Forgetting AF Quests

I've read the NPC info at a few different places but I don't seem to be able to sort
out what's going to happen when I forget my PLD AF quests.

I just traded in my Gallant Leggings for my +1s and want to store all my other Gallant
gear, but I have to get my leggings back again.

That being said, it says you give the guy 10k and he lets you forget, but there's added
text there confusing me.

Unfortunatley I had to goto the other wiki to get some info, here's what it said:

Pay 10000g to Vingijard to repeat Artifact Armor quests.
Artifact Armor quests can not be repeated if any Artifact Armor quest is currently open.
This includes any coffer-bound Artifact Armor pieces that may not have been in your posession at any time.
Any coffer-bound pieces of armor still in your inventory after restarting Artifact Armor quests will be unavailble from the coffers if still in your inventory upon restarting the quests available at level 50; assuming you decided to throw out/upgrade said pieces after this point. It will register as if you already took that step

The underlined part is what confuses me.
I don't want to screw up my other jobs AF stuff should I need to do some of that.
It sounds to me like the coffers won't give me my Gallant items back if I already have
them in my inventory when I get the NPC to forget the quests.

Can I get some clarification on that?

I think whoever wrote that was just confused. AF is Rare/EX. Restarting AF only requires one piece of the set (to include weapon) to be gone. What's common to do when requesting AF is to toss pieces you still have right before you receive them again, whether from a quest reward or from opening the coffer.

The NPC resets the quests, it doesn't check to see exactly what pieces you still have.

I'm pretty sure the person who wrote that meant if you restart your AF2 (first AF armor) quest while still having some AF pieces on that job from coffers, then you will have to do another round of memory erasing to reobtain those pieces if you later decide to upgrade or drop them. I'm not sure whether he's right though--I haven't redone a coffer piece.

Okay so I'll only have to drop my sword so I can do that quest and get the reward
again. I'll grab all the Gallant Gear I have and talk to the NPC in Lower Jeuno to see if that makes a difference.

You ll be able to restart your AF quest that way.

You will not be able to finish your AF.
You have to go through all of the AFs including coffers and NMs.
If you possess one piece after restarting , then you will not be able to get that piece and continue your journey to get the other pieces that for instance 90% of the time require you to get Borghertz Hands before you can get the last one and finish that started AF quest.

Therefore need to drop all of the AF items when started that you still have in your possesion from the first time you did this.


Its logical , because you cannot possess 2 times the same r/ex items.
And this will stop you to become Paragon of <insertjobdescription> excellence.

And furthermore you will not be able to complete another AF quest , since the first one you have is still not finished.

You cannot select which of the items you would like to redo.
You have to do them all again.

All of your memories are erased concerning the restarted AF, even if you have AF pieces from the first time you did this,
and your AF set looks complete, the quest will not be considered as completed.
The according coffer will always try to hand you that piece again, but you cannot obtain , because you already posess it.

To further build on this, could he trade in to get his Gallant Leggings+1 , drop the Honor Sword, forget his AF Quests, request the Honor Sword, request his Gallant Leggings, drop his Honor Sword a second time, and forget the quests a second time?

Would this allow for him to say, pick a different jobs AF quests to start? He would be 5/5 AF with all the quests uncompleted (and therefore cleared), correct?

One thing to note, you can only redo your AF if you have all of the quests done. I am not sure if you are required to have the coffer pieces too before the guy will reset your memory, but I am certain that you have to have finished your AF's storyline to erase your memory.

So you would have to redo your entire AF a second time, to be able to get your leggings a third time. If you just want to get a second pair of leggings, then thats a lot easier. I am unsure where the leggings come from but if they come from a coffer then you need to drop every piece of AF that you receive from the quests that "unlock" your ability to get your coffer pieces in order to get them again. If they come from the initial quest after the sword, then you only need drop the sword and the leggings.
