For strictly healing purposes, 20% Spell Interruption rate will do more than INT or Enfeebling Magic. In addition, the +1 Version grants more MND. Again, since these are minimal advantages, Argutes are the better choice for inventory reasons.

This thread has been quiet for a rather long time. It's kind of sad, considering that this is one of the better places for Scholar discussions.

Anyways, down to business; I think I've hit the unfortunate wall were I would need to start getting some of the more "rarer" items, Sea Capes and the like, but I still feel that I can still make some general improvements.

My "Standard" Nuking set: FFXIGEAR.com, I also have my Jupiter's and just acquired an Auster's. I'm thinking that I need more MAB gear, mainly Ugg. Pendant and Vicious Mufflers. Suggestions?

There's also the Selenian Cap, I'm not sure what augments would work best for Scholars, the +6 INT for helices or the +4 INT +2 MAB for regular nuking? I haven't upgraded my AF hat yet, so I was considering the +6 cap while I wait for the next Temenos drop, but still I would like to hear what other Scholars have gotten or are planning to get

Need hq staffs and yigit hands for helices but otherwise that's correct. For nukes use a 2nd snow ring and golliard hands (better trade off on hands/ring slot).

Well some background on what you use your sch for would be helpful on deciding what to get first.

    Best gear for Helix(imo):
    Main - Hq Staff/nq staff
    Sub - Bugard Strap +1
    Ammo - Phantom Tathlum
    Head - Maat's/Moon hat(with +6int)/AF1+1/AF1
    Neck - Prudence/Uggy(when active)/Enlightened/carat choker
    Ears - Novio+Moldy/any +2
    Body - Mahant/Errant/Ixion/Morg
    Hands - Mahant/Yigit/Errant/Vicious
    Rings - any +5int
    Back - Gleeman's/Prism/Rainbow
    Waist - Argute/Pentient's
    Legs - Mahant/Errant
    Feet - Goliard/Yigit/Rost pumps/AF1+1

    Best Gear of Dmg (imo)
    Main - HQ staff/nq Staff
    Sub - bugard strap +1
    Head - Mog(+4int+2MAB)/Maat's/Ree's Headgear/AF1+1
    Neck - Uggy(when active)Prudence/Carat/Enlightened
    Ears - Same as helix
    Body - Morgana's/ACP(+4MAB)/Mahant/Errant/Ixion/AF1+1
    Hands - Vicious/Yigit/Mahant
    Rings - Any +5Int
    Back - same as helix
    Waist - Sea obis/argute/pentients
    Legs - Mahant/Errants
    Feet - Yigit/Goliard

Also, check out Kaeko's Blog Kanican - Scholar Guide (Part V) for more information on the -enmity set and why to use it.

As for your moon hat, you have to look at what you do. If you nuke a lot go for +4int +2mab(or -4 Enmity +10%magic crit rate), if you use helix a lot(and don't have access to Maat's) go for +6 int. If you nuke a lot of high resistant mobs you can go with +4int +5Macc. You can always go for a fastcast hat as well (+5%FC)

Have you tested it? Intelligence contributes more to Helix damage than Magic Attack by far.

I used the formula on the otherwiki

    [(casterInt - targetInt)x1+25]xMABx(Staff bonus)x(Day/WeatherBonus)

1 and 25 are the values for Helix
Staff bonus = 1.15 (for HQ)
left day/weatherbonus out cause it would be the same for both
Used 89 for Target int (Puddings)

I suggest swapping Genie Gages for Goliard cuffs for ice nukes only.

Obviously situational obis will be quite nice for nukes.

I'm happy to say I have most of the gear in those sets (minus Novio/Prudence/AF2 Belt/Alkalurops) and am constantly happy with my nukes. I build for endgame only, so as such I don't use damage gear as much as resist gear. As such, my body choices seem to best be AF1+1 and Mahatma, as I don't think Morganas or ACP can beat out what the two offer for Nuke/Helix.

FoV augments with Macc will greatly help SCH. Especially since we can hope for +2Macc belt and forgot about AF2 belt.

    There's your problem.
As difference in Intelligence drops below 50 (higher level target) the effect of Alkalurops' +10 Intelligence pulls ahead.
This entire argument is pretty much pointless though, since any good Scholar has Stormsurge and will almost exclusively use Cryohelix, making Aquilo's Staff better anyway.

    FFXIGEAR.com

This is an attainable 320ish/120ish set for resistant mobs (needs full merits in Int and Elemental though)

    For humes/mithra - 324/119 (w/o stormsurge)
    Tarus - 324/126
    Galka - 324/116
    Elvaan - 324/112

Fully meritted storumsurge will put everyone, other than elvaans, over 120 int)

I just used that int as an example.

I just did the math for your set(142int with alky, 137int with hq ice staff), and once the mob reaches ~130 int is when alky starts to pulls ahead of hq staves(for helixes), not accounting for stormsurge or food.

137 Intelligence only applies to Aquilo's Staff. I agree that Cryohelix is the most useful due to Stormsurge, but when someone asking what to wear for Helices, the answer in general is Alkalurops.

Ok so for mobs < ~130int and over 50 Int difference it goes Aquillo's > Alky > all other HQ staves (for your helix set). Good to know

Question: What does wiki mean when it says Helix always take advantage of the weather? Does that mean Obis are useless?

Info: SCH can solo Battle of Jueno.

Helices will always receive the damage boost from weather, regardless of Obis. However, what I believe someone tested was that wearing an Obi increased the duration of a Helix significantly. That and the possible M.ACC obis give, if you believe day/weather has a play in that sort of thing.

Helix spells take full advantage of the weather if you are wearing a Obi or not (So if you wear the obi you will not gain a damage bonus) however its unknown (i think dont quote me on it) if Obi's add macc, if they do it may be worthwhile to use them for that. However Argute belt / Pen rope ftw.

doh beaten by rocl. But thats intresting i was unsure if they helped with the duration of the helix, do you happen to still have the source? i'd like to read into that more. If not i can try and test it myself later tonight, i use the p.rope over obi's for more INT as i have yet to see any proof of macc on obi's =/ (not saying they dont have it i just feel safer with p.rope).

I use the "Standard" set I posted for just about everything, puddings to Limbus to Dynamis, some parts of sky. I just started using helices a little more often since I've been putting merits in to them. I'm also currently building up a resist set that is similar to the one you posted, but I was thinking about using Sturm's Report (+2 MACC) over the Phantom.

Judging from the information here, I should be using the following:

    Main - Elemental Staves
    Sub - Bugard Strap +1
    Head - Selenian Cap (+4int+2MAB)
    Neck - Ugg. Pendant/Enlightened
    Ears - Moldy/Morion +1
    Body - Royal Redingote (+4MACC/MAB)
Hands - Goliard Cuffs or Yigit Gages
    Rings - Snow Ring x2
    Back - Prism Cape
    Waist - Penitent's/Obi
    Legs - Mahatma
    Feet - Yigit Crackows

Which I have all of, sans the Selenian. My Linkshell is planning on starting Eiherjar very soon, so Gleeman's and Omega don't seem so far away now. I'll try my luck getting the Caract Choker from sky in the meantime.

It was in one of the SCH Discussion Threads in this section, I'll try to dig it up, but no promises.

EDIT: It was in this thread all along!
