So I just dropped my phone.

I dropped my about 5 minutes ago on tile floor. My brand new Tmobile dash, about a week old. I tested everything out and everything worked fine, so i thought i had no problem, until i made a call. When I made a call, it made a staticy noise that it has never made before, so i told myself oh shit. I am very upset right now, and its really making me mad. anyone know how to fix this?

I was afraid that we would not get the correct answer since this was posted in the General Discussion section instead of the Technical Support Questions section. Glad BG didn't let the OP down by posting the right answer on the first try.

Just because someone doesnt know the answer and instead replies with a sarcastic comment, doesnt mean people are purposefully with-holding information. I guarantee someone with a good idea who gives a shit that you dropped your phone will reply soon. I sadly, am not that person.

May as well post this here too.

I have had about three cell phones in the past 10 years or so, and never had a problem dropping them / spilling on them / not taking care of them... etc.... Until this last phone that I've had about a week now... and in the past three days I've dropped it right into a full glass of alcoholz and then spilled a giant jimmy john's cup worth of cherry coke onto it....

It still works, there's no issues at all, EXCEPT - Its a LG "Rumor", it's one of those slide phones that slide sideways with a QWERTY keypad... and you can hear the 'sticky' when you slide it open. Also, all the buttons do that - sticky noises, like a faint click when you push the buttons before they're even pushed all the way down.

How do I rectify this? I've used a wet paper towel to kinda scrub the places I can, but I surely can't get to the gears under where the phone slides, nor can I get underneath the buttons (most of the button stick has gone away since this, but not all). I've been considering removing battery > dousing in water > rinsing in alcohol (generally a safe practice for cleaning out powered down electronic devices, as alcohol evaporates very fast) or even skipping the water step and just doing the alcohol... but I'm pretty sure there's capacitors or SOMEthing in there that will still get screwed up.

    Any advice?

If the phone has it's memory backed up (settings ect) with a micro battery it'll still fuck it up if you dunk it in water, sorry.

Probably exposed a wire somehow, hence the static. Best suggestion is to take it apart, look for the exposed wiring and cover it with something metallic and flexible. Aluminum foil, perhaps.

or the speaker is fucked, then I suggest getting a new one. But it's probably an exposed wire.

    Also, pee on it.

Re: So I just dropped my phone.

here are your options, I'm a tmobile customer as well.

    1) since its a week old, take it back to the store and just say you're hearing some weird static coming out when you make a phone call. Do not tell them you dropped it! Chances are they'll check for water damage but thats NP since its usually a white small sticker in the back where the battery goes that changes color. If it didnt touch water than its okay.

    2) you phone, as new as it is, should still have warranty. If the store doesn't want to exchange it, call tmobile. Tell them your phone is acting up and they'll mail you a new one, you ship the old one back.

Don't listen to anyone here telling you to take it apart etc, you'll void your warranty.

Warrant only works after 30 days of initial purchase, before 30 days you have to take it back to the store.

I hope you can get your phone fixed, and when you do DON'T MAKE A FACEBOOK GROUP ASKING FOR PEOPLE'S NUMBERS. They're so annoying.

negatiiiiiveeeeeeeeeee, I had my Blackberry pearl for over a year and I screwed up the USB port on it. I gave tmobile a call and they sent me a new phone within 2-3 days. As a matter of fact, I ended up screwing up the USB port AGAIN on the the replacement 24hrs after and they sent me ANOTHER one.

so damn false on that. Warranties on any product kick in the day of purchase. In fact manufactuer's would rather have you send it to them then back to the store for exchange.

Re: So I just dropped my phone.

My friend has had nothing but trouble with T-Mobile. He's had the same phone replaced (sent his in, got 1 mailed to him) about 5 times now. And every time it was because they sent him a phone with something wrong with it. First the speaker didn't work, then the volume down button, then there was static throughout entire calls, then they send him an entirely different phone altogether that he didn't even want/ask for.. He has the one he has now for about a week and there is something wrong with it but it's not major enough for him to go through the hassle again.

over a year doesn't really count as "30 days of initial purchase" The second time doesn't count either, since you didn't purchase it. oh and btw, chances are, they sent you a refurbished phone.

I should also note that when I did initially get my phone, (This was 2 days after I purchased it) I had a problem with the trackball and Just returned it for another one.

As for the other statement, I'm sure its a refurb but its a lot better than paying $350 dollars for another phone.
