anyone for school uniforms?
anyone for school uniforms?
there is a constitutional argument to be made though, that this is a restriction of free speech. I, however, don't want to make that argument because its lame lolOriginally Posted by archibaldcrane

agreed, but I wouldn't really limit it to inner city schools, but I do think it would have a major effect there. People bitch and whine about rights, don't see them bitching about anti-smoking zones (ie; schools) no weapons on campus (sup 2nd amendment) etc. Of course comparing a dress code to these two things is a bit extreme, it clearly has an effect on the ways of learning, or at least at my old school it did. If you want to "express yourself" via the things you wear why not do it outside of school? School is a learning environment, not somewhere for you to show how much of an individual you are. I think a very solid school uniform should be put in place, not to limit people, but to get people focused on what school is really for, and not what its not for.Originally Posted by Enkidu
I'd say 90% of the people who posted in this thread (and in america) don't wear their pants around their waist. A lot of guys sag their pants and don't even realize it.
Outlawing this is gay btw.
Wearing your pants around your knees is really funny looking but as long as (ugly/fat) women are allowed to wear miniskirts in public I don't see why this even up for discussion.
I am against uniforms and all , but they should take a different route on the saggy pants. People who wear their pan ts down to their fucking knees piss me off and I just wanna go over there, and beat the shit out of them. But yeah, all we need to do is show the video to them , should set em straight.
It's very rare that a frivolous infringement of first amendment rights like this is upheld for very long. Things like public nudity are obviously upheld because it's against the majority of societal norms (which imo, there's nothing wrong with legislating obvious norms as long as you are willing repeal them if things change, hi2u sodomy laws). Wearing your pants low isn't exactly what I would call morally egregious, so the law is a pretty clear violation of individual rights. If you want to educate kids educate them, putting them in jail for fashion isn't going to help. Probably just going to make them want to find more ways to rebel against a system that is obviously oppressing them (and I don't use the word lightly.)Originally Posted by Maxxthepenguin

For school uniforms /
Not for legislation for sagging being illegal though.
Here in Aus we have school uniforms, it pretty much gets rid of 90% this sag crap.
I'm actually for schools enforcing this, but against it being a state law. A school should be a place of intelligence, not seeing peoples asses. That's what the red light district and/or secret member LS forums are for.
agreed, the law is retarded... but school uniforms kind of eliminate this problem without putting asshats in jail does it not?Originally Posted by Tyche
School uniforms eliminate a variety of problems, they don't distinguish between rich'n'poor , don't have to worry bout a wide wardrobe, etc.
We had a normal uniform (Shirt/Shorts/Pants, skirts for girls, religious people who wear any scarves/turban etc had to just wear it according to the school's colour code [white or navy blue]) , and we had a uniform for P.E (Gym).
I hated my first school's uniform, but my second school's one was the sex and very comfortable.
Thing is, from a student's perspective who is in School now, would you be willing to change from reg.clothing into Uniforms everyday?
My principal tried to suspend me for "sagging" in 8th grade (um... 95? I think), didn't end up doing it but I still got bitched at a lot heh.
Amazingly enough, my school district in Liberty Hill has some pretty tough dress code for central Texas. My buddy was suspended for wearing this t-shirt to school. The caption is "its all fun and games till someone loses a weiner."
My sophomore year, we finally won the right to wear open toed shoes / flip flops. Any pants/shorts with holes larger than the size of a dime can result in a referral(Read: Any designer clothing with pre-sewn holes), and shirts cannot have holes/cut off sleeves/ or show the midriff at all. No cut off shorts or any pants with fringes are allowed, and shorts must come down to arms length when holding your arms flat against your sides.
Hair for men cannot overlap the ear, nor can it cover the eyes or touch the collar of an oxford dress shirt, no facial hair as well. The best one in the book though "Coordinating colors cannot be worn for consecutive days, and constitutes a suspension." (Read: You cant wear all black for two days + in a row.) Men are not allowed any piercings and women can only have ears pierced. Any shown piercings must be put up, and if seen twice in one day, can constitute a referral or a suspension.
And that's just part of it.
