just a guess, but I'm guessing each computer takes up a part of the data and sends it to a respective screen, with one computer more or less assigning the data jobs to each particular computer?

but it's fuckin awesome

it used to literally be like each computer ran the same version of the software and the joystick was slaved to all the pcs, meaning they would link up entirely. Nowadays its just a few computers linked together with wireless connections to make them sync correctly and one pc drives the others, making sure everything stays good. Either way its still super expensive and one of the enthusiast things only. We had one guy who used to get replacement parts from us since we carried an old Tyan Socket370/Slot1 motherboard and nobody else did (tyan 1854 I think). He ran his machine for years, did flying every day.

There are even mass role play groups that do airport setups, complete with air traffic controllers over voip and shit, their world is considerably more hardcore as far as gaming goes than ours, especially when they do assigned overseas flights to be role played with required chatter and possible issues, all done in real time.
