EP/DC don't count lol.
So it doesn't matter that it matched up with the results I've gotten, and have heard others getting from the axes.
The mobs are high enough that I don't auto-cap my crit rate somehow, they're not particularly damage resistant, but they don't take extra slashing damage, have enough HP to withstand a WS/TP phase, or two WSes sometimes, and show a similar pattern to what I got from lolibri and mamools.
All I was testing was to find what sort of number spread I'd get on a not completely trivial mob, and they're all pretty close in level, so that helps kill those variables somewhat.
I was basically inspired to do it because in a meripo I'm generally trying to watch my timers/find the next mob/WS as soon as I start my swing for 100% Tp/etc, and wanted to confirm my rough eyeballed numbers.
Didn't say it was end all be all fact, I'd love someone to parse Rampager vs Perdu vs Byakko's more definitively.
Perdu is made of win. This is the answer. Speaking of which, anyone on Valefor wanna make a static assault rankup so that I can get the 3 perdu weapons I need?![]()
Nah seriously, I don't think there'd be a situation where rampager's crit bonus would make up for its low damage. Especially in light of Perdu's sick hidden effect and high base damage (when <100% and WS). And it goes without saying that martial bhuj is purely for steel cyclone. Never ever use a TP bonus weapon for anything other than a single hit TP = damage WS.
Lessons learned: WAR/SAM isn't really not that hard to pull off. It's good that we're all talking about details--and besides having high assault rank, we're not diving into having any hard-to-obtain stuff as a 100% must to make it work well (stuff like torques and askar are lovely but you can get a 6-hit anyway, and anyone can merit it out). It's also a little more complicated than just hitting Ni and Rampage macros alternating, so I respect most melee/SAM a lot more. I can only pray that when I /sea all 75 WAR on my server that I see more than just 1 other person /sam ... someone I know has a bravura, lol.
**Minor wall of text below in replies**
<3 ...Even more <3 with lvl8 merit... and way more <3 with torque for 299GAX. That thing is just absolutely heaven for a war/sam. Kids, that thing is the reason you want to do sea even if you only have WAR... assuming you don't feel like buying ancient coins, and you already have your Rajas. Seriously though, I have no shame in admitting that besides my 3-year-old haidate and askar helm/body/gloves I spent forever+12 to get, I actually feel proud to have the torque.Originally Posted by Cyn
You can do eet! It's like the progression of Perdu weapons... a lot of THFs/BLUs/some PLDs were all over the sword instantly, NINs slowly realized they needed to do assault rank1-9 for their blade, and as more people see the light on war/sam it's the next batch of people trying to get through their assault ranks. SE should get some credit for making assault rankups far more worthwhile in the end than nation ranks which are just leftovers of a nation pride thing from 4 years ago that only ended in aketons...Originally Posted by Cyn
...I really dunno about Byakko's. In a situation like colibri where you're just mashing your raging rush macro most of the time I don't think the un-latent would matter much. I guess it would be worth mentioning what sub you're testing with (say SAM, please)... as the +5str on hasso would compensate for the slightly lower base dmg vs the voulge if someone was foolish enough to sub something else. I suppose the same goes on the rampager. Here's a rather epic problem though--do you even know 2 other WARs with comparable (if not identical) gear you'd trust to test out something in such detail? lol. You'd probably want a PLD in as a control tank, but it's seriously hard to test weapon vs weapon on colibri due to random TP loss. Such absurdity parsed me equal to a Gungir DRG on colibri due to poor timing in her TP use, which is just asinine.Originally Posted by Max
On a semi-related note, I laugh/cry when I see people swinging a byakko's at puks. "It's my only great axe" is NOT a valid excuse... you are permitted to sub nin and use your whatever. /NIN isn't a crime... I mean it hasn't changed at all from before the 2-handed changes... GAX is just even more <3 now. Retaliate with GAX is also sexy as hell vs dual wield 8)
This is likely because +DA% either from gear or job trait doesn't stack on top of multi-hit weapons and you'll reach the same average number of hits regardless, heh. It's been tested out to pretty substantial lengths that soboro and ridill average out to 1.9hits/turn regardless of main, sub or gear--though it's not common knowledge. The 'more casual' player isn't that likely to get their hands on the things so they'd have no reason to research it, hm? When I lvled SAM I did use crit strap exclusively with soboro on.Originally Posted by isladar
Situational, certainly... but I'll confess to being lazy as hell and short inventory space and only owning a pole strap now (the only time I spend on my SAM is /thf with hagun on gods/kirin).
Unrelated note regarding rampager: It does look insanely badass, which I suppose is a plus. I hope my nyzul relic ends up looking the same, since the base model has the same skin![]()
fix your double negative in the first sentence
and yea 299 Gaxe is fucking badass.
Probably 60% of my assaults to FL rank were done with a trio, not that hard. I like Perdu, Rune Chopper, and Fort. Mainly use RC for difficult solo tanking situations, if it puts you at capped gear haste, it's really pretty decent. If you have no haste gear, not worth it.
Perdu is best.
Fort is fun as shit and not too far off.
screw the other gaxes.
But not as cool as 304 Sword!Originally Posted by Seditedi
