : Hydra Beret (Enmity -8, MP recovered whilst healing +2)
Body : Hydra Doublet (Enmity -9, MP +40, Evasion+10, Enhancement: 'Refresh' [30 minutes, 20 charges])
Hands : Hydra Gloves (Enmity -5, Evasion +6, MP recovered whilst healing +1)
Legs : Hydra Brais (Enmity -6, Evasion +10, MP recovered whilst healing +1)
Feet : Arborist Nails (Enmity -5, MP+18, MP recovered whilst healing +1)
      Back : Mahatma Cape (Enmity -6, MP+32)
Waist : Theta Sash (Enmity -5)
Neck : Fenrir Torque (Daytime: MP+30, Nighttime: Enmity -3)
      Ear1 : Novia Earring (Enmity -7, Evasion +7)
      Ear2 : Delta Earring (Enmity -3)
      Ring1 : Trooper's Ring (Enmity -4)
      Ring2 : Tamas Ring (Enmity -3, MP+30, MND+5)

Now, this is the absolute BEST gear that is available in the game that a Scholar can equip for maximum Enmity Down, and also it comes with a vast amount of Evasion Bonus too. This set carries:
    • - 10% Curing Potency
      - MND +7
      - MP recovered whilst healing +5 (although it would be wise to switch to something else whilst resting <.<)
      - 10 Hours of 'Refresh' Enhancement
      - Nighttime: MP+170, Daytime: MP+200.
      - Evasion +33
      - Enmity -67

Which puts it just above the 1/3 hate threshold. Add 4 Enmity Down merits and add a Mushroom Stew to this calculation, and you are looking at gaining MP+40, MP recovered whilst healing +4, MND +4, and Enmity -8 (combined) which will bring you out at Enmity -75 for Scholar. At this point, all cures will retain a quarter of their natural hate. This. Is. .

Ignoring the incredibly impossible Emnity set to get (cuz 4 Hydra pieces from the least done Dynamis is lol, not to mention the HQ Mahatma Cape; other than that, the rest are somewhat easy to obtain if you are in an end-game linkshell), a more fitting setup would be exactly the same as stated above, but with the following changes:

    • Head : Errant Hat (Enmity -5 [Inexpensive]) / Yigit Turban (Enmity -5 [Assaults, plus hMP]) / Mahatma Hat (Enmity -6 [Relatively Expensive])
Body : Errant Houpellande (Enmity -3 [Inexpensive]) / Mahatma Houpellande (Enmity -4 [Expensive]) / Goliard Siao (Enmity -5 [Nyzul, excellent Body piece])
      Hands : Scholar's Bracers (Enmity -2 [Free!]) / Concealing Gloves (Enmity -5 [Pso'Xja Lv40 cap NM])
Legs : Errant Slops (Enmity -3 [Inexpensive]) / Mahatma Slops (Enmity -4 [Expensive]) / Goliard Trews (Enmity -4 [Nyzul])
Back : Sapient Cape (Enmity -2 [BCNM60: Shots in the Dark]) / Talisman Cape (Enmity -2 [Inexpensive, Enhancement])

It is relatively easy for a Scholar, if you want to apply and invest in this set, to obtain between -45 and -57 in gears, -4 in Merits, and then -4 in Food.

Personally, if you can reach the Enmity -50 threshold, go for it. If the most you can achieve is -59, I'd wait until you could achieve -66 somehow before attempting to invest to that point, if indeed the Enmity is correct as far as 50/66/75/99+ goes. A good sump of the awesome setup, indeed 28 points worth alone come from the Hydra gears, and to replace those as best you could you'd still lose 6 points, meaning the best you could achieve without the Hydra gears is the -66 Threshold, and that's WITH food.

Very interesting stuff though :> Best I can get at the moment is Enmity -40 with the gears I have (Buccaneer's Belt ftw lawlz). Perhaps if I could somehow get a Novia (teehee Novio Cor, Novia SCH?!?!), I'd push for the -50 mark and make a build.

And you know if you're going to propose a theory of maximum curing before capping CE, the number of how much hp you can cure before reaching that will go beyond your imagination.

Suppose a WHM with -0 enmity can cure (1-4) to anyone for 5,000 HP before getting his CE capped.
with -50 enmity, you can cure 10k
    with -66 enmity, ~15k

Its accepted that every -1 enmity is roughly 1% enmity. So -50 emnity is roughly -50% enmity generated.

