You will hate it much more when you try to get the Genji shield. You have to use 4 abilities on a magic pot.

    step 1: Gil toss
    Step 2: 99,999 damage
    Step 3: Costly Punch
    Step 4: Octaslash

You have to do Octaslash within a time limit (its like 20 seconds) otherwise the pot will disappear and you will have to fight several fights to get the pot again. If you use the wrong ability he will also run.... its a pain in the ass, even with the Octaslash materia.

Re: Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

(some spoilers inc. if you haven't played CC yet..)

It does starts 7 years prior. I assume the 3 years are in the beginning, from Zack doing the first big mission in Wutai with Angeal. After it's over it seems like some time passes because the next cutscene mentions how bored Zack is. It seems like it's been a couple of months at the latest. The time between 2nd class and 1st should also be taken into account. The next mission in Banora seems to drag for quite a bit too, as well the times Zack stays away from Aerith. It also seems that after Zack defeats Angeal some time passes, since he grows that new hairdo and has a vacation, etc. etc. etc. and when they see the Genesis copies they seem to be shocked that they're still there, meaning that some time DID pass.

And remember that every time Zack goes on a mission, he's suddenly there... realistically, it would take some time to get from Midgar to Junon if you were to think "real time". Overall when you think about it, 3 years isn't all that much before Nibelheim's sequences, and then obviously they spend 4 years in that stupid mako container.

Overall I think it was well done, and yeah it was mainly fan service but who cares. If they were to spend more time and money on it and had brought it over to the ps2 or ps3, i'm sure it would've been more satisfying (and then they would've also had the luxury of taking you step by step through the timeline, as well as adding a bunch more things that could've easily been added about Zack's life etc. as the DMW keeps showing random cutscenes that aren't actually in the game but just something they integrated for the battle system to show Zack's interactions with his friends/colleagues.

And as far the soundtrack goes, I think the One Winged Angel theme is the best by far... I like it way more than the KH2 version, and I hated the AC version so it easily tops it in my book. Also, <3 The Price of Freedom and "Why" is the perfect song for the ending.

    EDIT: Also, translation of 'why':

The haze beyond your eyes clouds my sight,
Are there feelings lying at the bottom of your heart?

Even if the whole world was yours,
Would that that bring you happiness?

Why do you up at the lonesome sky?
    Why, let's see you smile
    I know what you're like,
How you aren't good at putting things into words, so why not...

What happened in days long past?
In your eyes, as turn your gaze away from me

Do you know of such a warmth,
One that can embrace you on those lonely nights by yourself?

Why are you so worked up on appearances?
    Why, open up your heart
I know you've had a heavy cross to bear,
But I've got the strength to accept you
So why not try believing in me

    The free are awkward...
    The free are anxious...

Why do you look up at the lonesome sky?
    Why, let's see you smile
    I know what you're like,
How you aren't good at putting thing into words
So why not try believing in me

Re: Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

Just finished it today (main story only, not sure yet if im going to play through again with all missions), and loved everything about it. DMW does get annoying sometimes, but I can easily ignore it because it sometimes has great cut scenes (which makes me wonder if there are any that I didnt see).

I picked up a PSP just for this game (but bought FFT as well), and I can say im not dissapointed. I watched Last Order and Advent Children today as well, and was surprized on how everything connects. You wonder if they had all this really planned out, or just had some really dumb luck.

I cant be arsed to replay FF7 though, maybe when they remake it.. >.> (fuck seriously, just do it already stop being fucking teases)

Really great game though.. I never played DoC (nor do I really want to play that pos, though btw, any site out there that gives a really good plot/storyline of it? Would love to know how things came about), so im a bit out of the story on what happens with Genesis and such. I picked normal because I knew I just wanted to beat the game and get the story, I did a few missions, but I didnt even powerlvl or mess with the materia fusion thing, I may play hard the second time around.

