Wow, I'm really sorry I started this shitstorm. All I'm trying to say is that ever since the first issue that atlas had, I've not been able to access it since without it crashing my browser. Take that for what you will.

Sucks, because I really liked how atlas was set up, but I can't wait 20 minutes for IE to start responding again.

And I swear to god if anyone in this thread tells me to use Firefox, you can DIAF. I don't fucking want to so STFU. XD (I say this only because I know it's coming)
    Use Firefox.

It has been proven Firefox is not a magic bullet. IE7Pro is more secure than Firefox!
Proof = Many FF users were hacked, Not one single IE7Pro user was hacked.
STOP posting Firefox as some kind of genie in a bottle to protect your ass because by itself it doesn’t!
Use a good Host file, http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm is a good place to start.
Spyware Doctor from http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor run once or twice a week and update as often.
Unlike other AV programs i.e., Norton/McAfee it won’t HOG your resources and you can turn it off when your Playing ffxi. Also I think you'll find it finds more things than any other AV app.
Run AV anti rootkit once a week or so. Keep your comp updated with the latest critical updates from MS.

Quick fix by removing the news earlier today before Hsiu left for work. The hack is from a sql injection, but not from the main atlas site, maybe monster/npc or one of the other sites the server hosts. It's being looked at.

I think there's one thing we can all agree on:

At least I don't use AOL.

So whens SE going to give back those accounts banned/locked from November? Thats the real question.

btw, Opera is another 'safe' browser to use if your Anti-Firefox and dont wanna use Internet Explorer. The newest version of IE isnt that bad from the reports ive read about as well, though doing the research helps.

    Spyware Doctor
    Kaspersky
    AVG
    Avira
    Spybot S&D

are also all good tools to use in conjunction with a browser, windows firewall is a hardy tool as well.

Firefox with AdBlock and NoScript has not been vulnerable to a single one of the exploits discovered so far. Anyone who got hacked while using Firefox had something else going on, or there is some special hack that has managed to continue to evade detection by the entire player base.

There are a number of reasons that IE7Pro users haven't been affected, but it mostly boils down to the very small number of IE7Pro users in general.

I'm not trying to claim that Firefox is a "magic bullet", but neither is IE7Pro.

    Download FF + NoScript.
Use AdAware if you want Spyware Removal. In addition, you may want to edit your post... Spyware Doctor does not replace AntiVirus software as it says on their site that it is only there to remove SpyWare...

Better suits your needs yet you complained how it freezes every time you visited Atlas.

    /sigh

It freezes for me in Firefox, too. I've tried them both. There is something on that site that my laptop does not agree with. Thus, I have simply stopped using this site. I guess I didn't make that clear enough in my first post.

Can we please stop badgering me about my choice of browser? Once again, it's not affecting you at all. Not in the slightest. So I honestly don't see why any of you would be so worried about it.

Re: Is there an exploit on ffxi-atlas?

Yes, that's correct. I haven't tried it in weeks because I just got tired of it altogether, but last time I tried it was broken.

I might just be missing some sort of add-on it runs, I haven't really bothered to find out.

Re: Is there an exploit on ffxi-atlas?

Similar issue with Firefox I used to have with certain sites using some JS Scripts. I eventually uninstalled and reinstalled FF and works fine now.
Never use IE so I can't say if the issue happens there as well.

Re: Is there an exploit on ffxi-atlas?

First things first i don't know much about the technologies used to impliment these virus/trojan/worms. I do know how to get ride of most. If for some reason you dont use FireFox with the NoScript plug in you should go download it right now and then continue reading this.

    I'll Wait....

Ok now that you have Firefox with NoScript the future problems will not exhist.

If for some reason you did download and install this particular trojan its pretty easy to get ride of. I went and downloaded it on my pc just to make sure this process works.

1a:Update Windows USING FIREFOX Instruction on how to update

1b:Install internet explorer 7 if you are hard headed and will not use Firefox

    2a:Run VundoFix
    * Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    * Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    * Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    * You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    * Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    * When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
    * Turn your computer back on.
    2b:RunComboFix
    * Doubleclick combo.exe to launch the application.
    * Follow the prompts that will be displayed on the screen.
    * Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
*Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.
    * Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.

3a:Run the anti spyware remove program called Spybot Search & Destroy
    *Update Spybot ==>Detection updates
*Reboot your computer in safemode(when your computer is starting up just hit the F8 key a few times a list will appear. Arrow up to "Safe Mode" and hit enter.
    *Open spybot and click Scan.
    *Restart
3b:Run the antispyware program called SuperAntispywarefree
*This Program will ask if you want to install update or lookfor them click "Yes"
*Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
    *Click the Scanning Control tab.
*Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
    Close browsers before scanning
    Scan for tracking cookies
    Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
    Please leave the others unchecked.
*Click close at the bottom of the window.
*On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
*On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
*On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
*Click Next to start the scan. After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
*Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
*It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click Yes.

4:Run at least 2 online virus scans to find and remove any virus or spyware from your computer.Personally i perfer the following:
*Windows Live OneCare Safety ScannerSimple on screen instructions to follow.
*Trendmicro(you will have to either enable javascript if you are useing Firefox with NoScript or Just allow full access to Trendmicros site)
*Kaspersky Online Scanner (you will need ActiveX for this; no worries it will prompt to download ActiveX just click "yes" after installation clock the browse button go to my computer and follow the on screen instructions)
*Avast Simple on screen instruction to follow.
*Or you can use your own virus protection(which has failed you cause you have a virus)

If these steps help anyone at all with there troubles, you're welcome. I do this every Monday even if i don't have a virus or think that i don't. You would be surprised what malware/spyware you might have on your cpu. As i stated at the top i don't know much about this whole precess, i was put on to this by my cousin who had fixed a problem of mine that dealt with similar issuses.

    Enjoy.

I'm assuming the exploits etc are coming from one of the 4 or 6 or whatever blocked domains that come up on each page. Am I right in that?

Yes you are right in that.
FFXi-Atlas.com is not hosting the trojans. The other domains are.