Really didn't want to start a new thread for this, so I thought I'd ask here.

Anyone on RDM/SCH try Bio III? Since the Dark Magic Skill can go much higher with /SCH, I was wondering if Bio III could exceed 8 HP/Tick with high enough skill.

RDM/SCH is probably one of the most awesome subs for the job IMO. I can max out my drk skill at 288. Im not too fimiliar with the dark tier so I dont know if that breaks it.

I use this sub all the time. Casting in the wrong art doesnt affect RDM really cus they
naturally have fastcast to cover and high MP management already to cover extra cost. And they dont have much spells that cost tons of MP in the first place. Given drk skill at 288 the ability to freely spam aspir and drain like a regular blm more than makes up for it.

You also get full access to the -na spells, albeiet on 2 min timers but you dont ever use charges on rdm/sch cus its just not necessary. Nice to have but not necessary.

Not only that, but once you Addendum, you don't have to do it again, unless you switch arts. So if you are only healing or casting light magic, you Addendum 1x and never have to worry about it again.

sadly you wont get Viruna or Erase RDM/SCH

i was testing out RDM/SCH at JoL (add party) and this became a problem. Viruna is the worse of the 2 really, but you don't actually have to use it often..

RDM/SCH is still nice because you get both (a decent range of the) -na spells and Drain/Aspir

If say, double ice weather is already present in a zone and I cast Thunderstorm will I have:
    A) Double ice and single thunder
    B) Single of both ice and thunder
    C) Single thunder

I tried searching but got some conflicting information.

Re: Scholar Discussion #3 (post March patch)

I found out that a lot of the testing I did with Weather spells affected a majority of what I thought would happen anyway. The concept of Scholar is that it is unlike the other mage jobs for the simple fact that each mage job has a purpose, or given trait that they focus on more than others. Blm has Nuking. Rdm has Enfeebling. Whm has Curing. Smn has... Summoning. Bard has Singing skills... Based on these values, a lot of the job-specific equipment enhances these aspects of the job to which they are meant to do. And I find Scholar's to be Magic Accuracy.

Think about it for a moment. Klimaform, a Scholar's AF "Weapon", the first of a kind that is a spell, which enhances the Magic Accuracy of a cast when used in conjunction with the Weather of the same casting type. Weather spells and Obis, through testing with Helix, I found to have greater accuracy when landing, less resists, higher dmg output overtime to that if you stacked Elemental Magic and INT instead.

Which brings me to my round-of-point way which is what I'm trying to get at.
    • - Lightningsday + Thunderstorm = 20% Buff with Rairin Obi.
      - Lightningsday + Thunder Weather + Thunderstorm = 30% Buff with Rairin Obi.
      - Lightningsday + Double Thunder Weather + Thunderstorm = 30% Buff with Rairin Obi; the additional Scholar spell will have no effect on the casting damage or accuracy performed as the cap has already been reached through natural conditions. However, if weather goes to Single and you have Thunderstorm active, you will still have a 30% Buff.
      - Lightninsday + Thunder Weather + Hailstorm = 10% Buff with Rairin Obi, 10% Buff with Hyorin Obi. Scholar's weather will overwrite the natural weather.
      - Lightninsday + Double Thunder Weather + Hailstorm = 10% Buff with Rairin Obi, 10% with Hyorin Obi, because again, Scholar's SINGLE weather will overwrite the natural DOUBLE weather.

Scholar weather has no effect on the day enhancements you get from the Obis. I found that by soloing on Lightninsday with Hailstorm up, you can be 10% more efficient on twice as many nukes using the Obis, than having Double Lightning enhancement on yourself for just one list of spells. It's also more MP efficient (Which is what Sch is all about).

I'm a bit confused by this. Are you actually saying you haven't seen a damage increase from adding thunderstorm on thunder day with Rairan on?

Personally when soloing I find it more efficient to rotate tiers II-IV, thus getting the 20% boost constantly and never having to worry that I don't have a spell ready for recast. This is assuming thunder or ice day naturally. To each their own I guess.

While we weren't intending to do extensive testing, my first experience of SCH at an endgame event was in the BLM PT at Sky God Pops. All I did was AoE Storm & AoE Klimaform. One of the BLMs decided to bring his Obi's with him. He was able to do considerable damage, and continually pulled hate.

So, we concluded that SCH storms do affect the bonuses from Obis. Also, that BLM stopped bringing his Obis with him when I went as SCH.