I reallllly wished they made this game longer though, it did seem sort of rushed. I think the could of gone over the past a bit more, and be a bit more detailed in the 7 year span, but I did like how they ended it right where FF7 started. I also really wanted to know about the whole DMW process though.

When I first played FF7, I was moved when Aerith died, and now playing/watching CC, LO and AC today, I cried like a little bitch when ever she was mentioned or shown ._. just because you get to understand alot of things she went through; I wish there were more info on her being an ancient, her past and such though. I never knew how close Aerith and Zack really were, makes me feal good that I always picked Aerith over Tifa in FF7 :p

Even though I knew Zack was going to die at the end, I didnt know how exactlly, and it was very moving >< Also nice to know how great the history of the Buster sword is too. They did a really great job with the ending I think, I was almost in tears the whole time, because instead of just doing it through cutscenes, they actually made you fight (the whole thing with the DMW was good too), and you knew that you wernt going to win :(

OST is fucking choice too, been listening to it ever since it was released. Was nice to finally hear how it complimented the game. Its sad that Uematsu doesnt do alot anymore, but im really pleased with Ishimoto's work, I think he brings a new flame to the games, and I like how he uses more 'metal-ish' songs.

The FF7 Compilation really has to be one of the best series out there. FF7 was far from my first game (or FF for that matter), but wow.. such a lasting impression it all has, it's all just amazing. Ive tend to look back myself on people who put it up on a high pedestal and laugh, but after replaying 7 times over and all these new installments, it really is such an amazing series. I really hope they 'milk' the series more untill its a beaten horse for all I care, cuse I just cant get enough of it. Would also like to see more info on the parts btwn FF7 and AC, and after AC (isnt that when DoC takes place? still needs more though)

If youre an FF7 fan, it's definitely worth it. And yeah, if youre looking at this as just a fun game to get, and not into the FF thing, then its still somewhat fun, but I think most people playing this game just want the story, and could care less about any quirks it has.

It's also funny how Cloud seems to be pretty badass in FF7, but with all these new games/movies/animes/etc out now, you can tell he's really just a pussy lool.

Re: Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

AC is 2 years after FF7, DoC is 1 year after AC.

The gameplay is sort of bad, but I suggest you play it just to get the next chapter of the storyline... it does branch off in a different direction with new bad guys and stuff, but it also shows a lot of cameo appearances of the original cast and also some villians (Hojo plays a big part in DoC even though you kill him in FF7...)

The ending shows Genesis (who is posessed), which leads me to believe that the compilation is far from over. If they don't plan on remaking FF7, they should make FF7-2 and sort of continue it where DoC takes off, because there's a crapload of room to continue (and even use the original group for the spam of the game, and maybe even introducing new characters..)

Then again they might just make Dirge of Cerberus 2, which seems like the most likely course of action that SE that take... Either way I can't wait. I was never the biggest FF7 fan or anything, but all these extra games/movies/etc. got me very interested and involved in the FF7 world. CC and AC were my main attractions. (Funny how they have AC, BC, CC, and DC... Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus... I wonder if it's on purpose or just a crazy coincidence.)

They are going to remake FF7 or at least port it at one point. Think about it, they've ported 1-6 and tactics, and remade a few along the way. its only a matter of time, but I think they are stalling in hopes of milking what they can now and build up demand. Not to mention it would probly be 2 UMD for the PSP, which might pose some difficulty.

Or just make it on the PS3?

Regardless, they're going to continue the story because if you've played DoC then you know that Genesis comes back.

FF7 would have to be PS3 only. Only system I could see it being remade on.

Re: Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

Just beat the game in english (already beat it in jp before, but watching it in english opened my eyes to some other stuff..)

