Is it my Xbox or my Connection?

Ok so I recently got FFXI for the xbox 360. I had been playing on ps2 since the ps2 release. My 360 has way more lag then my ps2. When I'm not near anyone or theres not a lot going on in the screen at once it seems to be fine, but the moment even a few players are on the screen the animations are a bit slow when comparing it to ps2. Is it possible that my 360 is the problem or does that sound like a lag issue or both? Thx

    Don't double post.

Test your connection, make sure your NAT isn't restricted or closed. If it is, place the Xbox on the DMZ and see if that helps.

wouldn't that be just a normal thing to do for stuff like a ps3 and xbox so there is no restrictions what so ever on the device?

Yeah, but it's the only thing I can think of that would cause a drop of speed in FFXI. It's not his connection (because he was playing fine on PS2) and unless there's a hardware problem on the 360 (doubtful if its not giving the red ring of death) I dunno what else the cause would be.

Well when I did a connection test NAT was moderate. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

The goal is to have it "Open". This normally only affects your ability to connect to others over Xbox Live, and can cause connetion problems in multiplayer games. I've never heard of it causing a problem with FFXI, but like I said I don't know what else would assuming your connection and 360 are both fine.

Anyway, you're gonna want to go to your router settings, and find the option to enable DMZ. Fill in the IP of your Xbox, click apply and that's it. See if anything changes once that's done.

My game ran much smoother on my PS2 also, when I started playing on 360 due to my PS2 crapping out I have noticed much more lag while playing even if the zone is relatively empty.
