Imo you are allready doing the best thing, telling people here that most muslims arent extremist, that you don't like violence and just want your peaceful lifes. The people who drew the cartoons sent a message to the readers of that newspaper, telling their opinion about islam and that problem with that child book thing. The danish goverment sent a message to the world that they protect free speech with not prohibitin these images. The italien PM sent a message to the world, saying he won't let others cut his freedom, even if they violence as their weapon.
And a lot muslims are allready attacking whole america just because of bush and his stupid actions.

Also i like the idea of not buying products from other countrys because of their actions, even tho its imo overreactet when startet by a simple cartoon, but the idea is good. What I also don't get...is why is a picture of Muhammed more offensive than the idea that 4.5 billion infidels in the world don't recognize him as a prophet and don't believe he ever communicated with Allah? It seems that drawing a picture is offensive because it undermines his sanctity or something...but if the people drawing it don't recognize him as a sacred figure to begin with, isn't it just kind of a logical step to the drawing? It almost feels like the entire Muslim world didn't realize that there were people that didn't share their faith for the past 1300 years, and found out when a cartoon was published in a Danish newspaper.

What do you want me to make topics of? palestine? Iraq? suicide bombing? Islam? i made them all, i debated all of those before in BG. My 800+ posts consist of debating about religion, west vs east, bots and excellenceLS. and in all of them i point out violence in the name of religion is wrong. Seems like before 9/11, in every action/adventure type movie, the bad guy(s) was/were Muslim. Not so much so anymore.

Uhh..really? Nearly any action movie that comes out with a "terrorist" organization is tied to Muslims in some form. I actually face-palmed when I read archibald's post, because I usually agree with his comments, but here I feel he's got it wrong --> it actually became the popular thing to do to portray Muslims as terrorists.

We're gradually getting to a point where writers/movies are being more "apologetic" to Muslims -- like we'll see a 20 year old boy who's like "I don't want to be a terrorist like the rest of us! I want to be freedom!!"


With regards to the article, I think it was stupid to make in the first place, and even more idiotic to reprint. In my opinion, there's a fine line between proper free speech and slander. I think the only thing more idiotic than printing/reprinting the article is a violent response, especially from a Muslim populous, but I would instantly reiterate that it seems like the entirety of these actions were to provoke Muslims.

I think one of the biggest reasons these cartoons caused such a strong reaction is because it isn't just "a joke" or a simple ridiculing of the Prophet of Islam, rather showing his turban as a bomb implies very bluntly that he, and that which he preached, was violence and what we commonly conceive as terrorism. Which is just absurd.

Obviously I don't condone any violent response by Muslims (or anyone, for that matter) with regards to these cartoons or things similar, however, I won't be convinced that these cartoons and the like are just lighthearted, and "Muslims can't take a joke."

What hurts about actions like the printing of this cartoon and any violent conflict which arises from it (including death threats) is that it doesn't allow for a forum of intellectual dialogue. Specifically in the case of violent response...it really doesn't help, as a Muslim, in dealing with attacks against Islam in the name of free speech -- and again, I don't see how you can spin it to not be an attack against Islam. As a Muslim, any comment I make will seem like I'm defending the death of over 100 people, and for this, I completely and equally blame not only those "Muslims" who took to arms over this silly nonsense, but as well those ignorantly defending hate speech.

Personally, and in my mind only, I subscribe to the belief that some things are sacred, and are not to be ridiculed. Obviously, this conception becomes obfuscated in the real world, so I have to pretty much abandon it, otherwise commit to making fallacious arguments.
