Quest for Glory Anthology

Cleaned my closet out about a week ago and found a ton of old games, including this, all the old Doom games, Heretic, Castle Wolfenstein, the original Lemmings, and a few old Lucas Arts games. What a nostalgic week this has been. I haven't played some of this shit in at least 10 years.

I'm curious if any of you have played the Quest for Glory series. :D As a kid I could only ever beat the first and third one. Fourth one I got far, but ran into a glitch and could never finish. Took me weeks, months to get anywhere though. Going back now I've finished the first one on thief and wizard in a day.

While we're on the topic, anyone go back and play old school RPGs? I'd be really interested to find some good titles for PC.

I think I played QFG V, it was pretty fun.

As for old school RPGs, I always thought the Space Quest and King's Quest series were both really good.

I remember beating the first two, I don't think I finished the third though. Second one I recall is the one where you have to fight the elementals, and the third had some crazy part where you had to go through a forest?

Hero's Quest ftw (before copyright infringement lawsuit). First one was easily the best, but the second one was solid except for the fact that you basically had a time limit on the game. Third was alright, but the graphical interface kinda took away some of the feel that the first two had. Fourth was solid except for the fact that it had so many game-crashing bugs, that was just ridiculous. I never really played through the fifth the entire way though I still have it installed, guess I never got motivated enough to go through it.

Solid adventure series though, it's unfortunate that games like that have gone the way of the dodo.

I loved the QFG series. About a year ago I played through all the games again actually out of boredom. I think 2 was my favorite since you had to type all your commands and I remember me and a friend typing all sorts of random things trying to figure out what to do and somehow after many years I still remembered most of them. I know 1 originally had a typing interface, but for some reason they had remade that to use a mouse interface but never remade 2 as far as I know.

I've recently replayed Ultima VII and Ultima VII Part 2.... was loads of fun. There is an emulator called Exaulted that runs just those 2 Ultima games with high settings. Give it a shot if you haven't tried them yet... you can get them off of Abondonia (which is a great site for classic PC games) http://www.abandonia.com/

I never actually did ever finish QfG2 or 4. 2 because I was fairly young and think I got lost somewhere and gave up, and 4 because of above said bugs. Never played 5.

Not an RPG, but was in your list of stuff you found - Wolfenstein is all kinds of win, I still play it when I'm bored every now and then lol.

I got the old QFG games to work on Windows XP with some compatibility configurations. There are a couple of patches you will want for QFG1 though that fixes a few speed bugs. Basically since your computer is so much faster now than it was then, there's a spot at the end where you can't possibly move accurately enough to go where you need to go in the time given.

Heroe's Quest was one of my favorite games as a kid. Was the second one in the series the one where you started off in the desert or something? I remember I lost the map and couldn't get out of the city.

You're supposed to find the moneychanger and buy the magic map before doing anything else.

No it was something that actually physically came with the game. I lost it and was screwed.

Oh yeah, the game itself came with a copy of the map of the city which you can get lost in really fast if you don't know where you're going. In fact, it's pretty hard to get to the money changer and then back to the map dealer without it, just a lot of random guessing on going left or right...(though I think someone does give you directions but was still really easy to get lost)

Dragon Fire was alot of fun. A huge leap from the older ones.