    (some CC/DoC spoilers)

The soldiers that take genesis away and refer to him as their future "brother" are weiss and nero, who are the main villians in DoC... after the meteor incident in Midgar during ff7, many soldiers were trapped underneath the rabble and created a group called Deepground (which you get to fight in DoC..) Weiss becomes their leader, and Nero is his first commanding officer or w/e. At the end of DoC Nero (who is already defeated by Vincent) comes to his brother Weiss (who had just been defeated I believe) and tells him that they should go to "him"... then during the ending, they show Genesis' reawakening, with Nero "posessing" Genesis (has his voice and everything, as well as the blue glow in his eyes) and he then picks up Weiss's body and tells him that it is not yet time for slumber, gets that big ol' black wing of his out and flies away with Weiss's body.

The fact they put this in CC means that they DO plan on connecting everything together... I guess we can only hope they make a sequel to the series now.

Re: Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

every single professional review I've read of Crisis Core is giving it 7.5/8ish on a scale of 1-10.

every single profession review I've read of Crisis Core so far, is completely and 100% correct in these aspects.

Seriously, I'm sorry, but this game has two major, glaring flaws:

Normal Mode: Too easy, takes zero thought
Hard Mode: Too unforgiving, getting one-shotted by things I have access to early in the game does not classify as "fun", and enemies take way too long to kill

The game is simple. I felt like I was playing a slightly modified new-age Gauntlet game. It literally takes that tiny bit of thought.

afk playing WA:XF, 'cause while it might be FF7 but it's not good enough to even think about putting it above most SNES/PS1 rpgs... I had to think more playing fucking Magic Knight Rayearth than FF:CC, ugh

You missed the part about this game being a fanservice game more than anything... no one really expected a full-blown KH2-like battle system. It's a handheld title, and for a handheld title that gives a you a backstory for FF7 it did extremely well, both in terms of gameplay and of presentation. I thought the ending was just hands down amazing.

I won't argue the presentation bit--this is quite a beautiful game to behold on a handheld. Truly amazing.

Gameplay? Try to tell me any element of the gameplay that involves any semblance of strategy other than hitting Dodge or Guard at the right time and figuring out an attack pattern. It's like an overglorified Rockman game, and that's really the first time I've ever thought of it like that... heh, kinda makes sense.

Re: Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

lol, I won't argue it, i'm just saying it was never meant to be the greatest battle system on earth... I thought they mainly released the game to give the fans the background, maybe because they plan on releasing more FF7 games and needed fans to know how it all happened before they released the next game? I dunno. It's obvious that they put Nero/Weiss there for a reason, especially after making them the main bad dudes in DoC and had them use Genesis at the end. Here they show that they did indeed pick Genesis up even before FF7 started, which means that wherever they had taken him, they were still buried with him underground when the meteor hit, thus creating deepground with the other SOLDIERS that got buried under after the incident.

I'm not complaining too much about it because overall I did enjoy the game. The missions were fun, the story was very good, and like I said the ending was absolutely gorgeous and very well done.

Heh. I'm still of the opinion that they should have just left the FF7 world alone, and left everything to speculation, but that wouldn't make very much money now, would it?

    No, it wouldn't.

    DoC was a disaster, i'm glad they made Crisis Core though. I wish they would bring BC over somehow, I wanna play as the turks. ;;

Other than that, either remake FF7, make FF7-2, or stop cockteasing us with these games already.

The only problem with the game is that it's well, a portable game. I don't mean in that the PSP format is flawed, just that the game was designed to be simple and played in quick spurts. I wish PSP developers would realize that alot of the PSP audience doesn't want games like this (after, that's why we have suspend mode), and would focus more on just developing good games, and not games designed to played in 5-10 minute chunks.

The only thing I don't like about the game is the battle sys. Yes, I know, I know, has to be simplified for a portable sys. But fuking hell, I've always loathed the kingdom hearts-esque battle sys, get that gay ass bs out of here

Even KH feels more involved than this, because at least there's freedom of motion involved. It feels like Crisis Core, really, is a half-assed game as far as gameplay goes. At least KH's battles were fun.

KH2*. I hated KH1's battle system honestly heh. And even KH2 was insanely easy unless you actually went through the trouble of importing/downloading Final Mix and beating the organization.
