    Re: Shoot to wound mentality

Everyone knows that the laws can't be passed due to people thinking guns are the best thing ever and the NRA is one of the largest organizations in the US. Most of us are just saying hopes. We know there are too many gun lobbyists, gun organizations, and too much love for guns to actually get rid of them. We're talking hypothetical situations. Ones that are realized in other countries, to great effect.

Practical discussions are meaningless in here anyways. It's not like we're the senators.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proposition_H
That's more or less a failed bill, since it never really got put into effect.
"It's been tried, it failed." At no point has any successful nationwide gun ban been in place, and obviously something cannot fail if it was never in effect in the 1st place.

I understand this effort is ongoing but I very nearly stopped reading after I read "Proposition H was a proposed ordinance that would.." all of which is very suppositional speech. Even if this goes through it's not nationwide and we all know it'll never work anyway.

Had you continued to read you would have noticed that it passed the election process and was due to begin enforcement in 2006. Legal challenges were brought up and it's been tied up in the courts ever since. It's representative of an attempt to disarm the citizenry that failed. You want to keep splitting hairs to make yourself feel right you go right on ahead. I'll keep both my feet planted firmly on the ground and my head out of the clouds meanwhile.

It didn't fail because it didn't work. It failed because the guys who stand to make money off of guns decided to stop it >_>

That's the same as failure in my book. I don't get into a fistfight over a parking spot, leave the other guy bloodied and lose the subsequent civil trial costing me thousands of dollars and say 'well at least I didn't lose that fight!'

Ever since I was about 5 years old (when that fucking greedy kid tried to throw blocks at the other kids in the room, and the teacher made us put them all away), I've hated the "One bad apple spoils the bunch" philosophy. That's exactly what happens here, we are letting (incoming made up stat) less than 1% of the population dictate legislation. I'm sure 99%+ use guns in their intended manner (unless you count popping birds off power lines unintended). Legislating off fear is how shit like the Patriot Act gets passed. Oh yeah, I just made a far left and a far right comment in one fucking post. BOOYAHHHHH

    Re: Shoot to wound mentality

You can make all the laws and regulations concerning gun possession that you want, and the only people that will follow them are normal people. If you live in or around any major city, it's no hassle to purchase a gun while bypassing the legal channels. Criminals will always be able to get guns with minimal effort and price. It's a bit old and I'm sure somebody has to have said it in this thread but 'Once you outlaw guns, only criminals will own them'. I mean, generally outlawing something makes it so much more harder and expensive to obtain. Nobody knows anybody who can score some pot, right? (Yes, yes guns != drugs, good for you)

And the ever increasing number of guns within american borders will inevitably only make things worse long-term. I think you will have to make a choice between upholding the unsustainable "american lifestyle" or turning into a, contradictive of the former, big brother state. Time to drop your old morals and bills and look at what's working for the rest of the world instead.

Just because a gun was used in a crime does not mean you can put that murder on a gun. I'm sure a lot of murders would still go down if there was no gun available. Yes, introducing more guns will introduce an easier way to kill people, thus, increasing the amount of murders in which guns are used. However, just because you decrease the amount of guns on the street 75% does not mean you are going to drop murder rates 75%, or anything close to that. People will inevitably find other means to accomplish their task, guns are easy to find and quite effective. None-the-less, murders will still happen. Crimes of passion will probably diminish greatly, and you may drop the murder rate some percentage points, and you could argue every life matters. Of course gun control could also cost lives as well. I still, for the life of me, cannot understand why people would let the dirt-bag scum of the earth control their liberties.

    Re: Shoot to wound mentality

There never seems to be a happy median in any of these threads. The world is either black or white to you people. I'll say it again, an out right ban of guns would result in a giant black market where those that would go around the law to get a gun would do so without hesitation anyway. Gun control is fine when it does not oppress the citizens it is designed to protect (read: hunting rifles/shotguns, private security a'okay). People will always kill people, not sure why the fact that guns make it "easy" comes in to play. It should be up to the individual to decide, anything else is to admit that "big brother" knows best. Same could be said of a lot of things (war on drugs). For a group of people that is in favor of absolute social freedoms in several areas, you seem all to willing to limit those freedoms for the relative safety of the populace in general.

Time to end in a ridiculous statement: freedom isn't free it costs a 'buck-o-five'.

Um, what you're saying is that that you choose not to get into the fistfight and then subsequently say you won the fistfight, unless I'm grossly misinterpreting what you're saying.

I'm saying 'when you fight the status quo, make sure your victory's going to last and doesn't cost you more than keeping the status quo would have.' Most gun-control efforts can't get past that pesky '2nd amendment' and 'legal challenges' hurdle. Every time one of these challenges to gun ownership fails the gun lobby gains strength, money and support.

Freedom to communicate privately seems more important than freedom to carry a deadly weapon

    god damnit

(btw I'm not nearly as against shotguns and other larger weapons as I am against concealed weaponry)

I'm not saying that the San Francisco amendment was done right at all >_> Frankly, as I said, doing such things are virtually impossible due to the gun lobby being so huge. I'm just saying that's a bad example of what a no guns policy could do.

So the problem is the gun lobby being to big. Hmm doesnt the gun lobby get its money the same way the enviromental, insurance, automaker, oil etc. lobby get their money? One thing your are right about is America is not run buy the "People" but rather by the Lobbyist. In fact mabey I should go back to school to become a lobbyist. Seems they are the only ones doing anything these days.

BTW I agree that most handguns are retarded and not worth having around, although I love my S&W .40 and would fight for the right to own it but these stupid plastic handgus that are cheap to make and sell are litteraly DUMB. They are the most god aweful thing to shoot. They are not even close to accurate and they are being sold as "conceleabe weapons". This does make me wonder wtf. I have a CC permit and used to carry my .40 in a shoulder holster but trust me I always new it was there cause it was so big and bulky. Dont ask my why casue honestly were I live there was never a threat. Then one day I quit and havent carried a gun since. However i still keep my CC up to date just for ease of purchasing guns and amo and getting them up into canada witch I do for hunting purposes.

And all my guns are kept locked in a gun safe. If someone breaks into my house they will have to get past my Black Belt wife and you aint seen anything meaner than a pissed off mom who is protecting her child.
